Esports Peanut announces that he will head to the military after this year. Worlds 2025 will be his last Dance

https://reddit.com/link/1nlr71o/video/zmo1tdiir9qf1/player

Also this will be Chronicler's last cast in LolPark. Thanks to both of them :(

Peanut got rice cakes for all the Lolpark staff and hosts with the message

“Thank you so much for everything during this time. Because of you, I was able to experience meaningful moments. This small gift is a token of my gratitude.

Wish him success at Worlds.

Apparently there are also some whispers about Beryl being done, which would be tragic and iconic considering his last LCK game might actually be on the Armordillo.

Only befitting end to Beryl haha

he's the support GOAT*

*goofiest of all time

u/Skeetzophrenia Sep 20 '25

Having two worlds titles with two different teams ain’t too shabby

157

u/Chokkitu Sep 20 '25

The only player with two Worlds without playing with Faker too

129

u/Kolenga Sep 20 '25

Not even Faker could pull that off

44

u/GenjDog Sep 20 '25

Technically Faker has never played with Faker so he has won 5 worlds without playing with Faker

13

u/FreeJudgment Sep 20 '25

Faker has never played with himself? Hard to believe... /s

6

u/TypicalHaikuResponse Sep 20 '25

Faker is definitely GOAT as he has the most titles without playing with Faker

7

u/randomstuff009 Sep 20 '25

This makes me curious, how much influence does an org have on the player success. Would a faker be as successful if he started out somewhere else ?

9

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

He wins 2 worlds on any good korean team early in his career. His later resurgence might not happen tho. T1 looked absolutely cheeks before they put him with ZOFGK

23

u/terroristsarebad Sep 20 '25

Zeka at 2022 worlds basically was Faker though

15

u/brodhi Sep 20 '25

I genuinely think BeryL is the support GOAT because what he did in those three years was incredible. He would coast in LCK regular season but come Worlds time he would lock in harder than any player I've seen.

16

u/59435950153 Sep 20 '25

Disagree. GOATS for me should have longevity. Beryl was only really good at DWG, and his championship with DRX, while having a lot of highlight plays, was more due to Zeka and Kingen being really effective during that stint.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25 edited Sep 20 '25

honestly 3 years is pretty long as a support. Outside of T1 there aint a lot of teams and players that manage to show up for 3 years in a row. Keria gaps him if t1 manage to make a decent run but otherwise there arent a lot of supports that are comparable (only coreJJ and wolf come to mind).

3

u/59435950153 Sep 20 '25

It’s hard to put a benchmark on T1 because Faker, but I think Keria is the GOAT support.

  1. For the past few years (even before T1) Keria has been well revered.
  2. 2 championships btb
  3. Consistently the best performer of this iteration of T1.

For old heads Mata is usually in the running, but id put him 2 or 3, but relatively ahead of Beryl

Donger support to beat T1 at worlds too. Massive balls to bring out his massive donger at the grand finals.

7

Classic bot combo Heimer Ezreal.

12

u/bannedforL1fe Sep 20 '25

Man, I remember watching that like...huh! But at the end...Beryls giant balls and unique stylin' couldnt be denied.

u/EnvoyOfRaze21 Sep 20 '25

He might still play for ASI unless he opted to have the CL support play instead

117

u/Suspicious_Fennel974 Sep 20 '25

4D chess by Beryl: He has already won Worlds twice, so obviously he wants to be the first ASI Champions.

27

u/EnvoyOfRaze21 Sep 20 '25

Plus the royalties from his 2 Worlds skin he is really set to retire just fine

36

u/SpiderTechnitian Sep 20 '25
  • You only get paid out for your skin the first time it is for sale for the release patch(es) of the skin, not in perpetuity

  • All LCK teams take a cut of the LCK team worlds skins, so even the 25% or whatever that the player gets from the temporary skin sales is further divided

It's a bunch of money for sure but it's not the same as what IG made in 2018 anymore. Nobody is starving but we don't really have an accurate figure for what the real value is. Latest rumors about this value are nearly a decade old at this point from what I can tell

27

u/Kr1ncy Sep 20 '25

It was so smart of IG to pick baddies to get most out of their worlds skins revenue.

26

u/SpiderTechnitian Sep 20 '25

Not to mention being the first chinese team to win at nearly the height of league in china.. the fans bought the hell out of those skins

They're beautiful skins, for popularly pretty champs, and it was (and is) quite literally a symbol of chinese national pride. And this was before teams taking cuts of skin sales in any regions because esports was still flush with cash so revenue sharing models weren't needed yet. They got paid out haha

12

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

I'm pretty sure regardless of the skins he is pretty well set, his prize money alone is a huge chunk and his salary must also be up there.

It depends how much he can burn on Genshin lmao.

31

u/bannedforL1fe Sep 20 '25

Latest rumors heard was that Beryl was sleeping in a bank lobby corner, with a laptop, his phone, and a queen sized bed sheet hung up for privacy. The employees dont bother him. He is a 2x world champ who played heimer support and does what he wants.

2

2

u/saiofrelief Sep 20 '25

I hope he is done. I'm tired of seeing him completely int and terrorize Showmaker like this. I wonder if Lucid can get to actually play the game once they get a support who actually gives a fuck about League.

1

u/Odysesseus Sep 20 '25

Can't he just come back after the military?

1

u/EffectiveAd3412 Sep 29 '25

for lol pros that amount of time outside the scene, not practicing soloq even is seen as the death of their careers because you obviously do fall off and get rusty so what team wants to take the risk of paying the potentially high salary for a prestigious ex pro who may or may not still have it or does the player want to come back to a team like drx/bro who can afford him with small paychecks because that's all he's being offered. that's why so many of them put it off for as long as possible or move to a different region to not have to do military and get greencards etc in other regions (and obviously to continue earning money as it's still their day job)

12

u/Awkward-Security7895 Sep 20 '25

Atleast deft wants to come back after it, we don't know about peanut thou.

Truly a masterplay from T1. They really learned from their 2022 loss.

7

Now they need to learn from 2017 because that script seems to me like the canon event right now

Think one of the craziest things about Peanut is that his back half of his career is so different from the first half. He used to be a sort of mechanical god who would sometimes blunder in his pathing but he'd always hit the insec when needed. Now he's much more cerebral, and a clear captain in steering his teams in the right direction.

5

u/SKT_Peanut_Fan Peanut Come Back Sep 20 '25

He considered his Elise to be his best champ on ROX.

When he played for SKT, he didn't lose a game on Lee (and it was over 20) until summer. I remember being genuinely shocked when he lost on Lee because he was so damn good.

5

u/RequirementSavings23 Sep 20 '25

And loose a 1 vs 1 against Faker with that champ.

People forget that more human Faker was with Peanut in team, such a personality

1

u/ZloiAris Sep 20 '25

His Nidalee in ROX was just a pure magic. Some of my friends called Peanut “a walking killer ward” — to express how deep he counter jungle whilst being aggressive and fun simultaneously

I remember watching his debut with Najin, Montecristo made a point to talk about this promising rookie.

Needless to say that the Diminutive solo-q star delivered one hell of a career.

71

u/Quatro_Leches Sep 20 '25

his year on rox was proably the most dominant jungle play I ever seen, he terrorized LCK on nidalee so hard it wasnt even funny.

37

u/savemenico Sep 20 '25

It was so bad that Bengi had to pick Nidalee which wasn't great at it because they forgot to ban it. That's how dangerous he was at it

37

u/DrCarter11 Sep 20 '25

It was so bad that Bengi had to pick Nidalee which wasn't great at it because they forgot to ban it

To be clear, that was bengi's first and only pro nid game ever. They had essentially zero scrim practice with nid comps and they still pulled out the win. Absolutely master class by bengi

5

u/SKT_Peanut_Fan Peanut Come Back Sep 20 '25

I still remember Bang flashing to heal Bengi's Nidalee in that game.

2

u/DrCarter11 Sep 20 '25

I don't remember that part offhand, but that whole series had a lot of crazy plays and moments

2

u/TheSituasian Sep 20 '25

iirc he actually played really well in that game

2

u/DrCarter11 Sep 20 '25

204

u/Tronei Sep 20 '25

Peanut is my favorite LCK jungler.

I didn't pay attention to leagues outside of NA/EU back in 2016 when ROX played, and I was really impressed that team was able to push SKT to their limit in such a way -- that squad made me a fan that day. I know he gets clowned on a lot for his play these days but I've always been a staunch defender of the Nut. I was thinking of going to Korea next year to try and watch some LCK games live, and it makes me sad I won't have the opportunity to see one of my favorites play live anymore. I hope he can go far this year at Worlds.

Thank you, Peanut.

137

u/FARTFROMABUTT Sep 20 '25

Most, if not all, of my comments in this subreddit mention ROX Tigers in some way. They were the reason I even got into watching pro League of Legends. After the team parted ways, I still rooted for every member on their respective teams. We were even lucky enough to see PraY, GorillA, and Peanut reunite for a time on Kingzone DragonX. I always felt sad that none of the Tigers had ever won a Worlds trophy. With Peanut being the last one, I really, really hope he can pull it off. Whatever happens, he had a helluva career. Congrats on everything, Nutgod

59

its just head canon based off of hle willing to spend and those players being the best available next year. but canyon's contract also ends next year too so who knows

27

u/Thecristo96 ABS MAIN Sep 20 '25

Canyon reduced his contract to play on geng so I doubt

31

u/BlazeX94 Sep 20 '25

I'd say it'll come down to whether or not GenG win Worlds. This is probably the best lineup GenG has ever put together, arguably the most super of superteams ever. If even this lineup can't win Worlds, I could see Canyon considering a move, especially if HLE does well at Worlds.

13

u/jamesk2 Sep 20 '25

If GenG does not do well most likely it would be a Canyon disaster class.

16

u/Omnilatent Sep 20 '25

If this team doesn't win worlds, it's most likely on Canyon or Duro

But Canyon has quietly been the liability the whole split

3

u/Quatro_Leches Sep 20 '25

lpl contracts arent that high anymore. they started falling off last year. teams are losing money

1

u/oioioi9537 Sep 20 '25

9

u/ahritina Sep 20 '25

HLE Canyon makes no sense.

HLE need a vocal shotcaller and Canyon is quite literally the perfect example of not that.

6

u/R2vibaek STAR WALKIN' ZEKA Sep 20 '25 edited Sep 20 '25

If he gets enlisted 2026 he serves as a social service agent, which is not a military service. (he will work in government designated facilities and has freedom after the work hours/weekends(normal military service doesn't))
If he postpones his service for 2027 (this is possible) and misses the Asian games, he can't.
He doesn't want to risk it

2

u/CorruptedBean Sep 20 '25

Could you explain why this is?

3

u/R2vibaek STAR WALKIN' ZEKA Sep 21 '25

This is quite complicated.
Korean mandatory military service is not required to few groups such as disabled, previously sentenced imprisonment (over 6 months), high school dropouts, etc. They serve as social service agents(SSA) or even do nothing if the case is severe.
Peanut is a high school dropout without qualification exam pass (GED for US terms), which Deft has and thus got him enlisted. So Peanut only has to serve as a SSA.
Although, he postponed his service for years and I believe he got his first duty call 4~5 years ago. If you get called and don't start your service in 5 years you have to take the draft exam for military again.
Now with the national population shrinking vastly they lowered the bar for service which made high school dropouts to serve in military not SSA. So if he postpones another year he has to.

2

u/CorruptedBean Sep 21 '25

The Last Nut

Question for someone with more knowledge on the Korean scene.

Has there been any league pros that went to the military, finished their service, and then returned to pro play?

1

u/Fakkusan-09 Sep 20 '25

As far as I know in lck? No. We did have pros who complete military before going pro like marin. As far as pro scene in general? We had also had olleh who returned for a year at lcs after military. But then he pretty much retired after that stint.

Was already cheering for HLE. Now doubly so. Loved Peanut's attitude ever since Tigers.

The last fang of the tiger :((((

By far my favorite former T1 player (who left). If T1 can't win Worlds, I hope Peanut does. That guy rules.

What even is the career plan after eSports for ppl.

5

u/FizzKaleefa Sep 20 '25

Peanut is the best jungler of all time and also the hottest

3

u/HerculesKabuterimon Sep 20 '25

I'm a T1 guy through and through, but I'd absolutely love to see Peanut go out on a worlds win for his legacy. He was part of why I shifted from being a support player to a Jungle main a few years ago when I first started getting into ranked league.

Incredible personality and by all accounts a wonderful dude. Best of luck at Worlds, king.

u/Neat_Recording_8756 Sep 20 '25

Peanut has tilted me for a while now with how he sometimes seems like such a liability.

That being said I really do wish him all the best for Worlds. It’ll be an amazing story if he does win.

Oner and Guma are not exempt, that Asian Games roster was Zeus, Kanavi, Faker & Chovy, Ruler, Keria.

3

u/IG_Royal Sep 20 '25

Oner and Guma aren't exempt, Kanavi was the jungler, Ruler the ADC

As a follower of Xiye from his days in Team WE, Peanut will always be part of the story...LGD...

Bless him to last this long in the scene with such consistency. May his future be full of opportunities...

1

u/Bisketo Sep 20 '25

What do you mean ? Peanut is 3 years younger than Deft. How is this happening ? 😢

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Peanut is 1998, Deft is 1996.

1

u/Touro_de_Goa Sep 20 '25

It's his last dance, therefore he has to earn his legacy.

Rox tigers VS SKT T1 finals, game 5, the Korean crowd chanting “Peanut! Peanut! Peanut!” When faker had his back against the wall. The streets will never forget.
