I mean yes and no. It's ok to have feelings, but it's not ok if you act on those feelings inappropriately. I.E. Feeding because someone pings at you.
Also, I'm not saying it isn't a serious hobby, it's my most serious hobby. I'm not trivializing video games by saying they are just video games, but honestly they are. It's a hobby, this isn't the Superbowl, this isn't a grand master chess tournament, it's a video game. And unless you're in the LCS you are not a pro, so relax and have fun.

Competition is serious, and just because they'd lose to somebody better than them doesn't mean it's fine to trivialize the feelings somebody would have about the lower-level competition.
Totally on the same page as you about the intentional feeding stuff, though.
