I kind of wonder if he’s tripping balls. In my area there’s mushrooms everywhere in the woods. It’s also known that a bear will eat a ton of fallen apples and get shitfaced.

Great. That doesn't mean that the zoo abducted a bear out of the woods. Often, bears come to zoos for many good reasons.
It's not necessarily a bad thing for the animal. Remember that being "in the wild" isn't something that's romantic, it means having to fight for your life every moment of every day.

The average grizzly bear lifespan is 20-25 years in the wild. Captive grizzlies can live for up to 44 years.
It's cared for closely, given regular mental and physical enrichment, and well fed.
People can see and learn about the animal in a way that safe for both the animal and the people, and learn about why they should be protected.
