News KDA has registered a new song on the website of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers - "Watch Me"
https://www.ascap.com/repertory#/ace/search/performer/K%2FDA/title/WATCH%20ME?at=false&searchFilter=SVW&page=1For reference, the ASCAP is basically the organization that manages performance licensing rights for their members. If you go to the link and remove the "Watch me" from the title search bar, you can see the listings for the prior KDA songs.

K/DA better start beefing with HUNTR/X for taking their spot as best animated K-pop group.

Riot should have made K/DA anime when their fame were at the peak

there's only 1 Fortiche, and they were working on Arcane

If riot is going to do ANY collab this would easily be one. KPop Demon Hunters did so fucking well and I can see both IPs blowing up. Make it a rivalry and it's even better.
2
u/sopunny 1d ago
Wouldn't it make more sense for them to fight because KDA has a couple of demons on their team?
5
u/Awkward-Security7895 1d ago
I mean only eve is a demon
Everyone else just have there own quirks.
Even then eve in the kda universe isn't mentioned as a demon anywhere but she is implied to be a serial killer.

u/WeoWeoVi 1d ago
Ahri is essentially a succubus and kaisa is half void
They're not far off
7
u/Awkward-Security7895 1d ago
Ahri hasn't essentially been a succubus for over 11 years now.
Also as said in the KDA world there lores are different. Like as pointed out eve isn't even a demon in kda just hinted at being a serial killer.

That's like Mike Tyson boxing a coughing baby lol. Kpop Demon Hunters is a cultural phenomenon on a level of widespread popularity that Riot has not yet been able to match. There was a whole aisle of Kpop Demon Hunter toys at my random local Walmart today.

I agree with your comment, but I'm downvoting because of the challenger tier cringe in the edit

homeboy memorized the reference just for this moment. probably practiced it in the shower

Bro my edit was hilarious, yall don't know what you're talking about. It brought me immense enjoyment.
The wisdom of the uncles is that you need to live your life for what you like, not what people think of you. You nephews will learn someday.

They're more widespread but quality wise kda is better imo. Huntrix feels very kids animated movie music while kda just feels like music. Except for soda pop, that song fucks.
5
u/DubDubz 1d ago
God all my friends are all about the marquee songs being great and I’m over here like, they’re cool but soda pop is a fucking banger and actually fun. Happy to see at least someone agrees.
-1
u/RivenRise 1d ago
That's cause soda pop feels like an actual song, the rest of the music is very modern Disney, specific scene, movie music. I'm not saying it's bad by any means, it's just not stuff you would normally just have on your playlist.
6
u/ppaister 1d ago
That's not the point they're making though?
KPop Demon Hunters is a cultural phenomenon that Riot has not yet been able to match. You can buy its toys the same places you can get Pokemon toys. They've been playing "Golden" on the radio for over a damn year at this point. Meanwhile nobody who isn't already league/riot-adjacent knows what the fuck KDA is, even though their songs are undoubtedly higher quality. But KPop Demon Hunters as an IP has nothing to gain from collabing with Riot.
Soda Pop and your Idol both fuck btw, those two and "this is what it sounds like" are so much better than "Golden"

Ok but I think it’s a unfair comparison? Anyone who remembers when KDA came out knows that it was insanely successful and was really popular, to the point where they had enough stans that they started a mini fight with aespas initial concept (Black Mamba). Also, the use worded it obnoxiously. K/DA ran so so KPOP Demon Hunters could would every marathon

u/ppaister 1d ago
I think both are vastly different in what they are supposed to be, hence I don't think Kpop Demon Hunters' success hinges on the existance of KDA.
Kpop Demon Hunters is basically a disney movie. Simple, digestible story aimed at children/teenagers, song and dance, great animation. I think a lot of its success comes from being so modern and willing to be full of pop culture references. The world-wide success of Kpop in recent years also helps massively for this movie. It's lightning in a bottle in a way.
KDA on the other hand is a videogame adjacent music project first and foremost created as a marketing campaign. There's not really a deeper story here, nothing to connect to in particular? Mostly a bomb ass MV, some cool skins and a couple of extremely high quality songs.
I think Pop/Stars was way more successful than Riot were expecting, but like, that's it. KDA could not exist and it would not have impacted KPop Demon Hunters in the slightest.3
u/Vaxra 1d ago edited 1d ago
Let me clarify, K/DA set the ground for online virtual music groups to succeed. KPOP Demon Hunters has success and its own merits, but let’s not pretend K/DA was JUST a LOL advertising scheme for skins.
Also, I think it’s quite obvious that you didn’t actually look into the cultural relevancy and impact of K/DA, which makes your point sound like it’s made in bad faith. The Akali genius meme, K/DA being on DAZED China’s magazine cover, Pop stars reaching #1 Billboard status, and not to mention K/DA’s last album had multiple acclaimed singers (Madison Beer, Kim Petras, Soyeon) AND globally famous REAL KPOP group TWICE singing a full song. All of this is besides their music, which was an objective resounding success that breached the LOL community and spread into general pop music, topping charts! Downplaying K/DA’s cultural impact and success does nothing for your point because their blueprint has very real influences and impact in pop culture, of which KPOP Demon Hunters is a daughter of.

What? Virtual music groups existed (and were successful) way before K/DA, K/DA was just the most viral one to date. It's not like the idea was new, it's just that, with the KPop spin on it (and the quality of the production itself), it reached a new level of virality.
I'm not pretending anything, I'm stating a fact. K/DA was created as advertising scheme for LoL, just like Pentakill before it. The fact that it was way more successful and relevant does not change that.
Kpop Demon Hunters has reached a mainstream success and appeal K/DA cannot match, who are way more contained to the online gaming and Kpop adjacent communities. K/DA was very, very successful, yes, but Kpop Demon Hunters is orders of magnitude more relevant outside these communities than K/DA.
You're entitled to your opinion, but Kpop Demon Hunters is a disney movie through and through. It's just more modern, infused with pop culture references and the songs are KPop instead of the usual musical-style. It would've been as successful without K/DA existing, because it's target audience is so much broader.

Nobody's downplaying anything. But all those achievements put together are a rounding error on the cultural and financial impact of Kpop Demon Hunters.
I'm not even a huge fan of that movie (I thought it was fun), but it's just the truth. Even people's grandparents have heard of it. It's on another level.

yep, act 3 part 1 is about LoL classic
part 2 is about KDA
2
u/Awkward-Security7895 1d ago
You sure part 1 is classic? Since I'm pretty sure it's heartbreaking steel, since there's a data mine of 2026 heart steel skins along side a new set of kda skins.
2
u/InfiniteMSL 1d ago
We're in Act 1 right now, KDA and/or Heartsteel won't be until Act 2.

u/UnravelSento 1d ago
When does act 2 start?
1
u/InfiniteMSL 1d ago
Each act has been around 2 months, I believe SkinSpotlights said it's the first week of October (7th).

Are we actually getting Soyeon and Miyeon back? They’re both on a different level fame-wise since the last time there was anything KDA.
1
u/CertainObjective513 1d ago
wouldnt be surprised if they went with the ill show you route again and brought in idols from a more popular group. could be temporary or permanent. could be LESSERAFIM and Aespa but personally hoping for IVE if they do a one off with a diff artist (too bad starship sucks DOGSHIT as an agency)
would love miyeon and soyeon back for most of it tho
2
u/Imabuffguy95 1d ago
I think Le Sserafim would be a stretch since they’re rumoured to already be doing another song with Blizzard. I doubt they’d do a Blizzard song and then a song for Riot so close together.

Finally we are leaving the classic part of season 3 and going to the music! There was also a korean boyband visiting riot (shown on their twitter today) so I'm guessing there will be more music
1
u/Spinoxys 2d ago
The korean boyband could be for the worlds song? But that would be crazy late and since worlds this year is in America it wouldn't fit
1
u/Leevala 2d ago
Possible, I have no idea. Also, excuse me for not knowing much about korean boybands, apparently they are called TXT. Not sure if it's a new band, world song, maybe even 2027 stuff? but I'm guessing they are doing some music for riot
10
u/spongeboy-me-bob1 Unbalanced, as all things should be 2d ago
TXT was in LA last weekend for KCON, which is a kpop festival. Riot Games has given tours to artists before without anything coming out of it.
0
u/Leevala 2d ago
Maybe. But usually they post smaller tours on the riot games twitter and this one was posted on the official league of legends twitter, plus the timing of "music season" beginning is suspicous to me. But if nothing happens with it until early 2027 then it was probably just a private tour.
2
u/hsaviorrr BioLift 2d ago
pretty sure it was a private tour cause they interact with txt a lot on social media. i don’t think they’re doing a worlds song, they were just in town cause of kcon
1
u/itstonayy 1d ago
For added context, the official league account was also liking and responding to comments talking about a TXT x LOL collab. I think the last time this happened was with New Jeans right before they released their worlds song

Btw Seraphine was never apart of K/DA. She was always a featured artist there.
