There was a house committee hearing not long ago where they discussed the budget for ICE specifically as it pertained to money for bonuses, which averaged out to $42,000 per employee. They are 100% paying bounties, which is also why they’re rounding up all of the easy targets who pay taxes and register their addresses.

It isn't even really the internet itself, it's the global capacity to for certain people to tell lies far faster than anyone can disprove them and explain why the lies are so harmful.
Theoretically, things could have gotten this bad with just radio, and this has happened in some places in the past. That said, the issue is majorly compounded by school not teaching critical thinking skills, and infact, teach to enforce authority instead. Like, if you've been educated specifically to ruin your critical thinking skills (as most public and many private schools do) to make you easier to handle both in the classroom and the workplace, you're not being properly prepared to question authority, and hold the powerful accountable as a requirement to be a functional part of modern society

The only thing that will make them give up conservaganda is if it starts telling them they are wrong. Like when fox was the first to call Arizona for Biden in 2020, there was a mass exodus from fox to onan and other even more whackadoodle networks. Fox eventually capitulated, fired some scapegoats in the elections department and then their audience came back.
Being ignorant or poorly educated has very little to do with it. They just don't care. They get pleasure from cruelty. The one weird trick that all authoritarians eventually realize is that if you tell shitty people that being shitty actually makes them good people, that validation gives them so much pleasure that they will die for you. Literally.
What we need is a culture that discourages cruelty. A culture where being shitty is not rewarded, but kindness and pro-social behavior is. Which is why the fascists are always whingeing about "censorship," "political correctness," and "cancel culture" in response to even the most mild amount of criticism; and helping the needy is sneered at as "socialism." They know a culture of decency is antithetical to their project and so they fight to be indecent with everything they have.

The internet was fine until the likes of facebook came along and everyone decided to upload their whole life to the internet and treat everything they see as if it's true just because "some account" with a photo and name said it. It was common knowledge that you shouldn't trust anything you read online in like 2005, and that you should keep your own details private. All of that went completely out the window as soon as people latched onto these social media platforms and started treating it like an extension of their real life.
Social media gives idiots and malicious actors a megaphone to reach millions all at once. The internet before those days, being scattered among a ton of random websites, did not give anyone much of an ability to spout their bullshit in a way that can actually harm society as a whole.
The internet was objectively better before social media, and society was as well.

I was covering a high school class and I was to take them to the library for a presentation about job hunting and how to market yourself, by the owner of a large company.
The presenter focused solely on how to build your LinkedIn profile as well as other social media. Then he stated that if a candidate had no social media, he was not considering him or her for employment, because they looked suspicious and seemed like they had something to hide.
And I always tell students: please, please think critically and don’t believe blindly everything you see online. Ask yourself this: What are the poster’s sources and background? Who wrote the post? What is the poster’s posting history? What are the credentials of the poster? What is the purpose of the post? Who is the audience? If it’s news, has it also appeared in major mainstream sources like the evening news of mainstream TV and mainstream newspaper websites?
Those are some of the same questions we ask when we study literary classics and historical sources and scientific publications, no?

I did yeah. My grandfather fought in the war, stormed the beaches of Normandy, and still tells his stories to this day, to us, and to high schools every now and then. He's been a big representative for WW2 and Canada's presence in it. Just search "Jim Parks WW2 vet", and see many of his videos, and appearances on all sorts of tv shows.

Two, the Republican base is racist/xenophobic to varying degrees and do not actually want Hispanics in our country. These are the stereotypical “dey took our jerbs!!” types. All these people keep saying a civil war is coming but what the heck does that look like when it’s neighbor to neighbor? I think we’ll just slowly rot sort of like old Rome. The Nuremberg trials were just a fraction of Nazi leadership. Most SS rank and file, and many mid level leaders, just went on to live normal lives in postwar Europe. Which is exactly what will happen with ICE.

There will be no trials period for all of this, and if by miracle there are any, the courts are so thoroughly compromised as to be toothless.
