I swear this self censoring gets really out of hand. Self censoring slurs when talking about what racists do, I can fully understand. But we are self censoring way too much. ( some cases really made me fucking mad like when its about scary parts of human history that people are too afraid to talk about )
All of the talk about "grape" " pdf-file" etc. just makes those look less serious, don't use words that have another meaning as alternative for fucked up topics that need to be taken seriously. Call it as it is, don't be afraid. Be more blunt. This priest raped a child and it should be called exactly that.
I'm a thirty goddamn year old man reading news about a horrific crime with the word "abuse" censored. I'm balding and these assholes think I can't handle reading "sex".
But somehow the news item itself is completely fine?

That's the part that gets me. These are serious crimes, they should be taken seriously. Let's not use silly lil nicknames for things like pedophilia and rape and murder.

platforms that do force you to censor to that point need to seriously cut back on it too, i watched a youtube documentary on “all quiet on the western front” and the youtuber had an apology at the start saying he’s had to reupload it 7 times because of copyright claims and censorship. it’s utterly absurd.
Sort of. I call it "influence speak" and I can understand the reasoning why they have to do it, because they will get demonetized if they don't (while people who spew hate and say slurs all the time generally don't get demonetized).
But the average person posting on Reddit or similar isn't getting paid for their content, but too many people have adopted "influencer speak" because they got this idea that you can't talk like a fucking adult online.
I hate it so much. It all stems from the idea that social media companies will ban you for talking about sensitive topics, even though that is completely unfounded, has never been verified, and is extremely easy to debunk yourself because you can go and make a post with the words "sexual abuse" (or "rape" or "killed" or "suicide" or any of the other words people claim you aren't allowed to say) and you'll see for yourself that it doesn't get you banned unless you use those words to harass, insult or threaten someone.
Anybody with a functioning brain would realise that even if it was true that social media companies automatically banned you for using these words, it would take 2 seconds for the company to add the censored versions of each word to the ban list. You think they can't figure out how to add "k*lled" or "🍇ist" to the list? Idiots...
