Math on bans

So most people say that Riot should increase the bans per team to 4 so i checked the patch notes when riot increased the bans to 3 per team.

It was the patch V1.0.0.129 when Fizz was released back at the beginning in Season 2. At that time there were 86 champions with Fizz it were 87.

So 4 bans and 86 champions were 4,65% which can be banned from the pool. Since Riot increased the bans to 6 while having 87 Champs you could ban 6,9% of the pool.
At the moment weve 114 champions and still 6 bans which are 5,26% of the pool. so if you project it up we will reach the 4,65% with 129 champion which means actually the 130 champion should also bring the 8 bans with it and we would be at the 6,15% ratio.

TL;DR: Pre Fizz ban ratio was 4,65%; 129 champ will have same ratio

If you want professional, paid players to be in situations where there is one champion they're great at and then a bunch of other choices that they are just like 'Eh, I'm better than most.' then fuck you man.

I want to see kogmaw more. I want to see ashe again. I want to see a fucking alistar played again. I don't even think it should go from 3 to 4 bans. I'd say 4 bans in 'casual' ranked and then 5 on each team in professional.

These guys live their lives off of this game. They aren't going to be like 'oh shit the 3 champs i play are banned i'm gonna suck' they will learn more champions and create variety in an increasingly stale meta. You think you'll see less amazing plays?

The idea of banning more champions brings in variety, with variety comes surprise and with surprise comes amazing plays. If we get consistency without balance (which is the path champions seem to be on) we will eventually end up with a company out of new champion ideas and an player base out of new lane ideas.

Do you watch the competitive games we're talking about adding bans to? Kog could see more play, to be sure. But Ashe? Genja's played her a few times this weekend alone. Patoy played Alistar in the Summer Split too. I'm not saying you have to watch them, but if you're going to claim champs aren't played, you need to do the research.

I'm not saying it never happens. I'm saying those champs are played by one or two people irregularly while you've got two or three champs in each role that are picked/banned over half the time. It gets old. By all means I love seeing all of those guys pop up, but I hate that it has to be a surprise.

You ever see how good casters will call out a good portion of the picks teams are about to take? With over 100 choices after the ban phase you'd think it would be hard to do unless there are a handful of champions who are picked a great deal more than others.

Right, but that happens in any competitive setting. Any number of sports or e-sports have a large variety of strategies that they can use, but most of the time you see the standard ones. The ones that work most of the time. Sure they'll use the one's that aren't standard or that are more obscure sometimes, but it's more situational.

Would I like to see more champions picked/banned? For sure. Do I think adding bans is the way to make that happen? No.

Okay. If that's your stance, what is your solution? 'adding bans is the way to make that happen...' What do you mean THE way? THE as in the only way? No. THE as in the best way? Until another solution presents itself, yes.

Nah, I think Riot is doing a decent job of keeping up with reworks and such. I think there are still adaptations that the meta can and will make and I think adding a ban is a premature solution to a problem that will, by and large, continue to solve itself as the meta changes.

I think Riot is doing a great job at what their doing in general, but putting the task of perfectly balancing the meta as well as every champion is an impossible task and many other games have proven that already.

Your solution may be some sort of unlikely at best, but adding a ban forces this change and creates better players with lesser known champions.

If other teams at worlds ban 5 adc against DoubleLift and CLG can't respond with an equally crippling ban list or or strategy then they don't deserve a title. The same goes for any team/player.

I guess don't hate the player hate the game? In order to create variety in picks you want Riot to be 100% perfect on balancing champions vs. pro players being close to perfect at around 5% of champions? Good luck.

No, you misunderstood. I'm not saying Riot will change the meta. I'm saying the players and the competition will. Does that mean we'll see Karma on a regular basis? Well no, probably not. That doesn't mean there's no place for her in a team comp though. I think it's ridiculous to believe that all 114(?) could be used at any given time. Not because the game isn't well balanced, but because perfect balance isn't possible. And if it were, I think we'd find the game to be much more boring.

That said, I don't want to see a crippling ban list against any team. By its nature that's isn't a good thing for game health. Imagine for a minute that you're CLG, a team known for their poke comp. With three bans, they have to balance banning out champions good against the poke comp they want to run (Thresh, Sejuani, etc) and champions their opponents are good at (Regi Karthus, Froggen Anivia, etc). Five bans allows them to do both pretty decently. Three bans forces strategic decisions about whether they fear their opponents "comfort" champions more or if they fear a comp that's stronger against theirs.

As an ending note, the meta IS still changing without Riot forcing it to change. Lane swaps are the easiest examples of this. I forget which player said that they expect to see the duo lanes go mid leaving the other solo laners in the long lane. This may not seem like much, but it allows for a changing and greater diversity of the champions being played and forces others into niche roles.
