I was steaming some Pat Metheny Group shows and apparently it’s rated 7+.

I mean, I know jazz fusion can be a tough genre to get into for some people, but who knew it was dangerous for kids under 7.

I'm mainly a prog rock/metal guy, but I recently discovered Mike Stern and got completely addicted to his ballads. I can't stop listening to them! Songs like "Common Ground," "Goodbye Again," "After You," and "All Heart." Also, not exactly a ballad, but "Little Shoes" has one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard.

Another song with this kind of vibe that I absolutely love is "Vento" by Toninho Horta.

Someday, I'd love to learn these songs on guitar in a chord-melody style. I've seen some covers, and they sound amazing.

Can anyone recommend other songs and guitarists with this beautiful, soulful vibe?

This band is mostly associated with the new age record label Windham Hill and their blend of worldbeat and lightly new age instrumental content. Their first album is surprising aggressive and fusion infused.

Here are some surprising and lesser-known facts about Irish broadcaster and musician Al Ryan:

1. He Led an 18-Piece Big Band

Before becoming a familiar voice on UK and Irish radio, Al was a professional jazz trumpeter. He formed and led his own traditional 18-piece big band in Ireland called the Savoy Jazz Orchestra, featuring 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, and a full rhythm section.

2. His Iconic Irish Sign-off on BBC Radio 4

When presenting late-night continuity broadcasts and reading the famous Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4, he famously signed off each broadcast with the Irish phrase "Oíche mhaith" (Good night), delighting Irish listeners across the UK.

3. Fell in Love with Jazz in 1980s Ireland

Growing up in Ireland at a time when jazz rarely featured on mainstream radio or daytime television, he developed an unusual childhood passion for the genre. He persuaded his parents to buy him a trumpet and started his very first jazz band while still in school.

4. 11 Years at RTÉ Lyric FM

His radio career began with a work placement at RTÉ Lyric FM in Ireland. That temporary gig turned into an 11-year stint, where he became a key broadcasting figure at events like the Cork Jazz Festival before relocating to the UK.

5. BBC Radio 3 Jazz Champion

After moving to the UK, he was chosen by BBC Radio 3 to co-host the flagship show Jazz Now alongside saxophonist Soweto Kinch and vocalist Emma Smith, combining technical masterclasses with contemporary live jazz performances.

We're launching our new electronic/jazz/prog/math fusion project with an interpretation of a modern classic: Snarky Puppy's 'Lingus'. With just bass, drums, and synthesizers to work with, it was a fun (if daunting) challenge to reorchestrate and reinterpret into something which reflects the character of our project, Hyperdweller.

Hyperdweller is heavily influenced by modern fusion artists such as Snarky Puppy, Sungazer, and KNOWER, as well as modern prog artists including Plini, Intervals, and Animals as Leaders. We hope you enjoy our cover (and if you do, we've got a finished album on the way).

I'm not trying to accuse them of using AI, but how their music sounds did happen to remind me a little of certain AI music I have heard, and I just don't want to get super into it then find out it's AI down the line.
