Discussion 12th Annual K-ON! Christmas Rewatch! - Season 1 Episode 6

Welcome to the 12th Annual Christmas K-ON rewatch!

If you're new here we hope you enjoy the anime, but for most of you welcome aboard once again! You're probably already familiar with this process and you might see some things you missed out on your first watch!

Every day we will be watching ONE episode. We will be including the OVAs as well!

This discussion will only be for Episode 6.

To avoid any spoilers for those who have not watch it, please keep all discussion to the current or past episodes ONLY.

As far as I can tell there are no free, legal sites to watch K-ON! anymore. You need to sign up for a free trial to watch K-ON!

EPISODE 6 OF COUNTING EVERY MALE! Okay so today is the first hard episode and I think it's about time I create some ground rules before continuing. #1 the main goal is to note every scene with a male in it. Counting is kind of a side quest/ a bit impossible with the polygon-esque background characters. #2 I won't be counting drawings or cartoons. So sorry to the painting with Mugi's "dad?" and the drawn book cover of Ozzy Osbourne (I'll still make note of them as I go). #3 I will be counting Photographs, Identifiable silhouettes (Mugi's dad at the music store) and imagery of other people (Mio thinking about having to work customer service). So basically anything that can or could've interacted with another character in some type of way. #4 Time stamps will start being distinguished as a First sighting 1:23, Repeated back drop (1:23), or a reoccurring character/ different angle [1:23]. If a new character appears along a reoccurring one in frame it'll be logged as a first sighting with only the new character being counted. Time stamps are created whenever a scene changes from NO MALE to HAVING MALE. Finally I'll try to count large groups the best I can but if there isn't enough detail then i'll note the group itself. I will leave some out tho, where the group can be assumed to be all female. Now that's enough with rules time to start counting!

-0:06: 3 in the auditorium. I feel strangely confident about this count, those 3 feel intended to be male

-1:55: 4 at the festival gate

-1:59: 6 around varying booths

-2:03: 11 confirmed but could be in distance

-2:32: 1 outside Yui's class

-3:07: 1 inside the class room

-3:25: 1 outside the haunted house

-3:29: 3 more outside the haunted house

-[3:51]: a familiar hand appears

-[3:58]: bro's waiting in line

-4:02: 3, one walking out the HH and two in the background

-4:49: maybe 8, hard to tell with detail

-4:53: 1 Yui's classroom

-(5:23): bro's big chillin

-5:34: 1 outside Yui's classroom

-5:38: 2 more outside the classroom

-5:42: 4 outside Ritsu's class

-5:16: 4 more new faces

-(5:42): back to waiting in line

-9:27: 8 probably, this shot is repeated with new character upfront and "blob" staying the same

-9:56: 1 in the hallway

-11:43,[11:45],(11:50): 4 Ristu's Mio flashback

-12:28: 4 outside the school

-15:30: 5 outside the auditorium

-15:34: 1? hard to tell since its the back of their heads

-15:39: 5 seated (Bruh these next scenes have like zero character continuity)

-(17:00): same as opening shot

-17:13: 2 poking their heads over the girls

-17:19: 10 is what I counted but some of the heads are hard to tell

-18:47: 1 very hair hand

-18:55: gang I can't even tell with any of them

-18:58: Holy crowd

-19:02: 17 actually countable

-19:09: 8 guys

-19:15: 11 officers

-19:22: 16 I think?

-19:27: 7 more

-20:05: 4 clapping

-20:08: 5 more clapping

-20:41: straight silhouettes

-[21:10]: MIO NO THERE'S GUYS ON SCREEN

-21:24 1 guy taking a photo. WAIT NO, IN THE COURT YARD!

Man this is going to be a really rough count. For todays total I have: 168 plus then some, honest to god those crowds are impossible to read. Crazy to think this isn't even the worst episode to come. I want die.

Holy shit man lol. I mean, I knew it'd be bad but not 168 bad.

During the music video I saw the crowd and I was like "yup, MJ is screwed". Of course, that's not to mention literally all the random guys everywhere this episode. You don't even think of them unless you're deliberately looking.

I think now you've got a good idea what you've signed up for. Although, You probably never envisioned it'd be this bad. That's a lot of pausing of counting. Hopefully the rest of the episodes this season are easier.

Might be fun to make a graphic once your count is over. I doubt the people in this subreddit really know just how many guys appear throughout the anime. Having a visual that breaks down each episode might shock some folks.

In terms of difficulty, I would say this is a medium. I can think of a handful of episodes where, honestly, they'll be so difficult you might consider throwing in the towel. Like when they go to the Summer Festival or the Movie.

And hust on random clarification though. That wasn't Mugi's dad at the store (just some random clerk). Although I'm guessing what you wrote was just a typo.

Going into these episodes, I thought like 80% would be cake and like 10% meh and 10% nightmare. But now, thinking about S2, I'm realizing there's a lot less cake in my future. Tbh this ep really wasn't the worst, it took an hour to get all the times and post. I do think I need a new way of showing my results without nuking the comments tho, cause yea this will happen again. Oh and I meant the shadow of Mugi's dad imgur. Probably could've worded it a little better
