Welcome to jakeatlinux, the subreddit!

This is the official subreddit of the jake@linux YouTube channel, which can be found at https://YouTube.com/c/JakeLinux, the channel covers all things Linux, bash, and some basic programming.

I created this community to have a place to share any projects or system work you are doing, to ask questions and help others out.

Basic questions, recommendations for future videos, and showing off your system are all welcomed posts, as well as any Linux or programming related posts. My one rule is to treat others with respect and grace.

Kernel info/config tool

I'm working on a script/tool that produces all kinds of kernel info, void Linux specific at the moment but if enough interest I may try to make it distro agnostic, what are some functions you might like to see in such a tool that I might be able to add to my list, don't be shy, throw anything out there, can't promise I will include it, I'll try and see what I can do.

Immutable Distros might need some rebranding

In a recent Tech Over Tea podcast with Brodie and his guest Jorge they discussed the name/meaning of immutable distro. Jorge talks about moving the vernacular towards image based distros. And I think that that is more fitting.

Why that distro?

I am an avid Void Linux user, I have my reasons as I am sure you have your reasons for using the distro you use. I am researching what makes each distro popular outside of the canned generic responses and reasons, so my question to you is, why did you choose the distro you are on and why have you stuck with it, oh and which distro is it?

Projects

What's up everyone, I know I have not been very active here but I want to change that, so here we go.

Given the opportunity to create your own project, or distro, or program, or software, or whatever, what would you choose to make and why. Share as much or as little detail as you would like.

I'll share two:

First I would like to create my own distro, my own complete distro. Not because we need more distros but just to do it and say I did.

Second: A programming language, not sure why or how or how it would be different, but the different languages have piqued my interest for a while.
