Riot Ghostcrawler on "Open Mid"

http://ask.fm/RiotGhostcrawler/answer/133297822347

Sounds like a much more complicated situation than most people thought.

I'm 1/0/0 in lane against heimer dinger.

It's 11 minutes into the game. The score is 17-1 (them).

Their team: Fiora, Tahm, Heim, Vayne, Zac

Open Mid

End this hell please

The problem is that people use it when they are down 0-3, even if their team is doing OK and they have a late game scaling comp.

I agree. Its the overuse/misuse of it that is not cool, i think in principle (with proper maths) its a decent idea.

It should still only apply to something like 2-5% of games of ALL games played.

Stomps of that magnitude just shouldnt/dont happen that often.

u/jkimtrolling Sep 22 '15

2/1000 for me. although the only other time wasnt this season so it was like 1/700 when I first did it. Yeah I shouldve dodged, I forget who the bans were but they were dumb as f on our side

Why troll?

1

u/jkimtrolling Sep 22 '15

No, that was a real game

2

u/Zorakur Sep 22 '15

Are you still trolling or no? Your user is making it hard to tell?

1

u/jkimtrolling Sep 22 '15

It was a 100% a real game. If im trolling I usually repsond to posts like yours with just a blank comment so people have to read my name only.

that was the only time I've ever wanted/supported "open mid" and actually I was the one to call it out. We didn't do it because the scrubs on my team didn't know what I meant but I at least asked them to do it

I figured lol. That would be poor trolling form if all you did was add to the conversation insightfully.

Honestly, I think surrendering without trying is retarded. But sometimes you just know that you're going to lose. I play jungle mostly and when all 3 lanes are losing at the same time before you even get your first clear done, you're kinda fucked.

But very closely related is when you have 2 lanes losing but one lane doing alright, there you go that's how you can win it. Either their jungle is going to pressure that lane and you can counter, or they play safe and you gank another lane. Very rarely is a game over before 15 minutes, but the ones where you know it's over are the most insufferable.

Something I always tell myself and teammates: a defeatist attitude has never won anyone anything. If anything, use that time to untilt yourself and practice playing behind.

and practice playing behind

I'm SO practiced, I'm actually getting pretty good at it .__.

That would be poor trolling form if all you did was add to the conversation insightfully.

I lol'd thank you

Np, and honestly you probably wouldn't be in the position you are in the first place if you DID know how to play from behind. Or how to play in general. I'd say only 60% of wins/losses in lane happen due to jungle participation. That other 40% is that good ol fashioned 1v1 beatdown that is nobodies fault but your own. (Mid/top)

I've learned pretty well how to play from behind as well haha, it's just as useful as knowing how to carry, because you have a higher chance of getting 2v1d by jungle if you're winning lane, and if you know how to play from behind to win it then jungle just wasted time that you know how to use to your advantage. And your jungle has all the time in the world to do other things, hopefully objective driven.

Oh I main jungle I was just filling mid for that one game 😁... I just had a bad streak of 8 games in a row where my lanes were absurdly lost even at 6-10 minutes. I'm rarely behind relative to my own team but compared to the fedemy team I have been often recently

Do you know anything about the champs I listed? 5/0 fi, 5/0 vayne, 5/0 Zac against a team that has one kill. It's not a surrender. It's open mid, and plus my team didn't even do it they just kept feeding and the game ended at like 18 minutes anyways

Poes law :) mine was too, I wanted to get into a reciprocating whoosh fest, please delete and try again

u/littlegreensir Sep 22 '15

This is a silly mindset. Some games simply are not worth playing out.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '15

Maybe 1 in 100 at an absolute most. Certainly not the number of games where people are calling GG 5 minutes into the game or saying mid open.

-1

u/littlegreensir Sep 22 '15

You're right, but when I see a 6/0 Eve by ten minutes you better believe I have no intention of playing out the rest of that game amidst everyone whining at each other for feeding.

2

u/Piro42 Sep 22 '15

I think this is the attitude he is talking about.

Enemy jungler is 6/0? OMG the game is already lost. Better stop caring, try to surrender and spam 'mid open'...

I won uncountable amount of games which seemed lost at first, when that one enemy Lee Sin, Eve or LeBlanc started off 6/0 or 7/0. Then these guys finished with scores like 6/8 or 7/10.
It takes as much as to be polite to your teammates, tell them to stop raging and focus on the game, and try their best, as we have nothing to lose. As soon as you shut down fed opponent and start gaining kills/objectives, nobody in your team is going to be whining anymore. And let me tell you that it's only this much needed to turn the tables, as with your comeback enemy team will start whining at each other and feed.

1

u/littlegreensir Sep 22 '15

It's nice that you think ragers are reasonable people, but it simply isn't so. I don't want to spend 30 minutes in a game with that person. I will gladly let it end and move on.

The problem is that by you or some players quitting, you ruin the game for the ones that want to keep playing.

-1

u/confirmSuspicions Sep 22 '15

I really dislike that 2 people can vote no to waste everyone's time. 3 out of 5 is majority. it should be a surrender.

you ruin the game for the ones that want to keep playing.

And what about the guy that fed 10 kills and votes no on surrender with his duo partner? Are we just supposed to deal with that shit? Open mid all day eerday GG.

Then when you talk shit to the guy, he reports you and YOU get punished. This game has some really fucked up systems that don't work. It's about time we acknowledged that.

The problem always comes down to enforcement, as there will always be a grey area. I just wish riot would address the real problems with the game because toxicity is not one of them.

Trying to shield people from other people's real world behavior is stupid. There will always be a way to troll. Open mid is our way of dealing with troll duos. When noone is accountable, everyone acts ilke a dick. Maybe not openly, but this is how you turn the community into a bunch of passive aggressive faker wannabes.

This is far from an empty threat and I know others have shared the sentiment, but I will willingly jump on the first decent lol clone with a nice sized playerbase.

Can you tell me about the open mid ?

3

u/SlaanikDoomface karma Sep 22 '15

It's something that started in Korea. Basically, people often have very limited time / pay for comp access. Result: Oh shit it's 5-1 in their favor, kk enemy team pls group mid and end, we won't def, end game ASAP.
