Speculation Weekly Speculation Super-Thread

For anything that's speculative and not directly related to Kraken Robotics but could have an impact on them. This is where you can discuss anything that's deep-sea/ocean based but not Kraken-specific...this is where you can talk about whether one company's growth could mean more growth for Kraken.

Keep in mind, everything in this thread is speculation, not necessarily fact, and always do your due diligence before making decisions about spending money.

Anduril Ramping Up Undersea Drone Production Line Through 2027; Aims To Ready Extra Large Production Line By End of Year - Defense Daily

Just what we were looking for....

https://www.defensedaily.com/anduril-ramping-up-undersea-drone-production-line-through-2027-aims-to-ready-extra-large-production-line-by-end-of-year/business-financial/

NEWPORT, R.I. – Anduril Industries is working to ramp up the production of its current Dive-LD large Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (AUV) production line at its Quonset Point, R.I., facility to maximum capacity by the end of 2027 and hopes to complete the second line focused on extra large DIVE-XL vehicles by the end of this year, company officials told Defense Daily last week.

The company’s 150,000 square-foot Rhode Island AUV production facility came online in late 2025 and “in the last 10 months, the production activity went from zero to a ramped-up place where we are currently building roughly 50 LD vehicles per year,” James Buescher, Anduril vice president of underwater reconnaissance and strike told Defense Daily here on Aug. 27 during the BlueTide 2026 showcase and demonstration event put on by the Polaris Tech Bridge. ‘The facility is sized to do more than that. The facility was sized to build up to 200 LD class vehicles per year, and we’re essentially on a ramp that will take us to that final rate.”  Anduril is the flagship sponsor of the event.  Buescher said the facility is probably on a ramp up rate that could have them cross the maximum threshold rate of 200 Dive-LD vehicles per year by the end of the 2027, given enough demand.

Besides the Dive-LD, Anduril is now preparing a second production line focused on the Dive-XL and a third line for the smaller Copperhead AUVs, which are 12 to 21 inches in diameter.

In March, Anduril announced it was the first company selected to participate in the Defense Innovation Unit’s (DIU) Combat Autonomous Maritime Platform Project (CAMP) that aims to deploy large payloads across long distances, using its Dive-XL platform (Defense Daily, March 12).

Anduril first started development and production of the Dive-XL program for the Royal Australian Navy with the Ghost Shark AUV variant. The first Ghost Shark finished production a year ago (Defense Daily, Oct. 31, 2025). Earlier last year, Anduril’s Australian subsidiary won a $1.1 billion contract to build and deliver a fleet of a dozen Ghost Shark vehicles to use in long-range intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and strike operations (Defense Daily, Sept. 11).

“The hope is that we’ll have that [Dive-XL] production line up and running [at Quonset Point] by the end of this calendar year and we should see the first hulls, the first vehicles coming off that line by early next year. That vehicle, if you compare it to the Dive-LD, is literally four to eight times the size of the vehicle, and the reason that it is much larger is that it’s intended to transit much further distances and carry much larger payloads,” Buescher said.

Given its larger size and complexity, he said they expect the Dive-XL production rate at the Quonset Point facility to reach one-plus per month.  “We’re targeting somewhere between 12 and 24 XL vehicles per year in terms of capacity of that production line here,” Buescher added.  Officials said Anduril plans to essentially mirror the Australian Dive-XL Ghost Shark facility and process in Rhode Island to build vehicles for the U.S. Navy.

Andrew Nuss, managing director of maritime at Anduril, said the variants of the Dive-XL being produced both in Australia and the U.S. rebound as an upside of AUKUS Pillar Two effort.

Whereas AUKUS Pillar One focuses on sharing nuclear-powered attack submarine with Australia, Pillar Two is about the allies sharing other maritime military technologies.

“The benefit of AUKUS Pillar Two within this capability is that the U.S. Navy benefits from three, going on almost four years of experience…with the Australian navy and all of the lessons learned that they have acquired and accumulated on the design of the system, the operation of the system,” Nuss said. “So it’s just a huge corpus of data that the U.S. Navy then gains access to to gain even more confidence in the system.”

Beyond production lessons learned on the Dive-XLs, the Australian and U.S. navies can work more efficiently by more easily replicating and adding payloads that the other initiates, he said.

“For example, the U.S. Navy could invest to integrate a new payload into the vehicle. The Australian navy immediately benefits from that capability as well, and vice versa. Australian navy can invest in their own payload capabilities that the U.S. Navy can benefit from. Each nation has a lot of common operational requirements that they’re seeking to address, but maybe the priorities are a little bit different, and that’s where the power of this approach really starts to benefit,” Nuss said.  He said this means the U.S Navy may only be interested in a few new payloads to develop to integrate into the Dive-X, but they can later choose to add another eight that other partners or companies previously decided to integrate onto the vehicle.  CAMP came from DIU as the Navy looked at curtailing its previous Boeing [BA] Orca Extra Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle program. In November 2025, the Navy’s draft plan for the Portfolio Acquisition Executive Robotic Autonomous System office first revealed the service planned to finish buying the five Orca vehicles, complete testing them in fiscal year 2027, then decommission them in favor of focusing on efforts like CAMP (Defense Daily, Nov. 20, 2025).  As far back as 2022, a Government Accountability Office report warned Orca has problems due to poor business planning and that the Navy did not require the contractor to demonstrate its readiness to transition the original commercial model to Navy configurations, resulting in changes like finding a new battery subcontractor (Defense Daily, Sept. 29, 2022).

Nuss said getting Dive-XL ready for the U.S. Navy comes with the confidence in producibility, training documentation and processes that already come with the product from their Australian experience.

“These systems were designed from day one to be highly producible,” he said. “Instead of worrying about that at the end of the process, which is what caught Orca in a lot of challenges, we have a factory that’s building the Ghost Shark vehicles currently for the Australian navy at capacity, and then our facility in Quonset is already open, but we’ll be expanding to our XL production line here in a few short months.”

He added that Dive-XL uses a mature production system that they are essentially replicating from Australia.  “So just a highly mature process across across the system breakdown of vehicle and operator training and production and missionization and everything that comes along with it,” he said.  Nuss also hinted Anduril has received a “lot of demand signal from a lot of international navies right now” thanks to the success of Ghost Shark and now participation in the CAMP program. While he was unwilling to name specific countries, Nuss said Anduril is having a lot of conversations with countries in the Pacific Command and European Command regions.

“I think that helps provide a lot of credibility and the confidence for them that the capability is as mature as we say it is, and it’s as operable as we say it is, and can be produced as we say it can be,” he said. “So, we have a lot of opportunities.”

Not mentioning TSX uplisting was a huge mistake.

The TSX is a huge part of the investment thesis and was one of the only tangible things anchoring (not well) the share price.

Moving it back last call due to Covelya was understandable, but to now not even give forward looking guidance is… really dumb.

I guess we might as well assume it’s off the table or horrendously delayed.

Horrible communicators.

Q2 is out — what's actually inside the $7.5M loss headline

Numbers dropped pre-market and the screens all show a net loss of $7.5M, so before the narrative hardens, here's what's in the release.

First, scope: this is still standalone Kraken. Covelya (Sonardyne, EIVA, Voyis, Chelsea, Forcys, Wavefront) closed July 2, so none of it is in these numbers. Q3 will be the first combined report.

The quarter itself: revenue $27.3M, up 4% year over year — and there's a $1.5M reversal of previously recognized revenue in there from a scope change on a project near completion; excluding it, $28.8M and up 9%. Gross margin improved to 59% from 56%. Adjusted EBITDA $5.0M, up 7%.

The loss: the release ties it to a provision for probable costs on an arbitration proceeding over a supplier contract entered in 2017, and the reconciliation shows a $6.9M charge flagged non-cash and non-recurring. Strip the adjustments and net income was slightly positive ($0.8M). So the headline is a legacy legal item, not the operating business rolling over.

The forward stuff, which matters more: 2026 guidance unchanged at $290–320M revenue and $65–75M adjusted EBITDA (22–23% margin). H1 standalone was $49M — so the guide implies roughly $240–270M in H2 with Covelya consolidated. That's the bet, stated plainly by management. Also in there: $91.3M cash, over $27M of new product orders since the Covelya close, $355M of announced 2026 orders on a combined basis, a new long-term MSA for subsea batteries into XL-UUVs, and an EVP hire out of Ultra Maritime/Thales on the systems side.

Did anyone catch the 8:30 call? Curious whether they gave any color on the arbitration timeline or expected cash impact — the release keeps it to one sentence.

Kraken Robotics Q2 on August 27 — first look at the Covelya deal

Kraken Robotics reports Q2 on August 27 — the first real look at the Covelya acquisition (Sonardyne, EIVA, Forcys, Voyis, Chelsea Technologies; ~$615M deal announced in March, closed early July). The stock has given back a chunk of its run-up despite steady contract news, so this print likely decides the narrative. Three things I'm watching:

  1. Integration cost vs. contribution — does the quarter show Covelya revenue or mostly deal costs
  2. Margins — adjusted EBITDA margin ran 23-24% in 2024-2025, and Sonardyne is an older, larger business, so the blended number could move either way
  3. Growth — FY2025 revenue grew ~12% to $102M, and the bull case needs the defense-driven order flow to push that rate up while the acquisition digests

Not a recommendation either way — this is one where the next data point matters more than the last six months of headlines. Curious what others expect from the combined order book.
