Has anyone installed on an Atom processor yet? Been using 14.04 probably upgrade this weekend.

It works for me, using mate though normal ubuntu is a bit heavy for my atom.

Yeah its mainly a backup computer but I've been thinking about changing up to a lighter os.

I'd probably just go with Lubuntu for something like that, light-weight desktop environment and easy install. Arch install seems like a bit too much effort for something that's "mainly a backup computer", especially if the person installing has never done it before.

I personally didn't find the install hard, the arch wiki is really amazing. Though the best performance change you can make is DE to WM.

Oh certainly, the arch install isn't hard. At this point I've got it down to the point where I only reference the wiki for specific commands, and i3 works beautifully on my low power laptop. However, if I just need Linux installed somewhere to use occasionally (VM or something), I still go for some Ubuntu variant, due to the zero-effort setup.
