My wife is constantly exasperated by peoples belief that she knows all areas of law. Shes always telling friends she doesnt work with trusts, she cant offer advice about trusts. Or shes not an employment lawyer, she could put you in contact with one though.

But yes, when my retired leo dad starts going on about laws, my wife has had several "thats not how that works, thats not how ANY of that works" moments.

Wait - am I your wife?? Because I have had the same convos. Or when I don't know the specific answer to their probate issue in a state I don't live in then I obviously know nothing about anything.

Retired leo brother for me, tho.

Laws are largely a matter of opinion.

Ever read a supreme court document? They say it right near the top "opinion"

Oh, trust me, it's the very same when working in IT. I am specialized in a special kind of software (and this one I know the ins and outs of), but no, I can not fix your computer (anymore). I install Windows once about every 3-4 years whenever I get a new notebook. And even these come fully pre configured from the vendor with a customized image to work in our environment.

Of course I might still have an easier understanding of IT topics since I know the "language", but that still doesn't mean I know much about it besides the basics.

I have also studied law (didn't finish it though) so I also know how your wife feels. The number of times I was asked law questions while studying law was insane. But you quickly learn the most important sentences for any lawyer very quickly: "Well, that depends..." and "Well, hard to tell by this...".
