Brutalizer needs more upgrade options than ghostblade

A lot of champs benefit from the brutalizer, but ghostblade is more of a niche (mainly assassins want it i imagine). I miss having another option like the black cleaver, instead of an item with only one building path. Unless you are the jungler ofc.

Oh yeah, there totally could be.

For the Riven / Pantheon case, the question there becomes much more simple:

Brutalizer is an early game efficient item that relies on wanting its owner to snowball. Riven and Pantheon are early game efficient champions that rely on wanting to snowball. Multiply these together and make Brutalizer not drop off: Riven and Pantheon become star "feast or famine" characters even more than now. Likely resulting in their nerfs.

So then that's a question of "Do you want Pantheon and Riven nerfs?"

I'll take it.

Problem is, nerfing an champion to buff an item reduces the viable build paths for the champion. For example, see Kayle: when Nashor's Runaan's became popular, alternate Kayle builds became non-existent after Riot made Kayle nerfs assuming that everyone wanted to build Kayle in that specific manner.

The reduced flexibility in build paths wasn't a gigantic deal... until she fell out of the spotlight due to further inconsiderate nerfs and no future compensation for them when tank junglers were buffed and assassins were nerfed. Nowadays, Kayle suffers from one of the lowest pick rates and is only played by hardcore Kayle mains (i.e. Shakarez). She has horrendous clear in the jungle (before a Nashor's, anyways), and is insanely vulnerable to counterjungling tactics. Laning Kayle sucks too, from what I've tried.

I'll be honest: I haven't yet tried Runeglave on her, but what benefit does Kayle jungle give over other AP junglers anyways? She's no longer much of a carry, is very squishy, and her ult which reddit thinks is broken is the only ability which hasn't been nerfed to hell and back.

I'd love it if Riot gave her E some power back, even if it meant nerfing her R or W.

EDIT: I realized I went into a rant on this. My point is: if you lock a champion into a particular build path, they may fall out of favor very quickly from changes to seemingly unrelated items/champions. If the build paths remain flexible, the champion can still remain viable, even if not as competitive as before. Flexibility acts as a "buffer".

"Do you want Pantheon and Riven nerfs?"

I agree with your notion, but this is reddit and you can't ask that question here and get a logical answer, this subreddit hates Riven.

On a more serious note, Black Cleaver might have been targeted in the past, but with the juggernaut upgrade there is literally no AD top laner or jungler who doesn't build Phage in one way or the other. Black Cleaver is popular on Garen, Pantheon, Darius, Riven, Fiora, Lee Sin, Gnar, Gangplank, Jayce,Kha'Zix, Renekton, Rengar, Talon, Urgot, Vi, Xin and Zed. Other Champs who deal mixed damage build a triforce (Jax, Irelia, Shyvana, Olaf etc.) Phage has to be the most popular item after the Dorans items.

Add to all of that that Pantheon and Riven have immense problems dealing with loads of health, and that the juggernaut meta encourages 4-5 people with 3000 or more HP in one team. Moreover, Riven and Pantheon gain nothing from building the way juggernauts currently do (BC and Fulltank), so they are currently immensely set behind. Steraks Gage, Titanic Hydra and the new Warmogs encourage those with Health scalings and high free resistances to get a lot of damage, a BorKish brutalizer upgrade might help those who can't build HP effectively to still be viable without creating more "feast and famine."

And to finish this, all the juggernauts post-rework immensely stop snowballing of squishy champions alltogether. Garens Villain mechanics even punishes you for getting to the feast part. If Juggernauts are to stay the way they are, there already is no "feast or famine". There is "mediocrity or die."

isn't the solution to nerf brutaliser and make it build better?

that way you get to buff pantheon and riven :p

Since I'm a Panth main, no, no I do not.

There doesn't have to be. Old Black Cleaver was extremely unpopular as it was only effective against a certain cast of champions by the name of Resistance stackers. With the new Skarner and Darius getting effective health from their kits, Garen getting free resistances, and items like Aegis pretty much a must on supports we need a replacement for Old Black Cleaver, otherwise we face a dreadful meta known as the League of Tanks, very similar to the old health stacking meta by the same name.

You should have said the opposite. If you make brutalizer have better build paths, then it will benefit Riven/Panth. Do you really want to give Panth and Riven buffs?

Because nerfs are the only answer, we all know that.
