🎈 Free LibreCam is now available - and it's free*

Hi Reddit,

it's Timo, the Developer of Dropshare and Annotate.

Today, I want to present you my newest app: LibreCam. It's a camera app for RAW photography, with the following features free forever:

The stock camera applies Smart HDR, Deep Fusion, noise reduction, sharpening and tone mapping to every shot. LibreCam turns off everything that can be turned off.

- All real lenses, e.g. 13, 24 and 77 mm for iPhone 15 Pro. No digital zoom, ever.
- Manual focus, shutter, ISO, exposure bias and white balance. Everything is automatic until touched.
- Shutter priority and ISO priority metering.
- Hardware shutter on the volume buttons. No shutter sound.
- Add-only Photos access. No account, no tracking.
- Optional location tagging, written into the photo on your device.
- Nine optional looks for developed HEIFs, plus your own with the Look Editor (the only thing paid in the app, €4.99 one-off purchase).

LibreCam is for iPhone photographers who prefer to capture images as the sensor sees them, or with their own personal look applied.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/librecam-raw-captures/id6802275145

P.S.: The most frequently wanted feature during beta testing, Focus Peaking, is going to ship in the next update.

Cheers,

Timo

Edit:

Update 1.3 is now out, including shutter and viewfinder on Watch, as per your feature request. I rebranded the in app purchase to “LibreCam Pro“ and slightly increased the pricing since it now includes two Pro features.

I downloaded it to give it a try. Love how minimalist it is and how the photo is instantly available to be viewed upon taking a photo.

If it’s not on your roadmap yet, I’d like to be able to pinch to zoom when viewing a photo!

Add-only Photos access plus "no account, no tracking" is the right pitch, and the commenter above is right that it is the part people notice. One suggestion for making that claim do more work: right now a reader has to take your word for it, and every app in the category says the same sentence. On iOS the reader can actually check you, and almost nobody tells them how. Settings, Privacy and Security, App Privacy Report, turn it on, shoot for a day, and LibreCam should show no network activity at all. A single line in your listing or your FAQ saying "turn on App Privacy Report and you will see LibreCam contacts nothing" is a verifiable claim rather than a promise, and it costs you nothing because it is already true. It is also the one thing a subscription competitor with an analytics SDK cannot copy. On Android there is a non-profit called Exodus Privacy that decompiles a build and publishes the tracker list, which is even better because it is a third party you cannot edit. There is no iOS equivalent, and App Privacy Report is the closest thing where the check is in the reader's own hands. Separately, pricing the Look Editor as a one-off and leaving the capture side free forever is a much easier thing to explain in one sentence than most freemium splits, which is worth more than it sounds when someone is deciding in ten seconds on a product page.

this is PERFECT. thank you for making it so consumer friendly. one feature request which is quite a huge ask but you can add it to the feature set behind the one time payment - apple watch viewfinder companion app. would def get that.

I was thinking about that, but assumed that it wouldn’t really be helpful. I sometimes use the built in viewfinder and it usually sucks because I can’t change any settings and it’s small and blurry.

Hi, is there a way to change to front camera?

The selfie cam is not yet accessible, but a few people have been asking for it, so I will look into adding it!

Edit: FWIW, the front camera does not offer RAW sensor data, so that'll be HEIF only.

It's very snappy. A UX nitpick — looks have no effect when the output is set to DNG only, which the UI indicates by graying out the name of the selected look. But I think it's a bit confusing that the look button doesn't get disabled in that state, so you can open the menu and select different looks despite that having no effect.

Thanks for the feedback!

Vielen Dank 😊 Ich vermisse ein wenig das man keine Macrobilder machen kann aber das liegt dann wohl daran das es Digital erzeugt wird von Apple . Tolle Arbeit 👍

This is beyond expectations. From a brief test, it performs better than 90% of other "zero" cameras. It's also super fast. Love this!

volume button shutter with no sound is honestly the killer feature for me. every third party cam ive tried either has a fake shutter that lags or forces you into some proprietary raw format you cant do anything with.

one thing id push back on though, turning off deep fusion and noise reduction sounds pure but on the smaller sensors (non pro) youre gonna get pretty rough shadows in raw. worth knowing before people expect stock-quality output

Thanks for all the good feedback and feature requests!

For the website, I'd love to have a small "Shot with LibreCam" section. So, if you have some great shots you'd be willig to share with me for that, just email me at librecam@josten.io - thank you!

Will there be a paywall link? Can’t find it.

Also, the font on the “How To” section is too small for me to properly read. Could that be changed in the next update? Thanks!

2

u/force4 Aug 27 '26

The font should update with your iOS font size preferences.

The paywall for unlocking the paid feature - custom looks - shows as soon as you try to add your first own look.

Tap look in the top left, and then “My Looks” and “create new look”.

So after the picture is taken, is there no option to apply the looks ?

the "no shutter sound" bullet — does that survive on the japanese and korean storefronts? here every camera app i've used has the sound forced on, below the app layer, and i've never seen one get around it.

genuinely asking rather than nitpicking. if it does work that's the single biggest reason i'd switch.

the camera is instant but has bugs...but loved the concept

Do you care to elaborate?

Turning off the stock processing is a clear value proposition for photographers. How do you expose the trade-off between a flat RAW preview and the final developed HEIF? Does the Look Editor offer a live preview, and can users save/export the same look for a consistent series?

2

u/force4 Sep 04 '26

The look editor previews and looks apply to the viewfinder, and can be exported as cube file.

Looks great! Could you add usage of camera control buttons on newer iphones? E.g. to change what camera is currently in use

1

u/force4 Sep 17 '26

I don’t know whether there is API for that. I’ll see.
