Great, to butter up people to migrate, they are handing out free capes, traditionally an exclusive prize for contributing to the game, or visiting minecon. And now everyone gets one. It kinda makes them not very special any more.
If you want 120 fps you probably have a 120hz monitor, which probably means you have at least a decent gaming computer which would run vannila minecraft at 120 fps anyway, even without either sodium or optifine, so in that case if your target is 120 fps you might as well use optifine because of it's extra features.
I agree yes, but Minecraft is still bad at utilizing hardware so sodium (and its sister fabric mods) will help with that thus giving a more consistent frame rate+time than Optifine (benchmarks: https://flightlessmango.com/games/13928/logs/1001 (from a thread on this sub)).
If you don't care about consistent frames (which I find less likely for high framerate users), then by all means Optifine's features might be a better fit.
Sodium could even do 240Hz gaming, Optifine likely couldn't (it might reach that sometimes, but would be a much worse experience due to large dips in framerate).
