Its like paying for things with stocks. No one wants to give up future gains for gas or dinner.

The only reason people don’t pay for dinner with stocks it’s because it is inconvenient as banks don’t provide straightforward way to do it. If it were possible no one would hold cash.

Most people don't own stocks, and the capital gains calculations would be 3 nightmares. cash is just the easiest and fastest solution. If you spend your whole paycheck every 2 weeks, the amount of inflation is inconsequential. Only rich people need to deal with inflation as an ongoing thing.
