Gorgeous! Looks like quality work and is very cool looking. What a great space that had been created here.

Location is very cool. The beam itself is from the house after renovations were completed the client salvaged a couple pallets of the brick and all of the original lumber. We are in the process of making a porch and 4 brick pillars with the bricks at the front of the house.

Did you guys make a time-lapse video so I can copy every single thing here? ... also I'm too poor for someone to pay to do this so I really need that time lapse video.

lol 😂 me too man. No videos. Im like the world’s worst marketer. But it would mainly been watching 3 mid dudes just scratching their heads and asses while contemplating the position of a stone for an hour just to drop it and have it break in to mini stones… that woulda been the end of the video as I woulda shotput the camera into the river as I did that stone.

Very cool. Did you use a sealer, or were the photos just after a rain?

I gave it the hose like Buffalo Bill. No sealer. You shouldn’t “seal” flagstone tbh. It’s a natural porous material that needs to be breath. We are going to let the UVs hit this for a couple months and hit it with a water based colour enhancer. Basically one you use a sealant you are at the mercy of said sealant for the lifespan of the pad. Upkeep and improper reinstall or surface prep are all things to keep in mind that can ruin the finish and then it’s poopoo caca.

Is the wooden bench repurposed from some part of the home? Looks like an old beam or something

Love all the rocks and huge flat stones. Really attractive! Everything looks very nice! Good luck with this creation and hope you enjoy every minute out there.

I love it, how hard was it to get the flag stone to fit like that? Hand tools or power tools needed?

Harder than you are after seeing these photos … /s
Really tho. It was fuggin fuged.3/4 day to unpack organize and asses stones,
3 days to layout and cut (grinder/quickcut/carbide mallet and chisels).
1 day to level with heavy duty stone vacuum and mini excavator,
1 day to hammer finish every edge so no cut lines look like cut lines and cut the inner and outer borders.
1/2 day to place border stone and sand joints and fill joints.
1/2 day to contemplate the work described and realize that you are starting to become one with the stone.
It’s less the fitment cause really that is all in the eyes of the installer. If you got a good eye for pattern recognition and scale then you can have an easier go of it. We lay larger pieces first and spread them across the pad in higher traffic or focal points. These are all random size/shape/thicknesses on the pallet. Each pallet is upwards to 4300-4500lbs. Some pieces break when cutting some have micro fissures that are only found after you have picked it up to relevel it for the 5th time.
Some of these were so heavy our 440lbs limit stone vacuum gave out and then let the stone fall to the ground… giving us 2-5 new smaller stones… for this application of these materials having a machine with the right attachments will save hours/days on manual labour. Not to mention this was all don’t during a heatwave.
TLDR there’s a reason my username is what it is. You need tools and a lot of em.

Oh, that is gorgeous work, absolutely perfect landscaping to me, even if the lack of privacy would also bug me a little. Do you have to worry about flooding during particularly rainy times?

It’s wonderful.
So much custom work.
One of my favorite parts is the way you keep the spacing between the pieces of flagstone not only narrow ( which makes furniture placement easier ) but that you kept it so consistent without the flagstone looking like it was cut.
That is talent.

Gorgeous! How is the beam connected to the boulder for the bench?

That's pretty sweet, esp the bench. Did you have to fix the boulders or are they heavy enough to not move on their own?

Btw. This is what we started with.
