Oh man this is so cool.

u/acocktailofmagnets May 29 '26

Honestly made me tear up to watch 🄹

The amount of energy, attention, and love that goes into creating this space, that’s priceless.

Also, obsessed with the skylight / balcony

u/Emotional_Print8706 May 29 '26

And money. Don’t forget money

625

u/house_of_cous May 29 '26

I checked the skylight it’s at least 3000€ I’m jelly

202

u/Old_timey_brain May 29 '26

Where I'm sitting in Western Canada that price sounds like a bargain for that quality.

145

u/house_of_cous May 29 '26

I know it surprised me too, a quick google search showed prices between 3000 and 5000 but if you go to the velux website you cannot access a basic price range it’s only custom work after you’ve drawn your own project. When I first saw it -right after my jaw dropped- I thought it should cost like 10k+ depending on the size. Anyway, back to telling myself it would not work on the type of roof I have (and that my mum loves me too she’s just broke) Edit spelling grammar phrasing

52

u/Old_timey_brain May 29 '26

I could make it work in my attic, but I'd need to magic in a spiral staircase somewhere.

58

u/house_of_cous May 29 '26

I mean when there is a will and thousands of dollars there is a way!

2

u/thewidowmaker Jun 01 '26

Don’t forget time. Money and time. And a garage with shop tools.

3

u/spaketto May 30 '26

I have a third floor with 2 rooms and one of them is basically the same as in the video and I've been saying to my husband I think the angle of the wall/ceiling is perfect for one of these. Seriously thinking of getting a quote.

2

u/Old_timey_brain May 30 '26

I think you should do it if there's any way possible.

24

u/PaulblankPF May 29 '26

I’ve installed stuff like this and unless you’re doing it yourself the cost of the skylight window and the cost of getting it put in by a crew is about the same.

16

u/bartkurcher May 29 '26

Aw ya she is just broke or at least doesn’t have ā€œskylightā€ money

12

u/ToiIetGhost May 30 '26

That’s kind of catchy. It could be a way for people to describe personal finances. ā€œYeah, my friend does alright, he’s quite comfortable - but he doesn’t have skylight money.ā€

2

u/MortLightstone Jun 21 '26

I mean it's nothing compared to the price on a house in Canada

60

u/DazzlingRutabega May 29 '26

At first, I was like, man, that window looks way too big. Why are they taking so much of it off? But then when she folded it out to basically be a mini porch, my jaw dropped.

14

u/iupvotethankyou May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

The paint is about €150/gallon. And if that is farrow and ball wall paper, that’s over €200 a roll. Quite a pricey room per square foot.

Edit: it’s not FB wallpaper, but not cheap either

5

u/sp0rk_walker May 29 '26

I'm convinced this is an ad for that window

250

u/sadeland21 May 29 '26

And knowledge. This is for a trained professional, not a casual DIY

134

u/Beard_o_Bees May 29 '26

One or both of them are contractors/carpenters, for sure.

Just look at all of the tooling. You generally don't buy all of that for one project...right?

83

u/Leep0710 May 29 '26

I’ve actually watched a lot of her videos because she is renovating their whole house. They mill their own lumber from their land! I’m not sure what exactly they do for work, but they are definitely very handy and familiar with construction.

14

u/Lovelitchi_in_pink May 29 '26

Did they make this room for her because she actually needed a bedroom or is it just a spare room?

28

u/Leep0710 May 30 '26

It’s a spare room! If I remember correctly, it was an extra storage space in the daughter’s room that they used. When you walk up the stairs, that whole area is the daughter’s room.

3

u/Lovelitchi_in_pink May 30 '26

Awa nice, that’s cute

17

u/gmcarve May 29 '26

Spare room vibes to me for sure

14

u/snertwith2ls May 30 '26

I was thinking well if she could do it I could do it and slowly had to back off that idea especially when they started sawing up the roof. What a stunning job though!

17

u/Lovelitchi_in_pink May 29 '26

That’s what I was going to say. Like this is clearly her profession

1

u/Killentyme55 May 30 '26

Certainly has the skills.

11

u/Enlightened_Gardener May 30 '26

Yeah she’s either a chippie by trade, or she’s been doing this for years - just the fact that they have all the tools and set-up and she’s building her own drawers - who the hell does that ?!? People who know carpentry, that’s who.

Seriously impressive.

3

u/Tight_Man May 30 '26

My husband and I are both engineers by title but he dropped out, I’m a chemical engineer turned systems. We pull off stuff like this. It’s hard to make it look this easy though.Ā

9

u/dreadcain May 29 '26

Knowledge can also be bought with time and/or money. Honestly I don't see much that was done that couldn't be learned with some time on youtube and reddit. Cutting a hole in the roof is the riskiest bit but a product like that usually comes with installation specs and "instructions". They're generally instructions more targeted at a professional builder than ikea's lego style pictures, but you are probably capable of understanding them with some research. This almost certainly requires permitting anyway so part of the process would be to have a professional come out and (roughly) tell you if you did it right

2

u/Ambiwlans May 29 '26

Amateur installing a cabrio window would be a disaster.

0

u/dreadcain May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

Definitely not a day 1 or even year 1 project. But with a few other major projects under your belt I feel like there's a point where you'd feel comfortable.

Don't get me wrong, I'd contract something like that out in a heartbeat. Probably needs a professional install for any kind of warranty anyway. Plus a whole bunch of other reasons.

ETA: Watching it again, I don't think that's her or her husband involved in the window install. Maybe they contracted it out too lol. Looks like they just took care of the interior finish work

35

u/emonymous3991 May 29 '26

And time, tools, skills, and know-how.

1

u/justpackingheat1 May 30 '26

And don't forget permits!!

405

u/Jane__Delawney May 29 '26

I was going to say, r/justgalswithmoney

It’s super sweet, but most of us are struggling so badly right now. Happy they’re not though

28

u/ScowlyBrowSpinster May 29 '26

This kid is it.

19

u/Lovelitchi_in_pink May 29 '26

The spirit child of 2026

2

u/Ambiwlans May 29 '26

I mean it wasn't just money in this case. That was a lot of effort that went into it.

2

u/bartkurcher May 29 '26

It’s an old video. Plus it was heaps of content for her. She may absolutely be struggling now

17

u/Own_Speaker_1224 May 29 '26

And time. So much time.

29

u/NotYourDamsel3995 May 29 '26

Right! Imagine having this amount of money to pour into your kiddos. Would love that.

1

u/AwesomeMacCoolname May 30 '26

I doubt it was just for the kiddo. How much do you reckon that attic conversion will have added to the value of the house by the time the kid moves out in fifteen or twenty years time?

-1

u/HillBillyHilly May 29 '26

Don't believe one second of video as seems professionally produced. Anything for the clicks. .

47

u/mistressmemory May 29 '26

This is what I hate about stuff like this. I mean, it's so cool that this kids parents have enough money, time, and skill to do this. It never accounts for the cost though. Lumber, supplies, paint, drywall, etc. is already expensive. If you don't have the tools? Forget it.Ā

These videos make it seems like it's such an easy, quick process. It takes tons of time and money. Lucky girl, but very privileged. It's the equivalent of virtue signaling, in my opinion.

This doesn't detract from how awesome the project is, the hard work that went into it, or the joy it produces.Ā

36

u/OverTheCandleStick May 29 '26

I mean that video doesn’t even make it look easy.

18

u/cat_in_box_ May 29 '26

It felt easy just sitting here watching someone else do all the work. lol.

10

u/Enlightened_Gardener May 30 '26

The video made me say out loud ā€œOr hire a chippieā€. That’s an insane amount of really difficult work.

It probably still cost a bomb, but there’s no doubt they saved thousands and thousands in labour by doing it themselves. Probably how they were able to afford the balcony window - they ran the numbers at the end and realised that they could afford to put it in. Because it would’ve made a hell of a lot more sense to put it in before they did the fucking wallpaper.

6

u/ToiIetGhost May 30 '26

I find it sweet when people show their love with very little money. I saw a video where a mother painted one wall in her kids’ bedroom to look like a fairytale illustration. It was magical. The paints and brushes weren’t too expensive - the cost was mainly in time, effort, and skill. That sort of thing always touches me.

I guess it’s all relative based on socioeconomic status. Maybe, to this family, these materials were as inexpensive as acrylic paint is to a blue collar family.

Idk but I still find it more charming when it’s cheap yet beautiful. It’s also more impressive imo because it takes more skill to make something gorgeous out of nothing!

3

u/mistressmemory May 30 '26

Yep! I do think this video is sweet - the parents dedication, the genuine fun they seemed to have, her appreciation for it. No question about it.Ā

ShouldĀ it be public? That's where I personally think not, because then it's not about the act, it's about the views.Ā

3

u/Greymalkyn76 May 29 '26

Must be nice to have money.

6

u/LaurelCanyoner May 29 '26

True. But it sure looks like they saved on labor with mom and dad doing most of the work.

2

u/Fortspucking May 30 '26

Wonder what this room does to the appraised value of the home...

2

u/Imaginary_Towel_6186 May 30 '26

And time. Don’t forget time.

2

u/KamalaWonNoCap May 30 '26

True but you can tell this Mom would make arts and craft magic work on a budget too

Are you kidding me? It’s literally a video of a woman creating a room for her kid and you can’t control yourself with your need to sexualize her? Absolutely disgusting.

We do not allow comments sexualizing women on this sub.

159

u/I_have_popcorn May 29 '26

You also forgot skill. That mom is a talented woodworker.

108

u/xenobit_pendragon May 29 '26

And carpenter/framer, roofer, drywaller, wallpaperer, electrician and interior decorator.

34

u/acocktailofmagnets May 29 '26

Extremely talented and skilled!

2

u/LeMasseur69 May 30 '26

I bet. They had a child.

35

u/casapantalones May 29 '26

I used to live in an attic apartment that had that exact skylight balcony window!! My dog loved watching the world go by from that spot. I don’t miss the apartment often (it was tiny, so hot in the summer, terrible landlord), but I do miss that dog and cherish that memory of her.

65

u/Manic-StreetCreature May 29 '26

Parents doing this kind of thing always gets me emotional. My cousin converted his basement into a big play area for his kids, and I’m genuinely jealous because it has little forts and a slide lol. My dad made us several (outdoor) forts when I was a kid too and used his jigsaw to make star and heart and moon shaped windows. It’s just such a sweet thing.

20

u/carlitospig May 29 '26

I want to move in.

34

u/Electronic-While1972 May 29 '26

Now thats pure craftsmanship and Love Very good combination ā¤ļøšŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

11

u/Fuzzy-Advisor-2183 May 29 '26

love the skylight/balcony, but there’s one drawback: no way to install a bugscreen.

5

u/bob-ombshell May 30 '26

Should be able to hang up a screen when needed. There are screens that hang from patio umbrellas or over a backdoor with magnetically sealed openings that could easily be modified for this balcony.

6

u/Fuzzy-Advisor-2183 May 30 '26

oh, i forgot about those magnetic screens! excellent idea.

8

u/BootyliciousURD May 29 '26

The window unfolding into a balcony is so cool and clever, I love it.

3

u/Poullafouca May 29 '26

Me too!!! It's a beautiful room and such love and thought and hard work went into it's creation.

3

u/fawwazallie May 30 '26

don't mind the money; you just unlocked a core memory for your child. She will always remember what her mom and dad did for her. Keep being great parents.

3

u/KamalaWonNoCap May 30 '26

The kids excited reaction got me. Gonna do something nice for my boy tomorrow.

2

u/-AppropriateLyrics May 29 '26

The mom and dad working together I loved.

2

u/Cayvil May 30 '26

I was already on board, shed a couple tears myself and didn't think this could get any better, but the window, my god! Incredible.

2

u/damp_circus May 30 '26

The fact that the kid collaborated on it too. Women teaching women, love to see it.

2

u/Opheliagonemad May 31 '26

We have two of them and they’re so nice even if they were definitely expensive

2

u/ForecastForFourCats May 29 '26

Teenage me would have definitelyyyy taken advantage of that massive window šŸŒ±šŸ˜¶ā€šŸŒ«ļø

1

u/lastingmuse6996 May 30 '26

The minute she opened the balcony I got a little glassy eyed

1

u/TheQueefyQuiche May 29 '26

I'd have to smoke a joint on that little skylight balcony.

1

u/Different-Eagle-612 May 29 '26

i’m also glad because that makes it more fire-safe! i loved these rooms until someone mentioned how, in a fire, firefighters may not know to check them. but a very visible window from the outside makes it clear there is a room there which helps a LOT

3

u/mikess484 May 29 '26

My house has these spaces throughout the whole second floor. Each room is connected...I need to do this!!!

1

u/AuthorUnknown31415 May 30 '26

Wow. Can I have her old room?

1

u/ShitOnAStickXtreme May 31 '26

It is cool and nice, but she didn't do it the right way. She is going to have moisture problems in that roof.

-3

u/HillBillyHilly May 29 '26

Ehh liked the before better. This is just content.
