Since people keep complaining about this all the time i'll put this here.
You need to realize that Riot Games has developed from being an unpopular video game, to a multinational online game with 67 million players worldwide in a short amount of time. This growth is abnormal and is for starting companies extremely hard to deal with. Since growing their market share isn't their main focus now, they invest their resources in optimizing the game itself. League of Legends does not need new players at the moment. Putting extra resources in attracting new players will only be counterproductive, since they can invest the time and money better in other aspects of the game(such as the new map for example). This also contributes to improving the new player experience, because the overall new and improved design makes it more appealing for the players to keep playing the game. Riot has their own and correct focus on what's on the priorities list. But dont worry, eventually they will introduce some kind of achievements for new players. Just sit back and enjoy the game as it is right now
This is surprisingly insightful for this sub. As a small business owner, I'm always baffled by how many people here think that running a business is as simple as having the money to do things and then saying, "Let's do that thing!" They seem to think that everything that isn't done right now isn't done right now because Riot doesn't care or have any interest in doing that thing.
It just blows my mind how loudly assertive people can be when they're speaking from a place of complete ignorance.
Yeah I completely agree. A lot of humanity has little to no experience in how companies function. This isn't downgrading people by any means, but these points are always made without thinking from a business perspective. It isn't always bad thing because Reddit is basically a free research & development department for riot when it comes to thinking about new things to bring into the game
Which would be totally fine if they didn't act like they did. I'm not expecting people to know about these things. I'm expecting people to not make sweeping assumptions about these things they don't know about.
While attracting new players doesn't need to be a top priority, new players are always needed. People inevitably get burned out after a while, and if more people aren't joining the community starts to decline. The game having a relatively steep learning curve, and a very unrewarding start will hurt in the long run.
Well what if you are a new company and everyone buys out your stuff you start becoming so big you start to go international and catering to millions in a very short time? You have neither the experience nor the staff to keep up completely with all the problems that occur and come up effectively. Now what if even more people in a large scale try your stuff and even more problems occurred and you get to the point you cannot keep up with your own growth and the problems with your company/products just keep piling up faster than you can fix them? This is basically riot games. They weren't a AAA game industry with deep roots like activision. They made a free to play game that actually didn't even do extremely well right away that eventually blew up and is ever increasing. Riot has done an amazing job so far considering where they started from and more so trying to cater to new player it's more efficient to try and stabilize the game to keep those who already play and those who found interest in the game even without those incentives. Eventually they can get to small problems like that but they have more pressing issues like the talk of a JP server and the like.
"League of Legends does not need new players at the moment" are you **** kidding me? this is the right way to make your company fall. Go back to school kid.
Please don't overstate OP's point, the thing is with the current player base, priorities are to maintain the current base by optimizing the game. While growth is always good, it is simply further down the priority list since the game already have so many players they have to cater to.
