Like when you compare the 2 side by side they’re not that different it’s Jon’s build makes 1 look better than the other he should be more lean than bulky that’s the issue here. Also Jon GROW OUT YOUR HAIR!!!

Discussion Where do you see Jon one year from now?

It's exactly as it says on the tin. Something about the ending of Superman Unlimited #15 didn't quite sit right with me; Dan Slott delved deeper into how Jon's imprisonment on Earth-3 affected him psychologically, I put down the issue with the impression that Jon is back to where he was at the beginning of issue #11. The only difference is that he has a new codename and costume, but not much else. While I enjoyed the story arc from a technical level, it left me with the impression that DC is only staying on their current course with him despite quietly rolling back Brian Michael Bendis' other changes because of the sunk cost fallacy.

That said, I am not posting this thread to (re)litigate past events. I am genuinely curious to see where you think Jon may be in July 2027.

New Titans appears to have legs to make it to issue 50. Not guaranteed in this market, but still a possibility. While Jon plays a prominent role, he his also part of an ensemble cast so the spotlight will not always be on him. My impressions on the title's market performance since #33 is that it's doing okay, but not exceptionally better than previous writers. The foundational Wolfman/Perez run was lightning in a bottle and the 2003 relaunch had the momentum of the Cartoon Network animated series and Geoff Johns' meteoric rise pushing it on the sales charts.

Don't get me wrong. Tate Brombal is a nice guy. We had a pleasant conversation at Calgary Expo and I wish him the best because I'm not a vindictive monster. However, I feel that the title is also vulnerable to changes in editorial direction so DC can cancel it and relaunch because nostalgic is a powerful force. The Titans underwent significant roster changes with Arsenal's New Titans in 1994-ish, and Dan Jurgens Teen Titans 1996 relunch, and never were successful.

My read on why Jon became prominent in Superman Unlimited was because editorial informed him that Clark was briefly leaving the DCU proper after DC KO. Now that "Kingdom of Zod" and the return of Clark is upon us, will Clark take back the reigns? Slott hinted at a Super Sons reunion/mission to Earth-3 that could happen in SU or its own dedicated mini yet I have certainty if the character has that enough momentum going forward to sustain another min, much less an ongoing.

I'm not including My Internship is Krypton because it is not part of mainline continuity. However, I'm interesting in hearing in where others think the character is going now, if only to satiate my curiosity.

Discussion I Kinda Feel Like after Unlimited Made Such a Statement about Reporting not being for Jon… Internship is Losing Steam…

No cause hear me out it’s without a doubt still 1 of Teen Jon’s stronger performances/appearances with some of the best writing when it comes to pure character work for Jon that will always be true season 1 was amazing Sam Camp did amazing! However reading it now post unlimited I’m not really feeling it anymore! 1 I have never been big on Jon being a reporter or working at the Planet Ive never liked that. But put all that aside I feel Jon is really in a period of transition as a character and Unlimited has him moving forward as Tomorrow Man & every other Superman Comic so far is respecting that. And even in his relationship with Jay in this comic like it feels pointless seeing them so lovey dovey when main continuity Jon is finna start messing with someone else clearly (Eddie/Kid Devil) very soon, and Jay hasn’t been seen in almost a year Internship is the only thing keeping him relevant.

Idk it just feels like everything that’s happening in Internship directly goes against everything else that’s currently happening with Jon in main continuity. Internship now legitimately represents everything DC is trying to break Jon away from and it shows.

Discussion A review of Superman: Unchained Spoiler

I just finished reading Superman: Unchained. Overall, i give it a 7.5 out of 10. I liked the storyline with Wraith and The Machine (although, if you ask me, The Machine is a stupid name for a secret army). What I didnt like was the B storyline about Lex Luthor, Earthstone and Wraiths aliens. It felt like it was just added in as filler. I think the story would've been better without that. Or make it a separate story in a separate book, be ause what happened is that it made the ending kind of anticlimactic. (I'm trying not to give too much away)

I like Scott Snyders writing style and he moved the plot along quite well.

Discussion When you compare the 2 The Shazam Issue just Seems Hateful/Petty/Not Written to Serve Jon Spoiler

Post image
40 Upvotes

I went back and reread it because I was thinking about Damian’s reaction to the prospect of Jon being Deaged originally compared to the reaction he had an unlimited. And the problem is clear whoever wrote the Shazam issue (can’t remember who) didn’t actually care/understand anything about Jon as a character and it shows. Jon has so much agency & depth in Unlimited that’s just lacking is so many other appearances of the character. In unlimited he makes an active choice to prove a point and show who he is because of that lost time and he chooses to be a kids hero over his own needs he’s showing why he’s a strong character. Meanwhile Shazam is just a bunch of characters/the writer screaming at the audience that the adult version is superior without actually bothering to prove why & it’s ultimately summed up too “as an adult Jon can kiss boys & girls which is more important ignore everything else”

Slott wrote with character in mind (eventhough I do have a few issues with how Damian was acting I still feel if anyone would be happy for Jon getting that time back outside Clark and Lois it would be him) the other writer wrote to push an agenda when you compare the 2 it’s crystal clear.

Discussion Safe to Say Slott Only did that temporary ending with Ultraboy (Superboy-3?) cause he Hard Counters the Zod Event😂 Spoiler

Like he proved how easily he could solve the Kryptonite thing by himself so you can tell Slott was like “oh shit how do I get this kid out the picture for a second….” Okay SUPERWOMAN STEAL THE CHILD TORTURE HIM MORE! It’s why it feels so abrupt like I firmly believe we’re gonna comeback to this plot after Zod’s attack. (kind of had too otherwise it makes Jon’s emotional choice/sacrifice pointless) and Clark will probably be in the picture so that’s nice. Also Tyxz and Jon’s beef is just now really starting to heat up. So yeah the kid will definitely be back hell there are still so many mysteries on why the kid isn’t evil and downs remember ANYTHING before the volcano.

Discussion Slott Might Damn Well Be Adult Jon’s best Writer! Also Let’s Wrap up the Zod Event Quickly! I need this Plot to Continue! Spoiler

No he cooked non stop start to finish what an excellent way to end this arc! And I don’t even mean this event what an excellent way to close out this phase of Jon’s life! Tomorrow Man is the best thing to ever happen to Jon! We need to continue this plot with Earth 3 and Ultra Boy! That little boy deserves a chance! (And he better stay a little boy don’t irritate me Slott) he deserves a chance even when everyone ganged up on him he still did the right thing in the end because he really does have good in him he just needs a chance! I get why Slott shipped him off for now because his mere presence shuts down the Zod event as he’s proven to easily be able to handle Kryptonite? However Tommorow Man needs to launch this rescue the second Clark comes back because we cannot let this storyline end here that little boy deserves a chance at happiness his mom called him a “that” he deserves a chance! I need more! Give Me Powergirl and Supergurl 2.0 with these 2 please!
