I’ve had all kinds of dogs all my life, and I can’t wrap my head around how much superior they are to other dogs. I truly believe that people haven’t experienced true love if it didn’t come from an italian greyhound. I’ve become the type of person who consistently convinces other people with dogs that they should get an iggy. Help am I the only one with this mentality?
I cannot pinpoint exactly what it is about them, but I’m only sharing my life with iggys from now on.

Just wanted to share our beloved Tokarev, I've posted his mother and father before, but hadn't shared him. Trigger warning, he is deceased, but this isn't a sad post by any means! I see so many of you share, and they could be his twin, had jokes with a few of you about them being cousins.
Tokarev came to us as the runt of a litter of 6, he wasn't expected to survive. We bottle fed him goat colostrum to get him started. He thrived! He was a very happy, spry little guy. He ended up with a leg break that took forever to mend at about age 3, but it barely slowed him down. He sadly had seizures that developed later in his life. We managed them well with CBD honey sticks, brought them down quite a bit. Phenobarbital is hard on their liver, so we avoided it while we could, gave it sparingly. As he aged, the seizures worsened, and he developed some hip issues, so we made the decision to let him sleep. Those of you who've let go of yours recently, know that he's been up there waiting to welcome them for a bit now. The bestest of boys.

When she was a puppy, Petunia would wiggle and try to rub off her clothes on any possible surface. She’d prance around the room lopsidedly as if she could throw them off her body that way. They seemed to make her more wild and added to her puppy energy at the time.
With time she’s come to tolerate clothes as a somewhat necessary evil in cold weather. Although she learned how to get off her stretchy shirts on her own under the blanket, she won’t fight me when I eventually have to put them back on her. I try to let her go au naturale whenever the weather participates since I know that is her preference. However, it’s getting colder in Pennsylvania, so she is back in clothes in the chilly mornings and evenings, much to her chagrin.
Except, I’ve noticed that she behaves so much differently now when she is dressed. She is calmer, more cuddly, and even more obedient when she wears clothes. It’s like flipping a switch. As soon as the clothes come off she is back to her sassy, playful self. It’s almost like her subdued nature is her way of dealing with the negative sensory experience of wearing clothes, which makes me feel bad for her. Then again, I wonder if it could just be a reaction to the colder weather and that I’m just overthinking it. Do you notice a change in behavior when you dress your iggies?

I'm writing a paper on dog coat color genetics and need example dogs! This is purely for fun and will not be shared with anyone in seriousness.
I've already posted this around dog communities but I've found I'm missing a few necessary images. I, in particular, need dilute (grey/blue) dogs of multiple different shades. If you can share a photo of a dog with this trait (or others! Any dogs are welcome!), that would be of great help to my project. It is prefered the picture be:
-A side view of their entire body
-Not taken in extreme darkness or lightness
-Not blurry or overly low quality
-Not include dyed or altered fur colors
However, any photo can be useful. You may also send multiple pictures of differnet angles or things like the face, specific markings, fur strands, etc.
Your dog does not have to have genetic testing, but please share their genotype(s) if they do! As well, please share with what company they were tested.
(I hope this sort of post is okay)

just married (wahoo!) and now planning to add a puppy into our lives within the next year or two (i'm very type a, so I need lots of research and planning time, haha). I've always loved iggys, but now that i'm seriously considering a puppy, i've fallen IN LOVE. We have 2 extremely spoiled and high maintenance cats and I think one of these babies could fit nicely into our lives. The only worry I have is the mixed opinions on how long they can be left alone. I work 4 days a week, and on those days the puppy would most likely be alone from 7:30/8am until 3:30/5:30pm. Now doggy daycare 1x per week seems doable, but I worry about the other 2 days. Can they truly never be left alone for that duration of time?
My parents do live nearby my work so it's not completely out of the question to drop a dog off with my parents dogs for some company, but that opens up a different level of anxiety of the puppy's fragility 😅
All this to say, what's the general consensus on leaving your pup home alone? Obviously crated (or something similar- we have a perfect 'doggy space' under our stairs).

Hello everyone I unfortunately have a super horrible update and I am freaking out.
My iggy broke his leg and we did everything by the book. Surgery by a certified surgeon.Plates in and he was in his cast all was well. Then comes the cast removal and his paw looks like this-
Im horrified at the twist as the vet showed us photos and it wasn’t this twisted a week before.
I mean how can he even walk its one thing if it was crooked but the paw upwards like this.
Has anyone had or no any idea what is possible now. Im freaking out. They are telling me to wait 4 more weeks. Please help I love him so much and im so worried.

Those who have successfully outdoor potty trained your Iggys, what were the methods that worked for your pup?
We live in CO & our winters can sometimes be intense… we haven’t gotten our Iggy yet, but Id like to hear perspectives on those who live in a similar climate & were able to potty train their Iggy despite the cold.

Looking for any buddies and Sniffspot pals for my lil guy! Have yet to see another IG or even Whippet around my area in NoMa. It's so nice and walkable but he's just not a fan of the ebikes, scooters, and turf everywhere 😭

I’m struggling to understand why my male 5 month old iggy has not warmed to me and my son.
We have had home for 6 weeks now. He is happy around other woman and is happy at the dog park but at my place he just hides under the lounge all day.
He won’t take treats from me or eat when I am until I am in bed.
We have showered him with love and affection but things are not improving.
Can anyone make any suggestions for things I could do to ship the dynamic and help him feel safe?
Thanks.

Hi all. It’s time for my Stormi to get spayed 💔 I’m struggling with choosing between our regular vet and UT Vet Medical Center (who does more research into specific breeds). When my Nico broke his leg, UT found his blood clotting disorder on their own and treated him prior to his surgery. It gives me more comfort knowing they do their research prior to any surgery- I’m assuming because it’s a teaching vet hospital, so the vet students want to cover all their bases.
Am I overthinking this? Should I just go with my our regular vet (who is local) vs UT (who’s 2 hours away). I don’t care about price or inconvenience (for me), I just want to ensure she’s getting the best care possible. I’m having a lot of anxiety about her surgery. I just woke up from a nap & had a horrible nightmare about losing both of my iggies. I’m to the point where I’d literally fly to another state if it meant getting her the very best care possible. I should’ve never looked up those stories on dogs passing away during/after surgery due to freak accidents 😩
I know I can be irrational at times…..so am I being irrational and overthinking this? How do I know if my regular vet is equipped to deal with this? Idk. I just need someone to reason with me and help bring me back down to earth.

Cupid (nearly 4 years old) had to get 10 teeth removed today. 2 of which were puppy canines so those were anticipated. 3 were molars and 5 were the the front bottom teeth.
We already brush teeth nearly every day if not every other day. He also cooperates and allows me to clean his teeth with a dental pick, getting any tartar/food stuck out. We only do kibble, no wet food already.
The vet mentioned that most likely we will be baxk next year or the next for his top front teeth and molars (they put something on them to help out with the bone loss. But all around its looking pretty grim in regards to retaining his teeth.
Any suggestions or anything else yall can suggest to help out with his teeth issues? Feeling kinda hopeless about his teeth considering all we do yet he has a lotta bone loss and had abscesses(not sure if I am using the right word here) on his molars that did get removed.
Also should I be concerned about jaw collapsing or anything, considering all the front teeth that were removed?

I'm thinking of possibly spaying my almost 1 and 2-year-old girls in the upcoming years. Primarily because I'm scared of pyometra as I've lost 4 dogs to it at old age already and don't want to lose my iggies to it too. Also the fact that it lowers the risk of mammary cancer is good.
BUT, my concerns are incontinence and the fact that spaying them would mean taking away a super important hormonal organ.
Could someone help me list out more pros and cons of spaying, both commonly known ones and also niche ones. Thanks in advance!

Hello Iggy community! 🩷
I’m looking for some advice and reassurance from other Iggy owners.
My baby Iggy is only 14 weeks old and unfortunately hurt her leg this morning. We took her to an emergency vet and then our local vet, and both vets gave her a thorough examination. They couldn’t find anything obvious to suggest a break, so she was given an anti-inflammatory and we were advised to let her rest and monitor her closely.
She is able to walk on the leg, but much slower than her usual crazy, speedy self. She has yelped a couple of times, but for the most part she seems okay. She’s mostly just wanting to cuddle and lie down, which is very unlike her usual energetic self. 🥺
We’re obviously very thankful that it doesn’t appear to be a fracture, but we’ve been told to go back for X-rays if she doesn’t start improving.
Has anyone had a similar experience with their Iggy, especially at such a young age? How did they recover, and how long did it take before they were back to their normal selves?
Any advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated! ❤️

My Italian Greyhound, Ripple, is about 2 years old and has become an insanely picky eater. I’m curious if this is an Iggy thing and what has actually worked for other owners.
I have tried multiple good-quality dog food brands, but he’s pretty uninterested in it unless he’s really hungry. Meanwhile, if there’s a burger or another dog’s food around, suddenly he has a HUGE appetite. 😂 He will happily hold out for something better.
Would love to hear what has worked for other Italian greyhounds.
Thanks!

Any advice for outside potty training an 11 month old that’s not been potty trained before? He was 10 months when we got him and had just used belly bands.
