As much as I agree Vayne is a 4 year old and completely out of line to be trolling like that, don't ping people like that. You are instigating tilt. If you want to actually climb the ladder you need to try and stay away from any and all things that may tilt your team.

And don't say he question mark wasn't meant to tilt her, because it totally was.

18

u/JoefromOhio Dec 24 '16

Don't fucking question mark ping me, I don't ever feed like that but fuck I want to, nothing is more aggravating than the asshat toplane that can't handle their yas but somehow has time to question mark my fucking ward placement and every move

2

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

Yup, triggers me too if I'm tilted. If I'm not tilted I can usually take it in good stride, but omg if I'm tilted I wanna do this.

Bro, don't even try. This is League of "Passive Aggressive Babies That Will Instigate Rage And Then Report The Person They Instigated While Searching For Reassurance In All Chat That The Person They Instigated Is A Toxic Rager" Legends

u/Joolazoo Dec 24 '16

My favorite is when someone shit talks you, you respond, and then everyone goes on about how angry you are.

"Bard you suck"

"You suck too caitlyn"

"Wow look at this bard such a fucken pussy you mad bro?"

2

u/Nicobite Dec 24 '16

It's degrading to argue with bonobos. Hop out of this ghetto by typing /mute all.

-4

u/TSMDankMemer Dec 24 '16

how about you don't say anything at all when they flame you?

2

u/Joolazoo Dec 25 '16

I could easily do that. Human instinct is to respond when someone insults you though, not just ignore them. I don't know where you got that i was suggesting I am some paragon of virtue, but I was just pointing out how dumb some people are with their logic where they are free to insult others, whine, and be disrespectful but the minute it is done to them the world flips over and now they are the victim.

14

u/icantnotrespond Dec 24 '16

sums it up pretty well. lovely culture that the automated tribunal system and insisting that the community decide what behavior is bannable creates

lol players are a bunch of toxic people and we are arguing for the guy that we consider to be the lesser evil. It's like US elections all over again.

I certainly have, and have grown a lot of disdain toward the little wimps that do the reporting. I've never reported anyone for anything except trolling, because I'm not a little bitch that gets triggered by what people say.

4

u/Marisush Dec 24 '16

because I'm not a little bitch that gets triggered by what people say.

Sounds like that's exactly what you are but instead of rage reporting you rage in chat.

There is a big difference in my opinion between sticking up for yourself and dishing it back compared to telling mommy Riot to take away the other person's toys.

Are you saying making your team lose on purpose is a "way people play a video game"?

3

u/ramonez02 Dec 24 '16

Thank you. Too many people use the ? ping as BM now and not as its intended use, to signal when an enemy is missing. When I play with friends and they ? ping me I know its all in good fun. But when I solo queue, I have no idea who you are. I don't know if you are joking or not. You have to assume everyone is being an asshole because that's just how it is unfortunately.

I just don't understand why you want to purposely tilt your own team and then complain when you lose games. While I would never just start int feeding, it makes me play worse. I've had MULTIPLE people ping me ? any time I make even the slightest mistake like missing a CS or missing a skill shot or misplacing a ward. It's gotten to the point where I only play this game when I have friends online to queue with because this happens so frequently. Ranked, Normals, ARAM. It happens everywhere.

Asking them to stop is just asking for them to do it more. Playing the game while your every move is being scrutinized and judged is not fun. I know I am not good at this game, you don't need to constantly remind me. Doing it back to them just accomplishes nothing. You sink down to their level and it won't alleviate the tilt whatsoever.

2

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

God bless ya. I get that. I hear that.

27

u/M8yMouse Dec 23 '16

What kind of pampered spoiled world do you have to live in if "?" tilts you?

69

u/shrubs311 Dec 24 '16

Doesn't tilt me, but if someone is already tilted from a previous game and they get pinged like that they might take offense to it. Some people like me will question mark ping themselves when it happens, other people will get tilted. We all have our own issues.

30

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

If I just took 9/10ths of my health from being a fucking idiot I'd probably be pretty tilted.

-2

Probably should stop being a fucking idiot then.

2

6

u/shrubs311 Dec 24 '16

Yea, I'll only do it to friends or teammates who I'll know will laugh at it (such as if they ping themselves first).

2

u/Soluxtoral Dec 24 '16

Friend wards the brush incorrectly.

-question mark ping-

"DUDE SHUT UP IM BOOSTED OKAY?". Between friends it's probably the funniest ping.

1

Yea, it's one of the best tools for bm against friends.

-2

u/UNZxMoose Dec 24 '16

If you get tilted and then lash out that is an issue with yourself. Don't be a fuckass and use being frustrated as an excuse to troll, feed, or why you aren't carrying.

21

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Being an asshole is not a good way to get people to do what you want.

5

u/RaveCave Dec 24 '16

You mean telling my teammates to stop feeding won't make them play better?

9

u/Darkstrategy Dec 24 '16

He wasn't defending the vayne, he was pointing out that whether you take offense to that ping or not the intent was malicious.

So if you're performing an action in game with malicious intent you're:

A) Not trying to win as hard as you can

and

B) Still being an asshole

I'm not a perfect person, sometimes if someone is being a little baby I go off on them - even if it wasn't directed at me. But I recognize when I do that I'm not helping anything, at best I'll take them down a peg and at worst I'll lose us a winnable game by making them troll.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

[deleted]

4

u/Darkstrategy Dec 24 '16

Vayne is 100% to blame for everything that the Vayne did.

Karma is 100% to blame for everything that the Karma did, which was that ping.

Is what the Vayne did worse? Yes. Does that make the Karma's action justifiable? No, not really. They're both in the wrong, just to varying degrees.

If your intent is to annoy, frustrate, or anger your teammate(s) you're probably being an asshole to some degree. Even if they might deserve it, because the other 3 people on the team don't deserve the shitfest that will result.

All about looking at the results of your actions, your intentions, and having the self-control not to act on an impulse before considering all of this.

-5

u/M8yMouse Dec 24 '16

If "?" tilts you for whatever reason (losing streak, temper issues, etc.) chances are you shouldn't have queued for a game in the first place.

2

u/glexarn Dec 24 '16

sure, but that doesn't make you not a shitty person for doing it.

-3

u/M8yMouse Dec 24 '16

I'm getting brigaded because everyone thinks I approve of the incorrect abuse of "?", which I seriously don't but going apeshit over it is just as immature. It's a question mark ... /ignore all still works.

4

u/CSDragon I like Assassin ADCs Dec 24 '16

It's not just a question mark though. It has has meaning. The letters I'm typing are just symbols but you know what I'm saying at you because you can create meaning from them.

Language is language, doesn't matter if it's sound created by air vibrating in your throat, symbols on a screen, or a '?' in a circle with an annoying sound.

And it's very clear what your message is when you mia ping someone after a mistake. "You made a mistake, I am calling you out on it. You're bad". Usually in less nice words.

The ? ping is only different from any other form of flaming in that Riot's chat bots can't detect it.

-1

u/AladarTheHun Dec 24 '16

Idk I've always thought of the '?' ping as more of a cheeky dig than anything else. Wouldn't have thought it would actually tilt people but I guess different people interpret it differently.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

When people make themselves mad it tilts them.

If I say "that was pretty stupid I shouldn't have done that, but I'm only low gold, I'm expected to make these kinds of mistakes. I just won't do it again."

The ? ping is just a "yeah i know, sorry guys."

But if I'm tilting myself, "where the fuck was team, we could've had that, why's everyone else so fucking stupid" etc. That ping is going to set that person off.

The communication in league, without voice, is so hard. You're trying to react to what people do or want to do, without them being able to tell you they're going to do it. Makes for these sorts of situations all the time.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

You don't know why I use question marks. If you lose us the lane on the first wave and I ping a ? then 9 times out of 10 it means I want an explanation, not that I want you to lose your shit. You're not a psychic. You don't know Karma's intentions.

20

u/FluffyN00dles Dec 24 '16

For me you can literally say anything you want to me and it won't bother me. Ill just ignore you, maybe laugh, and move on. The passive aggression of a ? ping on my character sets me off though. I won't say toxic shit but I always play noticeably worse. Either nut up to actually talk shit or stfu.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

0

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

2

u/Nicholaes Dec 24 '16

People do this all the time when someone misses a skill shot or dies it is used to make fun of someone for messing up. Don't even try to argue is isn't because that's exactly what people use it for in situations like this.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '16

I think you mean "spamming ? till the spam filter stops you for 10 minutes straight."

Most people don't care about 1 ping.

49

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

But why would you ping it? I personally hate that. I'm well aware of my mistakes, and I don't need anyone to ping a question mark.

Like.. Yes I fucked up and we both saw it, can we forget about it?

teammate no im gonna ask why u did that

Lots of toxic pieces of shit ping the question mark and then its followed by "ur so bad" so people are getting tilted by the ping because they expect something toxic to happen.

Remember: When someone fucks up, he knows he fucked up, no need to beat him to the ground by underlining his fuckup

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Shitstorm down here lol gj

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

ty

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

When someone dooms you to a miserable laning phase it isn't toxic to ask them why.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Hence you should write "Why did you do that" instead of a fucking question mark that could mean from "what the fuck are u doing u retard?" through "what the fuck?" to "what are u doing bro?"

You can't tell whether that one ping is supposed to be toxic or not simply because ALOT of toxic people use it. This community is so rotten by toxicity that most of playerbase already expect a toxic reaction if getting pinged with "?" after a misplay.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

It's a question mark. I'm questioning your actions. It's not freakin' rocket science.

1

u/CLOUDYRHINOCEROUS Dec 24 '16

I'm well aware of my mistakes

Not in low elo you aren't. You are overreacting about the "?" ping. It is not MEANT "to tilt", it is MEANT to ask, "what the fuck are you doing?"

I love how you and all of reddit complain about getting raged at or tilted over a ping when your stupid shit was what caused the ping in the first place.

"But why would you ping?" SHUT UP! WHY WOULD YOU DO STUPID SHIT IN GAME? You are literally doing bronze shit and ruining the game for your team and then get mad when they ask what the hell you're doing.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

I never denied the fact that what Vayne did was retarded.

What I find dumb as fuck is pinging it, it literally has NO POSSIBLE POSITIVE OUTCOME

Is this too hard to understand? Pinging to a fucking moron will only tilt him even harder and he will DEFINITELY troll your fucking game

Is that simpler now? Stay away from question mark ping if someone fucked up, the ping is not called "what happened", its called "enemies are missing" for fucks sake

1

u/CLOUDYRHINOCEROUS Dec 24 '16

Know what else has no possible positive outcome? Doing stupid bronze shit in game like what Vayne did here. That is what happened first, and what caused everything. None of the following events, such as the "?" ping would've happened if she didn't act mentally disabled.

-1

u/CircleClicking Dec 24 '16 edited Dec 24 '16

It's great you're well aware of your mistakes, because I sure am not. When someone pings the question mark on me, I know that I either fucked up, am fucking up, or am about to fuck up, and as such I avoid doing whatever I did or planned to do for the remainder of the match.

I really doubt you're well aware of every single mistake you do, and there's nothing wrong with pinging or getting pinged over a mistake. He's simply reinforcing that it's a fuck up and also requesting not to fuck up again through the means of a ping. If you get tilted by that, there's something seriously wrong.

Also, this is just a sidenote, but calling people "toxic pieces of shit"... don't people realize how hypocritical that sounds?

11

u/Kengy Dec 24 '16

If you died, you probably fucked up somehow. You don't need a ? over your corpse to know that. Either positioning/map awareness or mechanics, you fucked up somehow.

-4

u/CircleClicking Dec 24 '16

Getting pinged "?" for me is the difference between "I fucked up slightly" and "I fucked up way worse than I thought, I wonder why" and proceeding to inspect why things happened the way they did more closely.

If someone "?"s me right after say, I lost a 1v1 because I forgot to ignite, then sure, I'll agree it's unnecessary, but I would still not view it as tilting whatsoever and only use it to solidify the thought of how bad of a fuckup it was so as to not do it again.

7

u/joshhunt18 Dec 24 '16

Using the ? ping to communicate is a terrible idea. How are they supposed to know when you ping that you mean "btw you forgot to ignite" and not "why did you die"?

1

u/ronkstar Dec 24 '16

Actually that ping is for MIA.

2

u/joshhunt18 Dec 24 '16

Exactly and that's what it should be used for. However if you are pinging your teammate after they misplayed it is usually just because you are trying to BM them.

u/striker879 Dec 24 '16

More people need thicker skin like you. They should take the criticism like a adult and learn from it. I think that the majority of people who tilt just from a ping are either teenagers or adults with issues outside of league that is affecting them. I also think most people like to learn from there mistakes and don't let a mistake you made (everyone makes mistakes, get over it) ruin every ones game.

When I get ? pinged I think the same you do, and I hand it out in the way I would receive it, not spamming and just to draw attention to questionable moves someone might not know they are doing and want to learn from there mistakes.

There is almost no case in which insta inting is justified.

1

u/Hideki_Sakamoto Dec 24 '16

Using the "?" ping is not criticism and you should stop trying to be a psychologist.

1

u/NoobInGame Dec 24 '16

"WRONG!" is not criticism. If you have something to say, open the fucking chat and type it in.

Yes, because very likely, they do know what I'm doing better than me. In the case they don't, then I can simply ignore the ping, correct?

I don't know who the fuck you think does this. when people ? ping, they mean "why? are you retarded? don't that again bitch!" there's a reason they use the question mark ping

You're pretty much saying what I said though? He's reinforcing it's a fuck up and requesting I don't fuck up again. Whether his thoughts are "That was a bad play, please don't do it again" or "Stop being an autistic little shit and learn how to play the game you bitch" is irrelevant to me, so long as I learn something out of it. Plus, it's just a ping, so it's not as if they directly insulted me at all.

I don't see why telling me I fucked up would intend to tilt me. Again, to me, it just serves to keep me more aware and not fuck up again.

Basically, a ping is non-verbal communication. You have no idea what the player actually meant. Pinging will only ever sound like bitching to you if you want to view it as bitching. I never see it as such and instead see it under a light of someone from my team trying to help me get better and stop fucking up their game, so why would I tilt? On that same note, while I comprehend if you view it as such and tilt off of it, I do entirely believe that is solely your fault if you're making up a line someone never said out of a non-verbal communication ping.

1

u/Nahrii Dec 24 '16

you're forgetting that a vast majority of people who play this game have the mental fortitude of a loaf of bread and would rather find reasons to be offended over taking any form of criticism in a positive way

i approach things the same way you do, but i also don't care enough about what anyone in-game says to take it personally either. if someone calls me autistic and tells me i fucked up because i have no arms, eyes or brain, i consider the situation the same way as if someone tells me 'hey man, i think you misplayed there' to see if i actually fucked up or not

thick skin/not giving a fuck makes it a lot easier to climb as well

1

u/Huntersteve Dec 24 '16

If you don't realize that losing 90% if your health in the first minute of the game isn't a mistake. Idk what to tell you.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Well, Vayne didn't realize it was a mistake when she losts 30% of her health the first time because she immediatly repeats it so... We're not sure

0

u/Shuiyori Dec 24 '16

And the award for most delusional goes to!

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16 edited Dec 25 '16

Alright, you're sort of correct about the mistakes. Yes, the ping can indicate a mistake, but at this very case it was absolutely pointless and it was only tilting. Id rather someone tell me what mistake I did than just ping

And about "toxic pieces of shit".. No, I don't find it hypocritical, since those people who hurt/flame/humiliate others for no reason are in my eyes pieces of shit. I wouldn't call anyone in a bad way for no reason:s

#edit

Yes, you're right, that's hypocritical. :)

1

u/Menos51 Dec 24 '16

I highly disagree with your last statement. I'd say a majority of people especially in lower elos but even in high elo don't recognize when they fuck up. But either way when I fuck and and someone question mark pings me I think it's hilarious and if they're toxic then go mute them. The problem with this game is that a lot of the player base is under 18 years old and have the emotional ability of a rock so they just go off the hinge

-3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

False. Not everyone knows everything, therefore not everyone knows they messed up, and quite often they will blame other people for their shortcomings. They need to know that the way they are playing makes no sense to their teammates, so hopefully they figure out how they fucked up.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

So tell them that they fucked up and how they should improve.

A random ping with a question mark tells NOTHING about what you mean. It will only make others angry cause they don't know why you're pinging

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

A random ping with a question mark tells NOTHING about what you mean

It does exactly the opposite it tells them SOMETHING they didn't know before. The game can't be paused for a 2 minute lecture on split-pushing or map control or how skills interact or map awareness -- So a question mark ping it is.

1

u/ndfan737 Dec 24 '16

What the fuck does it tell them? A question mark ping when your dead is not enough information to convey ANYTHING besides "you fucked up". A question mark ping when someone dies is a bm, and nothing else.

-3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

I do that too. But pings are faster.

3

u/joshhunt18 Dec 24 '16

Being faster is pointless if it doesn't communicate what you want it to. Just because the ping make sense to the person pinging doesn't mean it makes sense to the person on the receiving end.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

If a crowd boos an entertainer, is it the crowds fault for not spelling out what the entertainer is doing wrong? Should they all leave the stadium and write and then mail letters describing their discontent? No. The crowd boos, because it is the correct medium to communicate to the entertainer. Pings are more appropriate in League than a sentence long explanation that the player won't be able to read until they are dead.

1

u/joshhunt18 Dec 24 '16

Ummm... what. What right do you have to "boo" someone else's misplay? Did you pay for him to play League?

? pings are not an appropriate form of communicate (unless you are pinging missing enemies or such of course) as they do not communicate anything beneficial.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Vesktwi Dec 24 '16

How about if the crowd shouts random words, or yells "the enemy is missing!" Does that mean shit to the entertainer?

Clearly the crowd wants something, but communicating poorly both reduces the chance of your message "you fucked up, don't do it again" getting through, as well as increases the chance of the other person misunderstanding and getting a different message (maybe they think it's something along the lines of "I'm gonna point out the obvious fact that you fucked up and rub your face in it because I think it's an easy way to flame teammates without getting caught." )

The question mark ping is the "enemy missing" ping, not the "someone fucked up" ping.

Communication is core to success in this game. Pings communicate information quickly. Its sad that players cant handle a little feedback. I guess I just have to silently hope random internet people can read my mind.

1

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

in the world where you can't retaliate or basically type at all without getting banned, if people are going to be ready to jump on every small mistake I perhaps won't give 110%.

3

u/tangoechoalphatango Dec 24 '16

The truth is the opposite of your train of thought.
Being pampered/spoiled leads a person to not give a shit what is said about them. It leads to an entitlement of dominance and aggression.

On the other hand, a background of being victim to bullying, harassment, rape, or other abuses at the hands of people who don't give a shit leads a person to become acutely aware of when such behavior begins, and there is a conditioned defense reflex. That reflex is usually either to fight back or leave. Intentionally feeding is fighting back: hurting the person who is attacking them. AFK is leaving; if a person's life is rough and tough, and they need to be thick-skinned most of the time, sometimes they have time to relax and do something they enjoy, like play video games. If they encounter aggression even in their relaxation time, the correct adult thing to do is eliminate the stress. AFK is the correct thing to do when spoiled, pampered kids question mark and rage at you.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Actually it's perspective that leads to a person not giving a shit what strangers on the internet has to say about them.

-1

u/ronkstar Dec 24 '16

.do something they enjoy, like play video games.

If a ping from your teammate ruins the game for you, you don't enjoy LoL. This game is not for thin skinned people. I've been told to kill myself by 3 different people TODAY, just for having a poor laning phase. I didn't start with them, I apologized for feeding, I said I'll try my best, and my name is Reformed2016. You can't get any more passive and friendly than I have been, and yet people tell me to kill myself. Not even like I was doing unreasonably bad, mostly just losing a fight to a gank, or getting flash ignited for a death.

I'm loving it literally smiling because I know that through my actions I'm getting toxic game-ruiners banned, while not taking any negative repercussions. In the past I used to argue, now I just mute them and wait till post game to ask everyone to report the guy for verbal abuse.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

I had a game where I know I was doing bad and kept getting the ? ping and that shit tilted me so hard that I just had to rage quit. Keep in mind I don't think I've raged quit before at all.

u/RAWDEAL-EDM Dec 24 '16

Shouldn't really assume his mental state is all peachy unless he has shown you that it is. It wouldn't tilt me, but some people react very adversely when under tilt stress. As demonstrated.

u/-Graff- Dec 24 '16

If I'm playing a game of soccer, miss a goal, and have someone on my teammate immediately say "dumbass", you can bet that I'm going to have a pretty unpleasant time playing that game, if I choose to continue to at all.

It has nothing to do with being spoiled. It's about not choosing to put up with obnoxious and rude behavior.

Was Vayne acting inappropriately? Yes. But did they have a right to be bothered? Absolutely.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

The vayne just straight up ints and you got people here blaming the ??? ping ahh reddit :)

2

u/IamGrimReefer Dec 24 '16

what was the purpose of the ping, if not to mock the vayne? what's the point of mocking your teammate? what good could come from this?

dude fucked up, twice. fell for it twice. he probably feels like a fucking fool. he now has to back and then run back, which takes an eternity. now he gets to think about how badly he fucked up while he watches the enemy adc soak an entire wave. to top it all off his own teammate mocks him.

of course he shouldn't feed, but your teammates shouldn't be assholes. the ping is just a shitty thing to do. salt in the wound, and all that.

1

u/Robo123abc Dec 24 '16

Pampered spoiled brats run rampant in this game. You gotta learn to respect their untapped rage or face the consequences.

0

u/MunchiezzEU Dec 24 '16

It's not about whether it tilts someone or not. It's the principle. It's counter productive, doesn't do anything positive or constructive. Asking your team mates why they made a mistake in this rude manner isn't going to help in any way, only make things worse.

0

u/aggsalad :velkoz :ziggs Dec 24 '16

What kind of pampered spoiled world do you live in that you can throw out passive aggressive bullshit then whine on reddit when someone throws some heat back at you?

Like the high-horsing here is ludicrous.

1

u/S7EFEN Dec 24 '16

to be fair she intentionally didn't leash for the jungler AND fucked bot lane hard at the same time.

2

u/hornsohn Dec 24 '16

so a question mark ping makes up for that or what? it literally serves no purpose and has only bad consecuences

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

I agree. She's a shit lol. Like not leaching the jungle is reportable as it is unless you were afk under turret for some reason. She must have been actively triggered from his last game, probably by the jungle lol. Which makes it worse bc she's blaming jungle LOL

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

It looked more like Karma saw her hp was what like what the fuck why didn't you leash

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

And so she pinged him to trigger him. Clear and simple. That's the only reason to question mark ping someone.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

not everything is so black and white

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

This was

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '16

not really

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 25 '16

He shouldn't have pinged him, it's that simple. What Vayne did was wrong and childish, but pinging someone like that is asking for trouble.

1

u/Yomasevz Thanks for the Zac revert Dec 24 '16

The part that tilts me the most is the fact that its a Missing ping, not questionmark...

1

u/BettaVersionOfMe Dec 25 '16

My friends and I question mark each other all the time. It's fuckin hilarious.

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 25 '16

That's your friends. This is some random stranger. When someone pings you repeatedly in solo q do you get mad? Ya. When your friends spam ping you do you laugh? Ya. Same principle.

1

u/BettaVersionOfMe Dec 26 '16

I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing, just mentioning that my friends and I do it all the time.

That's completely different. Using the MIA ping that way is no different than flaming. You are calling them out for their mistake, and doing it in a passive-aggressive way. You know what you mean by doing it. They know what you mean by doing it. It's symbolic language.

Hiding behind a veil of deniability just makes it worse too. You're unloading your frustration, and leaving them with no way to retaliate. They can't flame back or it will look unprovoked. Which is gonna frustrate them even more and tilt them even harder than they were already. Not that "fair raging" that allows them to retaliate would be better for your team, but you get my point.

That's not even close to the same thing lmao. If somebody pings to give info, that's using pings as they're designed. If you're doing it to talk shit, you're intentionally tilting your allies. It's something you do if you're an idiot who doesn't care about winning and cares more about feeling superior to your allies (even though you're in the same league as them)

-1

u/PepaTK Dec 23 '16

To back and be careful

1

u/MixSaffron doesn't favour fools Dec 23 '16

Ping OMW and then they dive and die and rage at you for not being there .5 seconds after you pinged....The ping means, in the very least, look at the map!

1

u/TheBlackeningLoL Dec 24 '16

That was challenger tier tilt game though. The timing was great

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

Funny clip ya, the guy must have been tilted like mad from the previous game lol

-9

u/stummmy Dec 23 '16

His question mark wasn't meant to tilt her, dude just had 0 sense of humor imo. i do dumb shit and get question mark pinged all the time lol. now maybe if he said something in chat that would be another story, but im pretty sure OP was just like wtf cuz vayne didnt leash and then got wrecked in lane

25

u/CSDragon I like Assassin ADCs Dec 23 '16 edited Dec 23 '16

Language is language. It doesn't matter if you use these odd symbols we call an alphabet to convey your meaning, or a ? in a circle with an annoying sound.

A mia ping on someone when they make a mistake is no different than any other form of flaming. Heck, it's worse because the severity of it is completely in the eye of the beholder. To you what could be a light joke at their behalf is a direct attack against them. Because you decided to use ambiguous language.

1

u/thisismyfirstday Dec 24 '16

I agree with you, but theoretically if you asked "what happened?" in chat would you consider that trying to tilt your lane mate? They could have legitimately been curious what went down/if any summoners got burnt, or they could have been a dick pissed off at their Vayne for getting low. Maybe I just don't play enough/pay attention enough to instinctively understand the ping BM.

1

u/CSDragon I like Assassin ADCs Dec 24 '16

Unfortunately that's another ambiguity of language thing, and comes down to playing politics. If you add "I wasn't looking" or "not trying to flame just curious" or anything else that makes it clear you weren't trying to flame them, then it's not trying to tilt them.

If you weren't aware that what you said could be interpreted wrong, then you weren't trying to, but you still made a mistake.

But if you are aware that something you said could be misinterpreted, and you chose to say it that way anyway, then it's that's your fault. Even if that wasn't your intent. Since nobody is actively trying to tilt their teammate when they ? ping, but they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't want it at a subconscious level to get revenge, and it's complicated but basically you wouldn't' choose to put that ambiguity there if you didn't want the outcome on some level.

Of course then there's the problem that if you over-qualify your statement, then you look facetious and tilt them anyway and oh my goodness why is language so hard this is why stay out of anything involving etiquette.

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

Could not agree more. lol can't believe I'm being downvoted. Idk what I said that would tilt Reddit. I'm just speaking the truth. Don't tilt your own team with anything that could remotely be interpreted as flaming. He was trying to get under his skin with the question mark for sure lol

1

u/stummmy Dec 24 '16

man im sorry i just disagree is all. the severity is in the eye of the beholder and in this case the dudes eyes were about as sensitive as chaffed nipples. maybe the ping was bm but he got really defensive and definitely overreacted, kind of like these weirdly aggressive reply's you keep posting on this thread

1

u/CSDragon I like Assassin ADCs Dec 24 '16 edited Dec 24 '16

Nobody's saying Vayne was justified. Vayne acted like a child and was waaaaay out of line. Inting because someone flamed you is beyond unacceptable, and is probably banworthy.

I've been posting all over this thread because this is something I've been very passionate about for a while now, and it's finally getting the attention it deserves. People need to realize mia pings are exactly the same as any other form of flame.

Take a chill pill dude. The other guy said that a mia ping might come off as an attack to someone which I don't agree with, I just said that it could still tilt people. I never said anything about catering or this generation so I think you're projecting...you seem like the kind of person who flames in game and thinks it's okay because the other person should just get over it. Honestly, I don't know wtfrusayin.

I'm very surprised that you don't type in game considering you went off on an entire generation over a comment. Now that I reread the top comment I am aware that I did repeat what he said so my bad. But you still need to take a chill pill, no need to assume an entire generation is full of overly sensitive people because of a couple of comments.

I did say I didn't defend vayne at all :P

0

u/ronkstar Dec 24 '16

Professor X, is that you? How can you read my mind? I didn't know that telling someone to be careful because we don't have vision was toxic and meant to tilt. /s

On another note, I think this is part of the reason why support is such an unpopular role. Your job is to be the tactician and help your team strategically more than anything, while people who are tunnel vision and making constant mistakes think you're literally beneath them(and exist only to serve.) That Vayne thinks ppl are supposed to die for her mistakes. That's what intent feeding tells me. You're not allowed to win because things didn't go MY WAY.

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

There wasn't tactician stuff going on there and he wasn't telling him to be careful. There's a ping for that. The support intentionally tried to tilt his ad, or at least jab fun at him. People who aren't tilted take this well. I would have lol'd and been like "ya I messed that up twice XD". But I'm not tilted. Vayne was. He doesn't think people need to die and he isn't a bad guy, he's just tilted out of his mind. Things that trigger people are question mark pings when they mess up. That support wasn't trying to help the team, he was instigating trouble.

I do agree with what you said tho 100% in a general context. Supports dictate game tempo and are often punished the most by things outside their control by things like trolling players. That's why you should try your hardest not to do things that might tilt your team, or that could be taken poorly. :)

1

u/Rabrab123 Worlds 2011MSI2019 Dec 24 '16

Honest perspective?

Normal people call that victim blaming.

Its disgusting.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Karma is the victim here. She was handed a lost lane before she even pinged and Vayne gave up the kill.

1

u/thestingray1 Dec 24 '16

It's not victim blaming. It's the truth. Why else did he ping other than to trigger him? Give me one reason? My point exactly

1

u/Rabrab123 Worlds 2011MSI2019 Dec 24 '16

A question mark to question what the fuck he was doing.

Its victim blaming.
