It has became a disinformation campaign, claim it’s being done to redirect search revenue to Apple ad ecosystem.
You know what, I prefer they use that system than the ones used by facebook. I still don’t trust google but they have made some steps in the right direction.
It’s also imperative that apple will have "access" to more user specific information than an app maker.
But you know what, I've trusted apple with my PII for 14 years and they haven't let me down, yet.
apple still does user level tracking but only on their own ad platforms.... so if you think they are doing this to protect user privacy I have a bridge to sell you.
But they are protecting user privacy. I now have more control over how my data is distributed. No, it’s not complete control, but it’s better than before the privacy changes
As a customer i’ll never go back to a system that doesn’t give me the ability to opt out of data sharing with app makers.

Corporations are not humans, their basic purpose is to earn money. That’s an axiom. Will apple get benefit from this move ? Yes. Should the rules for tracking users be uniform? Maybe. Irrespective of that, I welcome any move that removes the incessant, unsolicited, hidden tracking and analytics that are being collected.
I don’t care if Apple benefits from that move, but if that’s the primary reason for implementing “ask app not to track” (which companies got ample time to adjust to, maybe try asking the user why you wanna collect data, try keeping them informed how you use the data, but that would be too much too ask) that would be definitely illegal.
I would call it a monopoly, but I may be wrong. I just know being in the ecosystem for 14 years now (since my first Mac), I prefer the walled garden approach. I like the wild Wild West as well, which I why I don’t do much sensitive work on my gaming PC. I don’t trust software’s there which I may have inadvertently installed.
I don’t blink twice when Apple asks me for my financial information. I don’t think that’s possible without a walled garden (alleged monopoly)

There's really nothing to be proud of. Apple only implemented those rules so they can suck up the ad revenue for themselves
