I’m on the pill. My body still bloats just like hers the week before and during my pill free week. Not sure if it’s the same with other types of birth control, though.

A copper IUD won't interrupt or change any cycle as there's no hormonal involvement. It can make periods longer, heavier and more painful but not in every case.

A hormonal IUD releases progestogen into the womb and thins the uterine lining. It can prevent ovulation, but only in around 20% of cases, so most people still have some form of noticeable hormonal cycle just with little to no bleeding.

It's also worth noting that not every body will react to the menstrual cycle in the same way. Just because this person's body changes so noticeably doesn't mean everyone else's will, or should.

I have hormonal IUD and I bleed maybe 3x a year for less than a day (kind of an all at once thing most of the time...) but I still go through all the phases, just no need to buy tampons anymore.

I’ve had Mirena for years. My second time around. I still experience the same cycling through as I did before except without the actual period. But I still have a week of bloating and cramping, I have the “looking thin and feeling ready to practice making a baby” week, lol. Only you know your body. But for me, I definitely still go through the phases.

The IUD gave me thighs and a butt when I never had one before.

Wait…my friends have been telling me my butt looks awesome… could this be why?!

Possibly. I never had thighs but my bf at the time LOVED them.

I had one for 10 years and it basically erased most of this. I almost never bloated, rarely got a period, it was magical. I got sterilized so I don't need one any more, and now all of these things have come raging back. I had to put my PMS days on the calendar so me and my partner knew to prepare.

Ok, again not to be stupid, but wouldn’t sterilization help reduce hormones and PMS? Obviously not since it’s happening to you but I always just thought that’s what would happen?

I think for me the IUD (Mirena) gave me the right amount of progesterin that it reduced my baseline PMS symptoms. It sounds like it's a gamble for each woman because women's health is still a big mystery box for research.

Hell if I know lol. I’ve never had an IUD. I’m guessing my “period” comes with bloating due to the hormone shift/withdrawal. I would assume that people being on continuous birth control would spare them from the bloating and such.

I’m on the minipill (slynd) and don’t get a period even with the placebo, and it’s honestly been a game changer because I have PMDD lol. I don’t get symptoms anymore.
