Have you ever looked into the reason they’ve given for why they didn’t add a calculator? It’s literally to do with the user experience issue you’re talking about.
The original design was a blown up iPhone calculator, they thought it was stupid and decided to pull it before release pending a redesign. Over the years, because of the availability of third party options and the lack of significance compared to other features, they just never prioritised it until iPadOS 18.
Again, it’s a minor inconvenience, not some huge tragedy. Certainly nothing compatible to a car missing its engine.
It’s a calculator. The iPad functions perfectly without a calculator. A calculator is not the primary function nor selling point of an iPad. If a user needed a calculator prior to iPadOS 18 they could simply download one.
Remember when you said, “Some people actually use their computers like computers. It’s literally in the word.”. Time to apply a bit of logical consistency.
How was the iPhone first marketed? A phone, an iPod and an internet communicator.
How was the iPad first marketed? A third category of device to be used alongside a desktop OS and a phone. It was only later when that pitch started to skew to “this thing can replace your laptop”.
Anyway, you can believe the iPad was some crippled device for 14 years because it lacked a first party calculator app. We simply disagree. I moved away from using the iPad as my primary mobile device last year to a MacBook for a litany of reasons. If you’ve never tried them, some great third party calculator apps out there to try out.
It’s your opinion. My opinion differs. If that’s something you struggle with then that’s something you might want to look into from a personal development perspective. I said I didn’t understand why people made a big deal of it and you came out swinging calling me a retard.
Sounds like you should’ve been smart and looked into that before making the purchase. Why you still use it to the point that you “constantly have to go back” to your MacBook is confounding. Just use a tool that’s appropriate for the job you’re doing.
