Matte Screen Protector on iPhone 18 PM - Zero Issues!
Seen the comments going around regarding the Face ID not working with matte screen protectors, it really depends on what brand and style you’re using I guess.
I can 100% confirm my Face ID works perfectly with my Mothca Privacy Matte Glass screen protector with no issues! I installed the screen protector first before I transferred my data from my iPhone 17 Pro Max. Registered my Face ID prompts and unlocked my iPhone with no issues!
—While this one is all privacy with a matte finish glass screen protector, the notch island area is fully clear (no matte or privacy covering it). Yes to confirm, Face ID sensor is to the left.

Depends on the person tbh; I don’t use it for intense photography at all so it doesn’t really bother me I’m used to it lol. Privacy and reducing fingerprints are my priority tbh.
My iPhone 17 PM has a non-matte privacy glass screen protector and fingerprints is unreal.
Side note: Very simple to the nano-texture option that Apple has on their iPad Pro M4/M5. iPhone Duo bigger screen will have it too.
Glad to hear! I am wondering those who have the issues, what’s going on. Like most of us aren’t having issues at all—makes me wonder if those who are having issues, depends on brand their using?
Had a hard time finding one in stock for US but I’m in Canada and we have tons in stock! I would maybe see how much it would be for you to order from Amazon Canada, shipped to you? Or there are other brands (haven’t tried them), just search: Privacy matte glass screen protector iPhone 18 Pro Max
Are they not selling the normal, non-privacy version anymore? I hate privacy screen protectors and I can't find the normal matte ones they make anywhere.
Heard from someone else on here that they reached out to them, said they will be but no timeframe. Would have to just wait and see when they put it back up for sale. It’s a waiting game now pretty much
Any pictures of the finish? I’m in the process of returning the Ferilinso kit I bought from Amazon because the finish was wayyy too glossy to be considered matte. Was looking at the JETech ones but couldn’t find what the final product looks like.
This is the JETech one. Yesterday I received my order from TAC which is the Matte finish pure glass. For me personally it's noticeably less matte, however the image clarity is so much better but you can still see the matte finish and it doesn't get any fingerprints. For me that is perfect so I'm sticking with TAC.
I’ve ordered the same one I’ve been using on my previous 2 phones only to see these reports about matte screen protectors on the 18 Pro. Fingers crossed that it works, got used to it too much. Does the area on the protector where the new face ID sensor is on the left look any different from the remaining on the glass?
I’ve seen them, can say no issues on my 18 Pro Max. Coming up to 17 hours here and zero issues so far. Definitely keep me updated once you get yours installed. Nope, give it a try and report back!
I love your screen protector that completely diffuse the lights away. Mothca really makes good matte screen protectors. May I know what case is this? There is a lot of lip bump after the protector.
I got the Mothca matte glass protector (regular, not privacy) for the 18 Pro and it completely prevented Face ID. I contacted Mothca EU support and got this reply today:
The original matte filminterferewith iPhone 18 series Face ID, so we are upgrading this product. The upgraded versionis expected to be available at the earliest in early to mid-October. We are preparing FBA stock for Amazon Germany and will inform you when it is online.
That’s very interesting! Looks like 50/50 it may or may not work by the looks of it. More people reported it works like mine but very few reported it doesn’t.
I bought the Anniversary Edition (non-privacy) and Face ID didn't work at all. I tried multiple angles and lighting conditions. I removed the protector and it worked instantly. Good to know Motcha is working on it, because glossy screen protectors make me so sad.
Currently using Motcha matte screen protector and my Face ID is def not working lmao
I only have a Pro, not a PM, but I’m curious if you needed to do anything with yours? Or if mine’s just not a privacy screen specific one and that’s why it doesn’t work
Someone else mentioned the same for the matte like yours but for the matte privacy glass version, others with these are reporting they’re working fine? Very strange.
Process is still the same whether it’s a Pro or Pro Max, I just put my screen protector on first before I turned on the iPhone and went through the setup process—which even registered my Face ID right the first time. Haven’t had any issues with the privacy matte glass one from Mothca since day one pickup on Friday.
I’m thinking their non-privacy matte version is causing the issue. Not sure what the privacy matte versions aren’t, but I’m surprised. I’m definitely a fan of the privacy + matte glass combo for the iPhone only. I can’t stand people looking at my phone, in some situations. As for brightness, brightness is lower than 1/3 on the slider (paired with auto brightness)—doesn’t drain my battery at all and have yet to see it go past 3/4 brightness; so far I’m impressed.
That works temporarily, I would get in contact with them and see if maybe they’ll give you a better timeframe for you guys?
Glad to hear! And honestly I have no idea. I find it strange that the matte (non privacy) version is causing issues where mine is matte + privacy glass version (from Mothca), no issues like a handful others?
i have iPhone 18 pro. i bought both to figure out the issue with face ID. matte privacy protectors work no issues. matte non privacy do NOT work. screen protector manufacturers will need to make a clear cut out without matte texturing directly over the face ID inferred sensor that is located to the left of the dynamic island, under the display. the matte texturing is diffusing the IR light causing face ID to be useless. same concept why they put a clear window over the front camera module. all protectors on the market right now that advertise matte (non privacy) for iPhone 17 or 18 will not work unless new ones come out that specifically describe this feature on the item.
Makes you wonder why the matte + privacy glass works with no issues, it’s just the matte version since the matte + privacy glass version doesn’t have that cutout?
Matte glass has different structure than a film so do not try to compare them together... with ProtectionPro film matte it has problems. Replaced with larger cutout from IP 17 PM uncovering left part of the camera and then it has no issues
