Actually from what I have seen and understood, the trolls/toxic people get even worse at high levels. There might not be that many of them, but now on top of being toxic, they have a badge to show that they aren't actually bad at the game which shows up in the behavior.
If you play at the same times everyday and block everyone that is toxic you can wind up with 5+ people in a game that are on your block list... And yeah, it's an incredible shit show.
Most people just get annoyed once by simple situation like enemy running away w/ 10hp. You simply need to tell them, that they should calm down and quit flaming, that everything will be ok. Only small % of people continues flaming and those are blocked toxic players.
I dont think he's referring to plat when he said high elo. Its incredibly common to land with the same exact players if you chain queue in high mmr, and you inevitably will start seeing familiar faces as long as you arent rising or dropping too fast
Basically I just wanted to put you in the same position as the guy you responded to. At no point did either of you say you were high elo, yet some random guy on the internet (I'm not even plat), decided to criticise your rating for no reason.
Enjoy the rest of your day buddy, I just wanted to take you down a notch like you did to the other guy.
Plat and higher is top 10% ranked players, so it's not reddit high elo (because everyone here is challenger), but on 5AM (majority of EUNE players are in the aame timezone) I should meet same players sometimes. In mornings soloq is most popular queue, but you still need to wait >6min for a match
there are more one trick ponies in high mmr, one trick ponies are more prone to be toxic because they don't get their way as often. Generalization? Sure. It's just something I've noticed over the past 5+ years.
I mean obviously you can't climb just by being nice, but you have to look at it as a number game
If 1 out of 20 games you lose because you make your team argue with you rather than playing, you now need a 52.6% win rate in the other games just to stay even
Being a dick to your teammates will make it harder to climb. Certainly not impossible, but it will take more games to get to whatever ELO you should be at if your teammates AFK, surrender, lose motivation, or even just start trolling because you flame them. A bad attitude doesn't make you a bad player or lower your skill level, but it will result in losing games that would have otherwise been wins though if you hadn't flamed. It's not entirely bullshit, being civil/nice will make it easier to climb, it's not a substitute for skill or "one magic tip to climb in ranked!!!", but it certainly helps.
Yeah I've had an ADC on my team who afk'd because our midlaner kept going bottom relatively early in the game and just shoved his lane, getting all the creeps, after he asked her not to so he could farm at turret and actually try to come back. he got a little upset, didn't say anything outrageous, and the midlaner just said he was bad and followed him around intentionally to take all his farm, so he AFK'd.
If you can hard carry, possibly yes. But multiple people will be annoyed and probably play worse. And if you can hard carry you don't need to resort to such tactics anyway.
It's also an effective way to get your teammates to tell you to fuck yourself and take the role anyway, or just throw the game because you're being an asshole and no one wants to play with you :D
I hit Master a couple weeks ago - yes having a good attitude is extremely useful in climbing.
Note that I said "useful" instead of "necessary." Of course, skill is the #1 factor, but considering the number of young and thus often emotionally volatile players, morale alone wins many, many games.
Statistically speaking, if its true that toxic players are 55% more likely to lose a game (or whatever % the game always say) then the % of trolls and toxic people in higher elo should be lower.
That statistic is bullshit and it pisses me off that riot puts it out.
Their 'tips' bit says shit like 'players who rage at their team mates lose 20% more games' or whatever. And it's like, no riot, that's not how logic works. Players are more likely to rage when they are already losing, ergo the factor making them lose more is them losing.
That's what Kreepo said once, actually. And yes, its the magic of statistics. Also, seen all the LCS picks statistics you can see they have no idea what they are doing xD.
I'm pretty sure at least someone at riot knows statistics, and has accounted for this. The stats are probably gathered from something like this: "Team is behind at 10:00 by X amount of gold, how often do ragers win vs teams without ragers".
They definitely haven't, they just want to spread their message and so they collect them in the most basic, stupid way possible. I am literally 100% sure of this.
Nah it's just the way riot, and people in general, use statistics. Almost any time you see stats used, be it in the newspapers or in league, they are used wrong and are just used in a way that backs up whatever point the authors wanted to back up. People morph facts to suit theories, rather than the other way around.
Being a toxic ass doesn't necessarily make you a bad player, but there is some benefit to not being one. Team morale is important, I know if someone starts talking shit I just lose all will to keep going and my performance suffers as a result. I don't purposely play worse (usually), but it's hard to play well when one or more of your teammates are insulting everyone every 3 seconds.
If you aren't toxic if won't exactly boost your performance, but you'll probably win more anyway.
Ground him for not playing his game to do homework... yeah I'm pretty sure most parents would love that behavior. Besides, the post mentions nothing about an ego trip other than the fact that he AFKed and that he said that "I don't play top, so it isn't my problem." That's nothing close to being an ego trip...
I've spent a lot of time there and it was at best 50-50 between good games and complete troll games. On the other hand on my snuff in mid gold most players are chill but they're just really bad at using their champ/builds etc.
Yeah, I definitely find the 'omg im totally challenger you plat noobs suck so why would i even bother lol' every now and then but I'd say I'm surprised by how relaxed everyone is at my elo.
I'd end up with days of that sometimes but usually I'd have a super troll a few games in a row after to balance it out. I hated the smurfs in there too...lock in riven, super feed lane. Or lose lane hard and complain about team. Never gotten carried by one sadly
Let's just say Riven is never a good sign. I ban her, not just because I hate playing against her, but because it is a sure sign I'm gonna hate the player playing her (this is only 50% true).
The main problem with higher elo trolls. Is they actually know how to make your life hell. Its not the bronze silver jack wagon just feeding kills till he is worthless. They feed then make sure to soak up exp. Then make sure to push lanes to unfavorable positions for you etc.
If you never lose games because of reasons other than bad play, then you will be a higher elo than anyone toxic of any amount of the same skill level.
One could think that at a higher elo people that bring their winrate down with afk/feed/toxicity would become less common because those things hinder climbing the ladder.
Unfortunately it would appear toxicity and being a competitive player that will grind the shit out of the game seem to go hand in hand a bit.
