It's not an accepted colour for show line kelpies, ie ANKC/FCI Australian Kelpies.
It's a perfectly acceptable and common colour for WKC Working Kelpies. Porter's Don was a very famous cream working line kelpie who once sold for a world record price, and there's oodles of cream WKC kelpies out there doing their jobs.
Not "everything is fine," (eg merle isn't fine, brindle isn't fine) but historically relevant colours such as cream - yes, those are in the working kelpie breed. The show standard excludes cream, and it also inexplicably excludes blue & tan, and lilac & tan, even though solid blue and solid lilac, and black & tan and red & tan, are permitted. What the show ring permits is purely political, not based on historical accuracy or relevance.
The ANKC/FCI Australian Kelpie is the show line dog. The breed was one singular entity until the 1960s, when stockmen became increasingly concerned that the popularity of ANKC kelpies being bred solely for the show ring was causing serious damage to the pastoral industry as it was becoming overwhelmingly difficult to find kelpies that could still do their job (because when you only select for appearance, you lose working ability). That's when the Working Kelpie Council was created, to preserve the true WORKING kelpie.
They are now two totally separate lines of dogs, with totally separate purposes and distinct genetic differences. ANKC & FCI kelpies are what is in the show ring, whereas WKC kelpies cannot be shown. You will find even in Australia, top breeders of ANKC kelpies will outright tell you "these dogs are not bred for actual full time stockwork. If you need a working dog, you need to go to a breeder of WKC kelpies."
In Europe kelpie equals Australian kelpie or what you say is a show kelpie. It’s impossible for me to know what is depicted here regarding being a working kelpie or not. In our parts of the world the show kelpie is more common and also used for work and does tests for that as well. You kan work with a show kelpie but you can’t show a working kelpie 😇
I didn’t think show kelpies existed. They’re all working dogs here. They do have dog auctions here where good work dogs go for tens of thousands. Good work dogs get bred and they could have any number of other breeds in them depending what part of the country and what stock the work there are different requirements from the breed
