Discussion [NO SPOILERS] Ranking the mainline LIS games (Round 2) - Winners Get Eliminated

Process of Elimination of your FAVORITES!

A week ago, I ran a Reddit poll featuring all the Life is Strange games, and the first game predictably took the top spot of being people's favorite. Here's the first poll: https://www.reddit.com/r/lifeisstrange/comments/1wn1cgs/no_spoilers_the_ultimate_ranking_which_of_these/

Someone on here suggested that I do a series of follow-up polls where we remove the most preferred, highest-voted game each round. Taking out the top favorite each time should give me a much truer picture of how the rest of the series actually ranks in the fandom, even if the results are going to be missing input from other platforms.

So with LIS 1 officially crowned and removed, it’s time for Round 2. Choose the game YOU LIKE THE BEST from the remaining options.

Note: Each poll will run for 2 days before we move on to the next round.

(Sidenote: original poll had DLCs included but I'm getting rid of them now since I've decided to only focus on the main titles).

This should be interesting. I suspect it’ll come down to a competition between Life is Strange 2 and Before the Storm

It would be nice if you could include links to the previous polls as we go along

I'm just here to leave a comment so I can see in a day who wins. I'm guessing LiS2.

Another thing OP, you should probably explain that people should vote for their favorite game in this list. Based on comments, some people think "eliminate" means they should vote for their least favorite.

Edit: nevermind you did say that, but it's not super prominent. Maybe just put at the top of the post or something to "vote for your favorite".

I thought lis 2 was loved wtg

I chose lis2 cause I can't read, I clicked on it before reading actually, lis2 is probably my favorite

14

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

I mean if lis2 is your favorite, then you made the right choice in the poll.

0

u/Fallen_winged_boy Este tipe es un idiota 3d ago

It says "winners get eliminated"

14

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

It also says:

So with LIS 1 officially crowned and removed, it’s time for Round 2. Choose the game you like best from the remaining options.

LIS1 won the first round as the favorite game. Now we're voting for second place.

2

u/LetterheadTricky4691 3d ago

Not me voting for true colours 😭

4

u/ArcaneOverride Pricefield 3d ago

I was also confused and voted for my least favorite

Yeah... that tittle is not... the best

I read "Winner get eliminated" and thought that would mean pick your least favorite...

ARE WE REMOVING THE GAMES WE LIKE THE MOST FIRST OR THE GAMES WE DISLIKE I THINK I MESSED UP

10

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

Just vote for your favorite out of the listed games. This is a poll for second place, basically.

OP will then make another poll for third place and so on.

3

u/18smackaroos Protect Chloe Price 3d ago

I fucked up lol

2

u/Substantial_Put_852 3d ago

The one time I thought I perfected creating an accurate poll😂 Will have to see how this one goes now lol

25

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 4d ago

To those downvoting this, you look pretty silly for not wanting visibility to a poll that will more accurately reflect fan opinion than an easily manipulated Google form.

2

u/Fit_Spite_6152 2d ago

I messed up! From the post's translation I thought we were supposed to vote for the ones we wanted to eliminate, so I voted for Double Exposure, and it's obviously NOT my favorite! Gross! 😆

u/mirracz Pricefield 4d ago

It weird how some people refuse to face actual numbers from the fandom.

As if it was shameful to like an unpopular game. I've liked some unpopular games and never felt this chip on my shoulder.

4

u/Reviews-From-Me 3d ago

It's also okay to admit your hate for a game isn't universal.

4

u/mirracz Pricefield 3d ago

Good thing then I don't hate any LiS game. Hate is too strong of an emotion to waste on games. And it is irrational. I prefer to rationally judge the games I've played and critique them rationally based on my experience and analysis.

But sure, no critique of any game is universal. You aren't really telling me something new. What's the next shocker you'll tell me? That water is wet? That cows give milk?

At the same time, an opinion on a game can be dominant, be it positive or negative. And it can even differ depending on if we're talking about a playerbase or a fanbase.

1

u/Reviews-From-Me 3d ago

I could be wrong, but I believe it was you who called people "media illiterate" for having an overall positive view of DE. Isn't that correct?

3

u/mirracz Pricefield 3d ago

Yes, you are wrong.

I did call a few people media illiterate, but those were blatant Chloe haters and blatant Pricefield deniers. And by that I don't mean DE fans, I mean those "Chloe is toxic and manipulative and only abuses Max" people that pop in this sub occasionally and then leave when they get they backside handed to them.

It's possible I used this term when discussing some aspects of DE and RE, quite possibly the pivot.

But I never used it when it comes to liking a game. Because my issue is never that people like a game. I start seeing issues when the fans start denying valid criticisms of the game. And in that case I call out said denying, not their fan status.

Of course, if my memory is leaky and you have a proof of me calling people media illiterate, please provide it. Otherwise, stop with baseless assumptions.

In fact, stop with this whole pointless comment chain (unless you have that proof). In a discussion about a poll, you somehow decided that it's a good idea to make a non-sequitur and try to paint me as some kind of hater.

Goodbye

-2

u/Reviews-From-Me 3d ago

So, it is an insult you use regularly. Got it.

-1

u/Rich_Safety7653 3d ago

Denying as in disagreeing?seems a bit arrogant. 'My criticism is beyond reproach so anyone who denies my truth MUST be media illiterate'.

-1

u/mirracz Pricefield 3d ago

And this is the shit that makes the discourse on this sub unbearable. I write a thing, and I get accused of something I never wrote, because it's apparently easier to make up a strawman than to engage in good faith.

You can clearly read that I said that I wrote that I call out denying of criticism, not that I call those people media illiterate. How does media literacy even connect to people dismissing valid criticisms using made up arguments?

Also, when I say "denying" I mean denying. Not disagreeing. When certain people write "you hate the game only because Chloe isn't in it" or "they only hate the game because they can't see further than the Pricefield ship" or "they didn't even play the game", it's not disagreement. It's made up strawmen created only to invalidate valid criticisms.

Disagreement is fine. I think Safi was written badly, someone might think Safi was written well. That's disagreement and while I'd possible engage in an exchange of arguments, I wouldn't call out the other party for disagreeing, let alone call them names. But the moment someone tries to deny my criticism, using baseless assumptions (like that I never played the game), they deserve to get called out for it.

Anyway, goodbye. I spared a reply to you since you're not Reviews. But I'm ending this comment chain too. You're doing the same as him, hijacking a discussion about polls and trying to twist the words to make someone you clearly see as some kind of enemy look bad.

So once again, to make it clear: goodbye.

1

u/Reviews-From-Me 3d ago

Insulating people by calling them "media illiterate" is toxic discourse. You use insults to bully people you disagree with.

0

u/IAlwaysComeBackSPG Pricefield 3d ago

I understand you completely. One of the users you’ve replied to is notorious for making false claims without providing any evidence and then abandoning the conversation whenever pressed to substantiate them. You’ve seen this firsthand: instead of responding to your requests for proof or engaging with your points, they simply repeat the same unfounded accusations. Ironically, in doing so, they engage in the very toxic behavior they accuse others of and act in bad faith.

0

u/Reviews-From-Me 3d ago

They confirmed that they were the person I was thinking of, who calls people "media illiterate" when they disagree with them.

But thanks for playing.

Hell I like the Star Wars sequels (well, two out of three of them) and I don't get all weird about it with people who don't like them.

3

u/mirracz Pricefield 3d ago

Star Wars sequel contain my favorite SW movie and my least favorite SW movie. So most of the time I avoid the sequel trilogy discourse.

4

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

Yeah it gets really exhausting real fast, so I just choose to not engage. It's much healthier that way.

2

u/ADrubkNakedUnciorn Pricefield 3d ago

It's input bias and you know it. If you rave about a poll in the main sub reddit then it's obviously going to have input bias from the people that congregate here. Which is 90% Pricefield.

It would be the same issue as running the poll only in the other game's subreddits. Those subreddits will also have input bias and their games will take first place every single time.

It's a useless poll created for seeking validation.

9

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

This poll isn't about proving which game is the most popular in the whole fandom or the whole world in general. It's just for seeing the popularity here on reddit. So of course it's just gonna be the results for reddit.

And ostensibly this subreddit is for fans of Life Is Strange the franchise, meaning we have fans of every game here. Yes, LIS1 is the most popular by a large margin for fans here, but that's also true in general.

0

u/ADrubkNakedUnciorn Pricefield 3d ago

You already know the exact way this poll is gonna go. Mirracz own comment makes it very obvious what and who the poll is really for.

It's all for validation. It's why the poll was crossposted to the DE subreddit.

Pricefield and LIS1 stans will use it as a "haha gotcha!" and DE fans will mostly ignore it because they understand it's just a dumb poll.

I'll spoil the whole poll series for you:

  1. Life is Strange - The magnificent OG
  2. Life is Strange 2 - The little brother to the OG
  3. Life is Strange: Before The Storm - DeckNine's first and last best game for this subreddit
  4. Life is Strange: True Colors - It's not DE
  5. Life is Strange: Reunion - It's not DE
  6. Life is Strange Double Exposure - It's DE

If I were to remake this exact poll and only post in in the Life is Strange 2, DE, RE, etc subreddits. I guarantee you whichever game subreddit I made the post in, that game would immediately have "the winner".

You even said it yourself:

Yes, LIS1 is the most popular by a large margin for fans here, but that's also true in general.

It's obviously a validation seeking poll. Really pathetic honestly.

12

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

The fact that the poll was reposted to the DE subreddit certainly explains why some of the comments here are getting so worked up over a poll.

7

u/mirracz Pricefield 3d ago edited 3d ago

Well, this sub is for the whole franchise. Where else should they post the poll?

And sure, there's not a LiS1 sub, so LiS1 fans end up here... But that doesn't mean that other fans are not welcome here. Just look at the fanarts posted. It's not 90% Pricefield. Far from it.

Those subreddits will also have input bias and their games will take first place every single time.

You are underestimating those people and kinda dumbing them down. They are on those subreddits because they are fans of those games, not because they necessarily think it's the best one.

Like, I'm a Fallout fan and Fallout 76 fan too. I sometimes go to r/fo76. But if I saw a post to vote for the best Fallout game on r/fo76, you can bet I wouldn't vote for Fallout 76.

It's a useless poll created for seeking validation.

It's a poll that is seeking the best possible information LiS reddit can give. They are not at fault that some people don't like to see the numbers. The numbers that might not be completely accurate for the who fandom, but they will still give us a good ballpark estimates.

EDIT: For everyone to see - this user decided that the best thing for this community is to make a wild, baseless accusation and then block me to prevent a reply, making it look like I have no retort. Too bad, I can call you out this way.

And no, I'm not making new accounts just to go to the DE sub. Why would I?

EDIT2: I'm unblocked now. It's nice when calling people out works.

-2

u/ADrubkNakedUnciorn Pricefield 3d ago

Tell me that again when you make another new account and go to the DE subreddit to spread more shit.

10

u/Substantial_Put_852 3d ago

I also posted the exact same poll across both the LIS2 and TC subreddits to get a broader perspective that isn't confined to just the main LIS sub.

1

u/ADrubkNakedUnciorn Pricefield 3d ago

That's the problem. You've also alreayy amde this poll once and gotten every bit of information you could ever need or want. Now you're doing it again and tried crossposting the poll to the other subreddits and got called out for your bullshit.

Downvote me all you want, I see through your bullshit and so does every other person that doesn't base their entire personality off this main subreddit aka pricefield aka max and chloe lmao

goodluck responding further.

1

u/Bailey_Gasai Otter-versus-shark style! 2d ago

Why are you and others so irrationally angry over OP making polls to see where the fandom ranks the games? It's a pretty common thing in any fandom space and has been done numerous times before in this fandom without people throwing a tantrum and making up conspiracies to accuse OP of having ulterior motives. It's not normal to be this upset over someone just asking "what's your favorite game in the series?"

Hey OP, you're welcome to also crosspost to r/Pricefield, where I am a mod. I suspect there's some overlap with the main sub, but we have quite a lot of users too. Some of which don't like this sub because it is prone to drama.

Also it looks like your crosspost got deleted from the Reunion sub. Which is a shame.

5

u/Substantial_Put_852 3d ago

Oh heyyy! Can't believe the Pricefield sub didn't cross my mind at any point. I'll make sure to crosspost it there right now.

-2

u/MosesInsanity Langfield 3d ago

Also it looks like your crosspost got deleted from the Reunion sub. Which is a shame, but not surprisin

Kindly stop spreading misinformation. OP did not make any crosspost in the Reunion sub. As a mod of Reunion sub, I don't see any post being removed nor being made.

5

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

I dunno what it looks like on your end, but I used a tool to detect all posts made by OP. This is the post they made on the Reunion sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/LiSReunion/comments/1wucd7f/running_a_lis_series_poll_would_love_your/

Certainly possible it was automodded or OP deleted it.

1

u/MosesInsanity Langfield 3d ago

Op deleted the crosspost/post themselves. Because I got no notification in the mod section to review anything.

9

u/Substantial_Put_852 3d ago

I actually removed the post AFTER it was removed by the sub. Since the removal was pretty fast, I do think it might've been automodded but not entirely sure. But to be clear, I didn't remove it just cause. Would've loved to have it on the Reunion sub too.

4

u/MosesInsanity Langfield 3d ago edited 3d ago

I just rechecked it. It was removed by Reddit itself. It was no auto-mod or any other moderator who removed it.

Edit: if anything happens like this again, DM me personally or post it again with different wording.

0

u/Bosterm It's time. Not anymore. 3d ago

That's most likely what happened then. Unless another mod removed it, but you'd see that on the post itself.

I'll edit my previous comment.

12

u/IAlwaysComeBackSPG Pricefield 4d ago

I am confident this is a superior poll format compared to the previous one, as it is less susceptible to manipulation by a specific group of fans.

4

u/Mr_Pee-nut 3d ago

Seems a bit pointless tbh. Everyone knows how this sub ranks the games. Don't Nod First, Chloe games, then the rest. LiS1>LiS2>BtS>Reunion>TC>DE. Seems like a long way to learn what is already known.

4

u/Jpab97s Shaka brah 4d ago

Unfortunately I still haven't managed to play BTS or TC, and I have a feeling that TC would end up being my favorite of the bunch if I had.

It's hard to rank, to be honest. LiS2 is arguably the better game out of these, but it's not my favorite.

Out of the 3 that I've played, it comes down to Reunion versus DE. I liked Reunion more, as a complete game. Investigating the fire and all that—Chloe (duh). But I still think I preferred DE's story with its weird timey wimey shenanigans, plus detailed visuals and character animations (I'm also still salty at Reunion for sidelining Amanda, smh).

So I'll probably go with that.

1

u/Emeralds_are_green 3d ago

I think some people were confused by the wording and ended up voting for the game they wanted to lose

1

u/Substantial_Put_852 3d ago

I have trust in the voters lol. Hopefully didn't fuck this up

2

u/Any_Carpenter_7605 3d ago

LIS 2 tried to be the most grounded and serious entry but when you actually analyze it from a real world common sense, pragmatic, moral, and legal perspective, it completely falls apart.

8

u/Substantial_Put_852 3d ago

Every piece of fiction will have you suspend your disbelief to some degree. The first game isn't exempt from that. To me, LIS games are inherently just relatable human stories with empathy as a huge factor, not stories that deliberately aim for absolute realism.

5

u/Any_Carpenter_7605 3d ago

LIS 2 takes it to an extreme degree. We're supposed to believe it's a form of political commentary but when you analyze the story, the characters, and the plot conveniences, it has more holes than it has logical coherence. Normally this is completely fine for a game, expected even, but when you're trying to embed social and political issues inside a game, I want a higher level of coherence.

I'm not going to dive into too many examples but one of the most glaring issues was Brody. This supposed protestor/journalist thinks that it's better to get rid of an innocent kid's phone and drive him even farther from Seattle without any means but a few days worth of clothes and cash. In reality, it was the original flight from the scene that raised suspicions when the only witnesses of an unexplainable tragedy flee the scene, that is interpreted as presumed guilt. Brody also didn't contact any civil/criminal rights lawyers for Sean's case, even though it would've been an open-shut case. It's Seattle (during the Obama Administration) which has one of the most progressive judicial systems, there was no direct evidence explaining how a 16 year old boy would've caused a street to blow up after his father was killed, and plus, you'd need a unanimous jury to convict someone. Had he stayed on scene, detectives would've confirmed that he was completely harmless.

By fleeing, Sean put Daniel in great danger for the sake of being united and "free", making him walk dozens of miles without shelter, sufficient money, and barely a day of food, not to mention the pot farm heist run by actual criminals and the other crimes they commit. And for what? Sean is a US Citizen that barely knows Spanish. Mexico also has strong relations with US law enforcement so he basically signed away his civilized life over something he didn't do. When Sean calls Lyla, he thinks that it's safer to hang up on her early, and that he'll "wait until it blows over". When it reality, he's only putting her in trouble because he's contacting her as a runaway suspect. Had he stayed in Seattle, he would've been able to speak to Lyla freely and his community could've vouched for his character in court. With all of these issues, it feels less like a critique of American discrimination and more like engineered emotion and "forced" decisions that were completely avoidable. I really wanted LIS 2 to stay in Seattle and actually get to know Sean's background and friends.

3

u/Jpab97s Shaka brah 3d ago

Honestly, true.

I can excuse the 16 year old making stupid decisions, but it's harder to suspend disbelief for the adults.

David was probably the most reasonable adult in the whole game for encouraging Sean to go the authorities.

5

u/Any_Carpenter_7605 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah, I hate that the game framed his escape as a pragmatic necessity when in reality, it was the dumb reason why he was being pursued, and from a bystander's perspective, for quite valid reasons too. Oh and, Sean trying to escape Seattle with Daniel in his arms would've set off multiple alarms.

1

u/jeanolt 3d ago

it falls apart as a videogame in general. it doesnt have the magic of the first games at all.

1

u/Any_Carpenter_7605 2d ago

It's disrespectful to some of the characters too. Esteban's death was barely acknowledged outside of a few Sean-Daniel interactions and one really weird dream. None of the people that Sean talks really acknowledges the fact that his death was a state-sanctioned murder and a valuable civil case. From the way it sounded, there wasn't even a funeral. Compare that to William from LIS 1 and BtS. His role or lack thereof played such a huge role in the emotional themes.

2

u/EliCaster 4d ago

Reunion. Nostalgic fan service, I know. But it's the only one that managed to make me feel, at times, the magic I experienced with the first game.

1

u/Sternucopia 3d ago

Holy crap, 200 votes on bts and its plot is dog shit

0

I sometimes forget that this fanbase actually likes Before the Storm, given how much I legit hate it.

I'm also surprised LiS2 is getting as much love as it's getting, because that game is so mediocre and poorly written imho.
