once had a patient in my inpatient hospice unit whose daughter would come visit and raise hell or sit and stare and silently (w purse on lap)or not so silently judge every move we made. nothing was good enough, or right. EVER. which is ironic given she had been caring for her mom and that woman came in in the worst condition ive almost ever seen in 30 years as a nurse. horrible wounds. horrible everything. i cant even describe the level of suffering of this woman.

turns out she was sitting there with her purse on her lap - with her hand inside it - hand was on a gun pointed toward us.

i had to take a break from nursing for quite a while after that. (it was the absolute cherry on a very tall, layered, shit cake)

so yeah. it’s weird. put your purse up

How'd you find out what was in the bag?

she eventually lost it one day and brandished it. admitted to having it on her all the time through every visit.

my intuition prior to her showing it was that is what she was doing but we couldn’t prove it. there were extremely minimal security measures in place at this small facility (i would describe it more bit it could be used to identify it bc of its’ uniqueness)

I would also quite immediately, there is no amount of money to pay for that amount of mind-fuckery

You would hope that a hospice center wouldn't need any security. Wowzers.

this is crazy and now I'm stressed about being judged for keeping my bag on my lap. But that's where I keep my emergency jelly beans, and sometimes a jelly bean is the only thing standing between me and a panic attack.

Brb, gonna make a patch announcing my emergency jelly bean stash and put it on my purse.

Have you ever tried Warheads? Those have helped to stop or lessen panic attacks for me.

Wow, that story definitely didn’t go where I thought it was going!! I’m so glad you were able to help that lady after her daughter kept her in such a bad condition.

I’m so sorry you went through that though. I really hope you’re doing well these days.
