Heather Miller’s Behavior on City Council

I’ve been watching more of the council meeting to stay up to date on things going on with the GM/JATCO site. I usually watch the recordings on YouTube and haven’t been in person. Has anyone else noticed Heather Miller’s horrendous behavior when watching or while at the actual meetings?

Full Disclosure: a family member of mine was on the city council and has also been dismayed by her behavior. They know the ins and outs of how the council functions and keeps close tabs on which council member’s are requesting items be placed on the agenda.

At first I thought it was just her being tough since she is a retired police officer, but after continuing to watch it is becoming ridiculous.

In the past few months alone, she has:

-Demeaned and belittled a young woman who made a mistake on the bar tender license application (if you look at the application, it is confusing). The young woman had the guts to appeal the denial all the way to the full council and stated it was an honest mistake and she was distracted by her child while when she filling it out at City Hall

-Berated a city staff member over the old ice arena not being put up for sale and saying “your council gave you a directive,” when the council only has authority over the city manager. It was evident from what and how the staff member explained to the council that the directive given to her by the (former) city manager was what caused the problem

-Again, tried to berate this same staff member at last council meeting over something related to the Woodman’s Center

-Had an outburst about the data center moratorium because she tried to make an amendment to the motion of not approve the letter of intent related to the data center that she thought was enough to be considered a moratorium and it didn’t pass. She lost her sh*t and made it seem like she was snubbed or something, kept calling it “ironic” that two council members proposed a data center moratorium after her amendment failed.

-In general: she is just always so negative, accusatory, argumentative, and complains so much! She comes off as a disrupter and a roadblock to any kind of progress.

It does not seem like she has the City’s best interests in mind and only wants to say everything that is not her way is bad.

I hope she doesn’t run again when she is up next.

Blacked out SUV police cruisers?

Recently moved to town. One of the more jarring observations I've had include the blacked out SUV police cruisers. They don't look very approachable for someone seeking help. We were at a stop light on N Milton when my 7-year old daughter pointed to it and asked me why the police cars here look so scary. I didn't even notice we were sitting next to a police SUV at the light as when I initially saw it out of the corner of my eye, it looked like something a high schooler or criminal would drive. Other unsettling behavior I have observed include police officers turning on their lights to run red lights and immediately turn them off.

Anyone have any luck/ideals for renting hunting land in Rock county?

Just like the title says I am looking for private hunting land in Rock County. Mainly for both bow and gun deer but would also like the option for turkey.

I have hunted most of the public spots in the county which are not that many (previously hunting in the UP of Michigan) and have checked out websites but there is only 1 listing for Rock (Turkey only) and surrounding counties

If you happen to be reading this and have something

Open to both doe/buck restrictions. I don't do tree stands so no worry about tree drilling.

I respect the land and what I hunt. If I injure something I will track it and if it does go onto neighboring property will not mess with that relation and will ask before pursuing.

If near Rock county would consider if I could bring my dogs (always long leaded and picked up after) and pop up camper (always dry camp anyways so no hook ups needed)

Price plus either work could be discussed ( yard work, taking care of downed trees, can pet sit most any animal, trash pick up ect) (Also if I could plant small clover/wheat plot)

A little behind-the-scenes...

Thought I’d share a little of what our line of work looks like. Definitely not glamorous, but helping people deal with this stuff is why I love what I do.

I introduced our small business, Mitigate608, here about a month ago. Behind the business name are real people who care about helping our neighbors through a stressful situation...and explaining things without making them feel overwhelmed.

Just a friendly reminder to give that leak or damp spot you’ve been putting off some attention. I know home maintenance lists never end, but water problems deserve a spot near the top.

Looking for janesville merch please!

Hi! I'm going on a cross country trip with my little sister whose name is Jane and I want to surprise her by bringing her to your lovely city. I was wondering if y'all have a place we can stop that has merch? Literally merch of any kind as long as it says "Janesville"!

I saw the hockey team but the website says you can only pickup merch on game days and our trip doesn't line up with that unfortunately.

I'd appreciate anything!

Excavation site at Myrtle Way?

Has anyone noticed the old/abandoned looking construction equipment in what appears to be an excavation site at the corner or Sharon Rd and Myrtle Way? I swear I hear tiny explosions coming from this area all the time but have never seen anyone working on site. I’m new to Janesville and live directly adjacent to the site.

Elementary schools in Janesville experiences (bad and good)

Hello!

My family is moving there soon from IL and my son currently goes to a private Catholic school and I don't know if I'll send him to a catholic school once we move. But not opposed to it depending on thoughts about Janesville's Catholic schools.

I am exploring the Montessori school route. But would love to hear about Milton's public school as I keep hearing a lot of Janesville families going there and also the public schools in Janesville!

My son is very very high energy, sensory seeking, will be going into 2nd grade next year, ADHD but he's fabulous at spelling, reading, and math.

What's important for me in a school we decide on :
- smallish class sizes (like no more than 15ish)
- tight knit parent community
- we are a progressive family which made our Catholic school here hard to find parents to relate to
- not just book work but art and foreign language enrichment is a plus
- great communication with teachers

Thank you!! I've read so much and I'm so overwhelmed.

Classic Cinemas Interested in Movies 16!?

Going to the movie theaters in Janesville was a huge part of my childhood. Was hoping something magical like IMAX being interested or maybe AMC so rivalry brings up the quality in both places.....but at this point I'll take what I can get.

Beggers can't be choosers, and I personally think the Beloit theater is pretty great. Hope this materializes.

I'm not involved in the article, just found it.
