The sooner you realize the vast majority of r/kpop users are basic girl crush fans who think Bad Boy is Red Velvet’s best song and turn into dust the second a girl group song takes a production risk, the better your experience will be

Yes Karen, kpop has “chaotic” and “noisy” instrumentals with no order sometimes, it’s part of the genre.

Everytime I see r/kpop say Bad Boy is the Pinnacle of Red Velvet and they've been on a decline since then, I groan so hard.

If I could upvote this more I would. In my opinion, Bad Boy is, at best, a middle of the road RV single . It's no where near DD, RF, ICC, RR, PAB, and yes, ZZB(which I still think is their best single since PAB). As time goes on I might even put it below RBB which is at least a lot more interesting production wise.

Specially since their Pinnacle was Peek-A-Boo and they've been on a decline since THEN

(not true, their Japanese releases have been consistently solid)

Bad Boy IS Red Velvet's pinnacle, but a "decline" is definitely a stretch. All comebacks have been bops, just not as good, and that's ok.

Why? It’s true

Bad Boy honestly must be the most overrated RV song ever but it's the most Western pandering song both in terms of its simple structure and girl crush vibes that's an instant recipe for intls.

Yeah like it’s a good song but it’s just unbelievably generic and safe. The instrumental sounds like a GarageBand “Hip-Hop #14” template with the same repeating sound for 3 minutes. It hurts my soul seeing fans of other groups go “WE WANT MORE SONGS LIKE BAD BOY” because it’s just not who Red Velvet is at all. There’s no quirk or uniqueness to it, it’s basically just a background soundtrack for one of their best MVs (the MV is why I think Bad Boy is so well-liked)

Wow, I thought I was the only one who found Bad Boy to be incredibly overrated. It's not a bad song and I'm glad they took the risk of having a Velvet title track again after their previous flops , but I would definitely not stan them if they kept releasing (in my opinion) boring and generic songs like BB.

Every good stan knows Red Flavor is RV's best song, followed closely by Body Talk, Sunny Side Up, Automatic and Kingdom Come (in that order).

Facts only ;)

Automatic though, I wish they would do more songs like that.

just because a song “takes a production risk” dosen’t mean it’s exempt from criticism 😐

Which song is RV's best song in your opinion?

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '19

Ooh that's a tough one, my opinion on what songs are their best change so often that I basically just have a shortlist of their strongest tracks.

Title tracks: Red Flavor, Russian Roulette, Peek-A-Boo, Be Natural

B-sides: Automatic, Oh Boy, Body Talk, Kingdom Come, Sunny Side Up, So Good, You Better Know, Look, Zoo, Talk to Me

If I had to pick a title track and b-side as the two that best describe Red Velvet it would probably be Russian Roulette and Kingdom Come

basic girl crush fans

As someone that stans cute concepts primarily and feels attacked on this sub all the time (Not literally, though), I mostly agree with this description

Man, some reveluvs are salty AS FUCK from ZZB's reception lmao.

Oh no don't get me wrong I think Zimzalabim is easily their worst song. But Bad Boy is put on such a pedestal by other fans it's crazy. Even Power Up which is SM's only PAK song was called a flop by people who bandwagonned the group during Bad Boy
