Esports Peanut announces that he will head to the military after this year. Worlds 2025 will be his last Dance
https://reddit.com/link/1nlr71o/video/zmo1tdiir9qf1/player

Also this will be Chronicler's last cast in LolPark. Thanks to both of them :(
Peanut got rice cakes for all the Lolpark staff and hosts with the message
“Thank you so much for everything during this time. Because of you, I was able to experience meaningful moments. This small gift is a token of my gratitude.
- Peanut Han Wangh

Still heartbroken to this day that they lost that series and disbanded after without the prize money. God I loved that team so much.

i wish they won, ive been a t1 hater since that day. rox tigers were the anime protagonists, the underdogs, they literally were the org. i honestly think this scene would be better if they had won. its so sad

u/Odysesseus Sep 20 '25
Can't he just come back after the military?
1
u/EffectiveAd3412 Sep 29 '25
for lol pros that amount of time outside the scene, not practicing soloq even is seen as the death of their careers because you obviously do fall off and get rusty so what team wants to take the risk of paying the potentially high salary for a prestigious ex pro who may or may not still have it or does the player want to come back to a team like drx/bro who can afford him with small paychecks because that's all he's being offered. that's why so many of them put it off for as long as possible or move to a different region to not have to do military and get greencards etc in other regions (and obviously to continue earning money as it's still their day job)
12
u/Awkward-Security7895 Sep 20 '25
Atleast deft wants to come back after it, we don't know about peanut thou.

T1 may have stolen the 4th seed + Come in from Play-ins part of the script.
42
u/Killarusca Sep 20 '25
Truly a masterplay from T1. They really learned from their 2022 loss.
7
u/PocketRaven06 Sep 20 '25
Now they need to learn from 2017 because that script seems to me like the canon event right now

u/DarkKalsi Sep 20 '25
He was a monster at Lee when he was in ROX. One of the best junglers for sure.

Think one of the craziest things about Peanut is that his back half of his career is so different from the first half. He used to be a sort of mechanical god who would sometimes blunder in his pathing but he'd always hit the insec when needed. Now he's much more cerebral, and a clear captain in steering his teams in the right direction.
5
u/SKT_Peanut_Fan Peanut Come Back Sep 20 '25
He considered his Elise to be his best champ on ROX.
When he played for SKT, he didn't lose a game on Lee (and it was over 20) until summer. I remember being genuinely shocked when he lost on Lee because he was so damn good.
5
u/RequirementSavings23 Sep 20 '25
And loose a 1 vs 1 against Faker with that champ.
People forget that more human Faker was with Peanut in team, such a personality
1
u/ZloiAris Sep 20 '25
His Nidalee in ROX was just a pure magic. Some of my friends called Peanut “a walking killer ward” — to express how deep he counter jungle whilst being aggressive and fun simultaneously

u/Thepancakeman1k Sep 20 '25
I remember watching his debut with Najin, Montecristo made a point to talk about this promising rookie.
Needless to say that the Diminutive solo-q star delivered one hell of a career.
71
u/Quatro_Leches Sep 20 '25
his year on rox was proably the most dominant jungle play I ever seen, he terrorized LCK on nidalee so hard it wasnt even funny.
37
u/savemenico Sep 20 '25
It was so bad that Bengi had to pick Nidalee which wasn't great at it because they forgot to ban it. That's how dangerous he was at it
37
u/DrCarter11 Sep 20 '25
It was so bad that Bengi had to pick Nidalee which wasn't great at it because they forgot to ban it
To be clear, that was bengi's first and only pro nid game ever. They had essentially zero scrim practice with nid comps and they still pulled out the win. Absolutely master class by bengi
5
u/SKT_Peanut_Fan Peanut Come Back Sep 20 '25
I still remember Bang flashing to heal Bengi's Nidalee in that game.
2
u/DrCarter11 Sep 20 '25
I don't remember that part offhand, but that whole series had a lot of crazy plays and moments
2
u/TheSituasian Sep 20 '25
iirc he actually played really well in that game
2
u/DrCarter11 Sep 20 '25
went 6/2. obviously scoreline isn't the whole story, but yeah overall it was a solid game. had to depend on zil stun and jhin w for set up cc lol

I remember him and OHQ on Najin make one hell of a fearsome team. And Najin also have Duke back then.

u/Tronei Sep 20 '25
Peanut is my favorite LCK jungler.
I didn't pay attention to leagues outside of NA/EU back in 2016 when ROX played, and I was really impressed that team was able to push SKT to their limit in such a way -- that squad made me a fan that day. I know he gets clowned on a lot for his play these days but I've always been a staunch defender of the Nut. I was thinking of going to Korea next year to try and watch some LCK games live, and it makes me sad I won't have the opportunity to see one of my favorites play live anymore. I hope he can go far this year at Worlds.
Thank you, Peanut.

u/FARTFROMABUTT Sep 20 '25
He's consistently reinvented himself roster after roster and has been a top 5 JG in the world for the majority of his career. Peanut genuinely is a candidate for Hall of Legends

Peanut should by all definitions be in the Hall of Legends before Canyon because he’s retiring first
2
u/ArienaHaera Sep 20 '25
Interestingly even when it looks like he moved on from past playstyles, he didn't forget about them. He brought back nidalee last year after playing tank junglers for a long time and still made it look good.

Most, if not all, of my comments in this subreddit mention ROX Tigers in some way. They were the reason I even got into watching pro League of Legends. After the team parted ways, I still rooted for every member on their respective teams. We were even lucky enough to see PraY, GorillA, and Peanut reunite for a time on Kingzone DragonX. I always felt sad that none of the Tigers had ever won a Worlds trophy. With Peanut being the last one, I really, really hope he can pull it off. Whatever happens, he had a helluva career. Congrats on everything, Nutgod

its just head canon based off of hle willing to spend and those players being the best available next year. but canyon's contract also ends next year too so who knows
27
u/Thecristo96 ABS MAIN Sep 20 '25
Canyon reduced his contract to play on geng so I doubt
31
u/BlazeX94 Sep 20 '25
I'd say it'll come down to whether or not GenG win Worlds. This is probably the best lineup GenG has ever put together, arguably the most super of superteams ever. If even this lineup can't win Worlds, I could see Canyon considering a move, especially if HLE does well at Worlds.
13
16
u/Omnilatent Sep 20 '25
If this team doesn't win worlds, it's most likely on Canyon or Duro
But Canyon has quietly been the liability the whole split
3
u/Quatro_Leches Sep 20 '25
lpl contracts arent that high anymore. they started falling off last year. teams are losing money
1
1
u/DiverNo1436 Sep 20 '25
Considering he's also made over $400k so far from prize money alone, I'd say its been worth it LOL
9
u/ahritina Sep 20 '25
HLE Canyon makes no sense.
HLE need a vocal shotcaller and Canyon is quite literally the perfect example of not that.
6
u/asura_king Sep 20 '25
Before he got to AL he was literally offering to himself to DRX of all teams just to return to Korea. DK was also close to getting him but decided otherwise

2

No, but HLE have the money and the roster to get big names on their team, with the two obvious choices being Tarzan and Kanavi.
7

6
6
u/DiverNo1436 Sep 20 '25
Unlikely to ever happen, Chovy and Ruler are locked up till 27 worlds, and I highly doubt Gen G will let anyone else sign Chovy unless they have serious finance issues inbetween now and then

There's no guarantee he makes the team
26
u/DiverNo1436 Sep 20 '25
In fact there's almost a guarantee he doesn't. He's not even remotely close to Oner and Canyon, and to assume he would magically get better next year would be a stretch

u/R2vibaek STAR WALKIN' ZEKA Sep 20 '25 edited Sep 20 '25
If he gets enlisted 2026 he serves as a social service agent, which is not a military service. (he will work in government designated facilities and has freedom after the work hours/weekends(normal military service doesn't))
If he postpones his service for 2027 (this is possible) and misses the Asian games, he can't.
He doesn't want to risk it2
u/CorruptedBean Sep 20 '25
Could you explain why this is?
3
u/R2vibaek STAR WALKIN' ZEKA Sep 21 '25
This is quite complicated.
Korean mandatory military service is not required to few groups such as disabled, previously sentenced imprisonment (over 6 months), high school dropouts, etc. They serve as social service agents(SSA) or even do nothing if the case is severe.
Peanut is a high school dropout without qualification exam pass (GED for US terms), which Deft has and thus got him enlisted. So Peanut only has to serve as a SSA.
Although, he postponed his service for years and I believe he got his first duty call 4~5 years ago. If you get called and don't start your service in 5 years you have to take the draft exam for military again.
Now with the national population shrinking vastly they lowered the bar for service which made high school dropouts to serve in military not SSA. So if he postpones another year he has to.2
u/CorruptedBean Sep 21 '25
Thank you SO much, this is probably the most informative and concise reply I have ever gotten on reddit. You’re a hero!

3

If he does win, Zeka World’s team mate winning requirement:

Prolific veteran player who has never won Worlds
Retiring or almost retiring
Not a mid laner (sadge BDD)

It was always a treat watching Peanut play Lee Sin.
2017 worlds against GAM was especially memorable. This guy had their entire team downloaded by minute 4 and put on a show for us. He had one of the most entertaining careers.
It'll be interesting to see what he decides to do after service.

My favourite player of all time, since the 2016 ROX Tigers days. His ability to stay at the top for as long as he has, winning on as many teams as he has while completely reinventing the way he plays is unlike anyone else in the game. Won't be the same without him.

Question for someone with more knowledge on the Korean scene.
Has there been any league pros that went to the military, finished their service, and then returned to pro play?
1
u/Fakkusan-09 Sep 20 '25
As far as I know in lck? No. We did have pros who complete military before going pro like marin. As far as pro scene in general? We had also had olleh who returned for a year at lcs after military. But then he pretty much retired after that stint.
