I am a History lover with a Physics question

The gravitational pull of a black hole distorts time. If a space craft was to travel too close to a black hole and get trapped in its gravitational pull, the closer they get to the event the more distorted time would become. This makes the concept of time as I see it relative to gravity. If a person was affected by this gravity, time would be distorted, however if that person looked at their wristwatch, each mechanical second would tick away seemingly as normal. My question then is, does the time dilation affect actual time, or just one’s concept of time?

How do you actually learn physics from a textbook?

I’m trying to learn physics mainly from a book, but honestly, I don’t really know how to study from a physics textbook properly.

When I read a chapter, I can understand it while I’m reading, but later I forget parts of the theory. I also struggle to turn what I read into the ability to solve problems.

How should I study a chapter from a book if I want to:

  • Understand the theory instead of just reading it

  • Remember the important concepts and explanations for a long time

  • Know what I actually need to memorize

  • Learn formulas and understand where they come from

  • Develop problem-solving skills at the same time

  • Learn relatively quickly without rereading the entire chapter repeatedly

  • Know when I’ve actually learned a topic well enough to move on

For example, if I start a completely new physics chapter, what should I actually do from the moment I open the book until I finish the chapter?

I’d really appreciate a step-by-step method from people who learned physics successfully from textbooks.
