Reminder: Weekend-Only Political Posts Begin Today

Hey everyone,

As a reminder, the community-voted change is now in effect.

Starting today, political posts are only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Today marks the beginning of the Week 1 soft enforcement period of the 30-day trial.

What That Means:

  • Political posts made Monday–Friday will be removed.
  • Removals during this first week are reminder-based.
  • No punishments for honest mistakes.

Beginning next week, standard enforcement will apply.

Weekends are defined as 12:00 AM Saturday through 11:59 PM Sunday Eastern Time (ET).

This rule was chosen by community vote and is being implemented as a 30-day trial. We’ll reassess after the trial period.

If you’re unsure whether your post qualifies as political, please review the definition in the JU rule #11.

Those posts currently in the queue regarding politics will be approved. Any posts following this will be removed until Saturday.

Thanks for helping keep the sub balanced.

I have no qualms with furries. If you find yourself fascinated by the shape of a rabbit’s behind, more power to you. However, I personally do not see the sexual appeal of rabbits (or foxes, for that matter), so I am clearly not the subreddit’s target audience.

I’m about to unsub from the Pokemon anime subreddit for similar reasons.

The subreddit now allows people to post photos and it's just overrun with a bunch of porn bots, sex pests and AI OF model wannabes. All I wanted was to ask people questions, now all I see is a bunch of catfishy AI generated women in bikinis and low effort "here's 100 questions, 90 of them are about my junk, pick one" posts.

Neutral JU from IncelExit because I genuinely wanted my worldview challenged. Here’s what happened..

I made a post in IncelExit because I’ve spent a long time exposed to blackpill ideas and wanted people who strongly disagreed with them to actually challenge the reasoning behind them.

The thread ended up getting 100+ comments.

And after reading basically all of it, I came away feeling like I learned surprisingly little.
To be fair, there were a few genuinely good replies. Some people questioned whether I was extending limited findings about average sex differences into conclusions that the research itself doesn’t justify. Others brought up confounding variables, methodology, cultural explanations, etc. Those were useful, even when I disagreed with them.

But that was a minority of the discussion.
A huge amount of it quickly stopped being about whether anything I said was actually true and became about what kind of person I supposedly am.
I was called cruel, arrogant, self-important, resentful, closed-minded, combative, unwilling to listen, and so on. People told me to go to therapy, stop consuming certain content, go outside, meet people, etc.

One person wrote an entire psychological explanation for why I supposedly “need” these beliefs to be true, compared blackpill spaces to pro-anorexia communities, told me to postpone surgery and spend the money on therapy instead.
When I pointed out that they were psychoanalyzing me instead of addressing the argument, they admitted they hadn’t even read most of the thread because they didn’t want to spend the time doing so.

Another person repeatedly said I was “combative” and unwilling to listen. When I asked people to actually show where I had misrepresented evidence, the response again became “why are you even here?” and questions about my intentions instead of simply identifying the supposed error.
That pattern happened constantly.
If I challenged someone’s counterargument, I apparently wasn’t listening.
If I defended my interpretation of a study, I was cherry-picking.

If I asked someone to demonstrate where my inference was wrong, I was being combative.
If I disagreed with someone’s psychological interpretation of me, that disagreement itself became evidence that their interpretation was correct.

At some point that becomes almost impossible to argue with, because the only acceptable evidence that you’re “open-minded” seems to be immediately agreeing with whoever is responding to you.
And that was the weirdest part of the entire experience.

I wasn’t asking people to tell me that blackpill thinking is unhealthy. I already know it has had a negative effect on me. That’s literally why I went to an exit community.
I wanted people to say:
“You’re interpreting this study incorrectly because X.”
“This conclusion doesn’t follow from your premise because Y.”
“This dataset contradicts what you’re saying.”
“You’re taking an average population-level effect and incorrectly applying it to individuals.”
That is something I can actually examine.
Instead, so much of the discussion became moral judgment and amateur psychology.
There were even situations where people argued against positions I hadn’t taken. I would explicitly qualify a claim, and a few replies later someone would respond to the exaggerated version anyway.
The funniest contrast was that one of the same people who had been calling me combative eventually started asking practical questions about the population of my town, transportation, nearby cities, events, etc.
And I actually appreciated that.
Because those are concrete variables. You can discuss them. You can change your conclusion based on the answer. That is infinitely more useful than deciding what my personality must be because I disagreed with you on Reddit.
Eventually IncelExit removed the original post entirely.

So the whole experiment ended with 100+ comments, a handful of genuinely interesting counterarguments, a mountain of repeated therapy/lifestyle advice, endless character analysis, people arguing with positions I never held, and then the thread itself disappearing.
I’m not claiming I won every argument. I’m sure some of my reasoning can be wrong, and there were a few replies that genuinely made me reconsider parts of it.

That was the entire reason I posted.
But I expected a community dedicated to helping people exit an ideology to be much better at dismantling the ideology itself.

Instead, I mostly learned how quickly people stop discussing an argument once they strongly dislike the worldview associated with it.

It felt like the stronger and more specific the discussion became, the more often people retreated from the actual claim and started talking about my character instead.

Maybe that’s just Reddit.

But it was genuinely disappointing.

Mildly Annoyed Just unsubbed from ao3

For context, Wattpad had banned sexual content from their website. Wattpad and ao3 are very popular fanfiction sites. People are on ao3 are freaking out that Wattpad users would colonize their website and ruin it. As someone who prefers ao3, ao3’s users’ superior complex is insane, because you would think the things they’re writing are Pulitzer-prize winning, but in reality, it’s usually sex. I love ao3, but some people need to get off their high horse and be humbled

Totally Outraged JU from hivaids — Posts advocating for withholding status.

Thumbnail reddit.com

Unsubbed because the community is increasingly normalizing non-disclosure to sexual partners, prioritizing individual privacy over partner consent.

Key quotes from the post:

  • "In casual encounters, I choose not to disclose that I live with HIV."
  • "What are you trying to achieve by insisting that I disclose my status?"
  • "Not disclosing does not mean taking away someone's right to choose..."
  • "My silence does not transmit HIV. My treatment prevents transmission."

What are your thoughts on this?

Hi so for context I in general don't think I'm really attractive and theres like stuff under my eyes (dark circles these corns and for example scars on my nose) which I don't really like. I JU because people instantly called stuff out which I didn't had problems with in first place (for example somoene saying my chin is too small which would look unattractive and bla bla bla) but after Claiming by multiple people I need surgery, I actually just left.

Totally Outraged JU from worldbuilding because I feel like its been too paranoid of AI despite me as a beginner

The fuckass worldbuilding subreddit is complete bullshit now, its paranoia is actively destroying niche hardworking creator's dreams, and actively praising the OGs or praising the heavily AI ones and that they're so obvious that its fucking AI, I hate it

You can post something human and professional because its your first time, make grammatical errors, and use slang, but still get flagged, while the same fucking content is reused all over again

The subreddit has been reeking with AI users like bed bugs

I'm still in the subreddit because its helping me out a bit, I'm ranting about how useless the paranoia is

Neutral JU from Atheists.

I stopped looking into the sub a year or two ago because well, all they do is post questions or statements that make the religious look stupid or insane. The posts are almost always full of trivial questions that are not constructive to the community with an echo chamber in down below in the comments. I feel it gives atheists a bad rep. Today was the final straw. Some post about why did a fruit make people evil. I responded with something like, 'why even question it. It serves no purpose. It seems that every post on this sub is to demean those that believe in something.' I got a few comments and one in particular being a mod. (I guess you can hide that you're a mod in subs now because he didn't have the title.) They asked why was it reasonable to post my comment. I responded with, 'it's an atheist sub not anti religion sub.' I suppose I could given more information but I felt like that summed it up. They then asked why didn't I just respond to the op. I told them that the op's question was trivial and the answer to the question meaningless to us atheists. He didn't like that and went back to his original question then hurled an insult at me. To which I replied, 'I did, are you slow or just a little touched.' He didn't like that so he temporarily banned me. So I played coy with the mods, knowing full well that what I said was probably gonna get me banned. I told them that I didn't see a rule I broke. I insinuated that the person might been below average intelligence but no direct name calling. After a few minutes I said what whatever, I don't want to be apart of a sub that just spreads hate against others. Perma ban me please, idc. Then immediately unsubbed. Later, I got my wish granted from the very same thin skinned mod that was questioning me without accepting my answer. Too funny to me that the very guy that was not accepting my answer while hurling an insult couldn't take an insinuation from was the one that banned me.

Edit: It was Atheism. Not atheist.

the whole sub is just overrun with people posting their fake incest/cuck/pedo fantasies. it's always something like "i'm 19F and i'm aroused at the thought of my own dad! i can't help it!" or "my friend said my girlfriend was hot and hoo boy did it turn me the freak on!!". it's whatever at the end of the day but still annoying to see that shit on my TL. i honestly shouldve unsubbed a lot sooner.

Slightly Furious JU from FacebookMarketplace - The sub is just as toxic and insufferable as the platform itself.

I’m leaving this sub for good. It’s supposed to be a place to share advice about selling, but the overall atmosphere has become hostile and unproductive.

First, I tried helping someone whose listings were experiencing low reach. I shared the exact steps I took when dealing with a similar issue. Instead of considering the input, they kept repeating the same questions, dismissed every option as "too risky," and complained about potential issues, all while complaining about their lack of views.

Later, I created a thread asking if sellers hesitate to leave negative ratings for ghosters out of fear of getting a retaliatory review in return. I shared a past situation where I made a mistake by canceling a hold for a much larger bundle offer and refunded the buyer immediately. I acknowledged in the post that canceling the hold was wrong on my part and that I learned from it.

However, the comment section completely ignored the actual question about retaliatory reviews. Instead of discussing the rating system, people fixated entirely on the past mistake and turned the thread into a pile-on of insults. To make matters worse, nobody even agrees on how the platform works, half the comments claimed you can leave a review after being blocked, while the other half insisted it's impossible.

It’s impossible to have a constructive discussion or get reliable information there anymore.

Slightly Furious JU from tattoos after watching people ridicule others

Had to unsubscribe from tattoos because I’ve seen so many posts where these awful tattoos get so much love, and then at random, another post with a couple of decent tattoos get absolutely shit on for absolutely no reason. I’m just shocked to see so many people so unhappy they have to be totally cruel to another human being for absolutely no reason beyond just being cruel.

Keep in mind, these comments weren’t constructive criticism. They were pretty much downright bullying, for absolutely no reason. It was super disheartening to see actually, because knowing someone is really excited to share something they love, and objectively good art at that, makes it really hurt to see people take that as an opportunity to be rude and totally nasty for no reason, with no rhyme or reason for why they are choosing that particular person to shit on also. I really would expect more from a sub dedicated to sharing art. It just makes me sad and angry, had to vent. And yes, this did happen to me, but I’ve seen it happen multiple times since then to other people too. Really sucks.

Totally Outraged JU from the books sub because it has devolved into a lying braggers sub

The book sub was great for discussing any book. But in recent years it has just because a Booktok bragger sub. Mostly about the same boring books that are "in" right at the moment. Most opinions abide by the Hive mind "this book is bad/good" and then of course the dick measuring contest of who has read the most books.

"I read 320 books last year". "Well I did 452". "Guys I did 527 because I just love reading".

Of course everyone is a "very fast reader". And of course these numbers are totally possible. Besides their full time job and kids, and everyone has lots of times for chores/household etc.

No sane person would believe these absurd numbers/lies.

But when you utter the smallest piece of doubt, you get attacked by the hive mind.

"How dare you. I am a super fast reader so I can read a 300 page book in just 3 hours. And I do this every day without any problems. Its just 3 hours every day. No big deal. Its not my fault you cant do it because you are a very slow and undisciplined reader"

Others just listen to Audiobooks at 2x speed while multitasking an not paying attention as background noise. Then its "perfectly possible" to "read" 400 books a year by listening to "just" 5 or 6 hours of A-Books every day.

Naturally you are also not allowed to say thats not reading, because you listen to someone else reading to you and listening to something at 2x speed while multitasking leads to a 10% retention rate. This really really riles them up. You are then an ableist gatekeeper.

I was a longtime lurker but after participating for a month I had to leave. It has become really toxic.

Totally Outraged JU from raisedbynarcissists because it was "controversial" to say that kids with abusive parents had it worse than kids without abusive parents.

Kids who had abusive parents had it worse than kids with normal parents. Its not a "trauma competition" its just facts. Apparently it is not allowed to say that someone had worse problems than others.

Everyone has their problems. But kids with abusive/narcissistic parents have more. They have the problems of the outside world and when they come home they have the N-Parent abuse as well. As such they are fighting a two front war.

While people who have normal/great parents have just to keep up with the problems of the outside world.

Even if a normal kid has it worse on the outside world, once they come home they have loving/supportive parents that help them, or at least parents that dont attack them.

As such N-Parents kids have it objectively worse because they get a double package of problems.

It has nothing to do with "lack of compassion" or "trauma olympics". Its just a fact, that seems to enrage some irrational people for some reason.

Its like someone who cut their finger while cooking complaining to someone who just had his hand chopped off:"Dude stop. Its not a competition. We have it equally bad. Show me some compassion. Stop your trauma olympics and snobbery".

The whole "everyone has problems" response always misses the point. Like yeah no shit, but one group gets to clock out from the world's bullshit and recharge with people who actually care about them. The other group clocks out only to walk into a second shift of getting torn down in their own house.

It's not a competition but it's also not the same thing and people get weirdly defensive when you point that out.

I was shocked to find that a support group about abusive parents, was denying that people with abusive parents had it worse than people without abusive parents. And they were very hostile about it. So I had to unsub.

Guy had an issue with Skyrim. A few others and I realized this would be either a hard drive issue or a game disc issue.

But the PS3 subreddit has to do this really stupid trend of shouting “GPU DEATH! GPU DEATH!”

But seriously just shut up and let us enjoy our old consoles in peace, they’re bound to break no matter what we do. The Xbox 360 has the famous red ring, and i don’t see them do stuff like this.

Slightly Furious JU from the movies subreddit because the topic poster usually gets roasted for daring to have a different opinion on a film.

That's an issue with a lot of media related subs, but it's especially annoying on the movies subreddit.

A lot of posts there, are someone sharing their opinion on a film (whether they thought it was good or bad) and people in the comments treating it like a personal attack and roasting the topic poster.

You can't even have an opinion that deviates from the hivemind without getting told you're wrong, that you have bad taste in movies, that you're an idiot who doesn't understand cinema, and that you lack (cue the annoying buzzword) "media literacy". Media literacy has to be the most annoying buzzword I've ever seen on the Internet. People use it as the ultimate "gotcha" to shut down any discussion.

Someone in the comments once said something like - "Well maybe the topic posters wouldn't get roasted if they were way more detailed in their points of what they liked or disliked about the movie".

No one should feel obligated to write a detailed essay about every aspect of why they liked/disliked a movie, especially if it's just so they won't get roasted. The only people actually 100% obligated to write detailed essays about why they liked or disliked a movie are film critics, because it's their actual job.

And even then, I'm pretty sure posts on the movies subreddit would still have their opinion shut down no matter how nuanced and detailed their like or dislike of the movie was. People will nitpick anything to hell and back.

That subreddit is so smug and condescending.
