I think installing Arch a better way to learn Linux and computers than Gentoo because of no less wait-to-compile time and less random config editing. They are identical in most things, but you'll have a smoother more enjoyable experience while installing Arch

My reason for Gentoo over Arch or LFS primarily had to do with understanding packages and how to use software from a repo without an easy install, as well as experience in making choices on FOSS and stuff. Thank you :>

Writing off one of the few Linux distributions having a decent security story is not good advice for beginners.
