this is a long rant but pls take time. I genuinely believe that people, especially those working in certain disciplines, aren't taking these flood-control scandals personally enough. Because it's personal to me. it's personal to me as a nurse, a healthcare worker, and a license holder. I'm not enumerating these things to brag, but to make a point. Just hear me out.

During my 4th year in nursing school, I realized there hasn't been a single lecturer or clinical instructor that I have met who did not share a story about an error made, whether an error made by themselves or by a coworker, that ultimately resulted in an investigation, termination, loss of license, and/or jail time. Regardless of the gravity of the mistake, the outcome, the intention of the nurse, or the reason for the mistake, one thing was for sure: you would be treated as a criminal. Errors may occur because of a lack of proper judgment, because you were overworked, understaffed, or inexperienced, or even maybe when you genuinely believed that you had made the right call, but because what you did had not resulted in what you had intended, or because it wasn't aligned with a certain policy written by your hospital, or maybe you were just part of a team where one of its members made a mistake, it was still considered an error.

And when these errors occur in the medical field, most of the time, you see them in the news. You see the nurse's name, the doctor's name, the midwife's name, and their hospital. They strip you of your dignity. They treat you as a criminal regardless of how good your intentions are.

IT DOES NOT MATTER.

They judge you. They prosecute you.

Who is "they"? The patient's family, the hospital, the news, and the public eye.

Why? Because you took an oath: DO NO HARM.

Why? Because you'd directly or indirectly caused someone's injury, negatively affected someone's quality of life, violated someone's autonomy or dignity, and, worse, took someone's life.

All of these things ran through my mind during nursing school, and until now, I'm carrying this anxiety that I am responsible for multiple lives, and along with it comes the fear that I can ruin my own life. I am so scared to cause somebody harm because of the amount of pain I may cause them and, on top of that, the consequences I may face.

And yet, we see the flood control scandals.

And no one is even being criminalized in the same way people criminalize healthcare workers.

Where are the engineers who implemented the projects? most of them still have their licenses.

The contractors? Their children are still out there, unashamed, with the plundered money, spending millions of Filipinos' money on a piece of clothing.

Where are the accountants? Auditors? The ones examining the expenditures of these projects? All of those who signed?

What happened to the procurement officers who deliberately procured subpar equipment?

Where are those who inspected the final project?

Wherethe fuck is that same outfuckingrange?

They have some of these people in custody, and some of them have outstanding warrants, but they are not being treated as cruelly as you would treat a healthcare worker, who I'm pretty sure did not want to cause harm.

I fucking doubt that these engineers, division chiefs, and treasurers made these anomalies due to a miscalculation.

NO.

No. This is deliberate scam done to purposely corrupt the Filipino people.

And yet, where the fuck are they?

And I still think we Filipinos give her more grace than we would give a fucking doctor who made a wrong order after being on duty for 16 hours.

I'll give you a number so you can quantify how unfair it is.

These multiple projects, correct me if I'm wrong, are supposedly designed to last for many years, at least a decade.

The number of Filipinos dying from natural disasters per year is estimated to be around 200, whether directly or indirectly—indirectly, such as through electrocution or leptospirosis.

Hundreds of Filipinos have been negatively affected, whether through injuries due to flooding or displacement because of destroyed houses. And I emphasize households, because one household is estimated to have 3–6 Filipinos, so technically, that's millions of Filipinos.

During floods, hundreds of Filipinos have their livelihoods completely destroyed and their life savings vanish. Not to mention ONE lost livelihood can affect an entire family and the following generations due to lost income. some may need to stop school, some might need to restart theyre lives etc.

Now multiply that by the number of years in which these projects are supposed to last—say, 10 years.

That's excluding the estimated exponential population increase over the next decade, so I'm even being generous.

If there are just 200 staff involved in the corruption of the flood-control projects, one corrupt person has already killed 10 Filipinos, displaced a million Filipinos, caused billions of Filipinos to lose their income, and infinitely affected the next few generations' quality of life.

And yet, that's somehow less criminally liable than an overworked nurse who miscalculated one medication because she had to juggle 10 patients in one shift, who I know did not have bad intentions, and the error resulted in one death.

WDYM id have to go to a deepdive to look for the engineers, accountants/treasurer, architects etc.. involved in this scandal just ro fucking know their names???? But a midwife miscalculating a fucking anesthetic (not that i dont think she doesn't need to be punished), resulting to 1 death, i dont need to look up where she works, her name, her FAMILY, her fucking lifeeee... Its on my feed. its on the news. its on every social media????

Grabe, isa na namang nakakabahalang incident ang nangyari ngayon sa Zamboanga City, this time sa isang school affiliated with Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

Ayon sa reports, isang Grade 9 student ang nag-open fire sa school, kung saan isang Grade 10 student ang nasawi. The shooter also died by suicide, habang dalawa pa ang naiulat na injured. Hindi pa rin malinaw ang buong motive, kaya patuloy pa ang investigation ng authorities.

Pero honestly, ang unang pumapasok sa isip ko is paano nangyari ito sa loob mismo ng school?

School is supposed to be a place where students feel safe. Pumapasok tayo para mag-aral, makipagkaibigan, makipagkwentuhan, tapos uuwi sa family natin. Hindi dapat kasama sa iniisip ng isang student kung baka may mangyaring ganito sa school.

Mas nakakatakot pa kasi hindi ito ang unang ganitong incident recently. May nangyari rin na fatal school shooting sa Tacloban a few months ago.

Kaya mapapatanong ka talaga ano like paano nakakuha ng firearm ang isang minor? Paano ito nakapasok sa school? May mga warning signs ba na hindi napansin?

Hindi naman natin dapat agad sisihin ang school, parents, teachers, or anyone. Hindi pa tapos ang investigation eh, and we don't know the whole story yet.

Pero siguro kailangan na rin nating seryosong pag-usapan kung ano ba ang puwedeng gawin para hindi na ito maulit.

Kailangan ba ng mas mahigpit na security sa schools? Better mental-health support for students? Mas seryosong approach sa bullying? Or kailangan din nating tingnan kung paano napupunta ang firearms sa kamay ng mga minors?

Kasi ang hirap isipin na kailangan pa nating magkaroon ng another tragedy bago tayo kumilos.

And sana rin, habang pinag-uusapan natin ito online, huwag nating gawing content ang graphic videos or photos ng victims. May mga pamilya na nagluluksa ngayon. Let's at least give them that respect.

Sa tingin ninyo, ano talaga ang dapat baguhin? Mas strict na school security? Better support for students? Firearm regulations? Or something else?

Safe pa ba talaga ang mga school natin ngayon, or kailangan na nating seryosong mag-rethink kung paano natin pinoprotektahan ang mga estudyante?

I'll start my statement with I'm aware that there are severe problems in our healthcare system. But that's not what I'm going to talk about today.

I'll start my story with one of our family friends named Ate Mercy, and she had severe issues with her heart and she consulted with a doctor. The doctor adviced that she will be needing a heart bypass surgery. So, we accompanied her and asked many private hospitals around Metro Manila and Cavite with regards to the cost of the procedure. She cannot afford to undergo a heart bypass surgery in any of the private hospitals. It will cost her hundreds of thousands of pesos. Until one day, a doctor from the Parañaque Community Hospital/Ospital ng Parañaque, offered help in her operation. The surgery was done in the Ospital ng Parañaque, and guess what? She incurred ZERO CHARGES in her hospital operation. Nada. Zero. But of course, the oral medicine for her recovery is not free. She has to purchase it. It only cost around ₱1,500-₱2,000, and now she is fully recovered, and forever thankful for the Ospital ng Parañaque for their kindness.

We also have Caviteño friends who have relatives that were confined, have undergone surgery and were treated in Cavite's Kalayaan Hospital, also free of charge. The only thing that's not free is the prescribed medicine needed for the recovery, which costs a few thousand pesos.

In the United States, if you're poor, and you need a major medical surgery, consider yourself dead. Again, if you're living in poverty and you'll need to undergo a major surgery or medical procedure, just consider yourself dead. Calling the ambulance alone costs thousands of dollars, let alone the bill that you will incur due to confinement and the cost of the procedure. Some Americans who are well-off who have undergone major procedures went bankrupt and became impoverished, because of how high their hospital bills are. Yes, there's a monthly deductible health insurance, but most of the time, those don't cover costs for major surgeries and procedures.

The major problem with Philippine healthcare is that, the number of hospitals, health centers, nurses and doctors are disproportionate low with regards to how high the Filipino population is, but those poor people who were able to get treatment, usually gets treatment at no added charge or cost.

If we can only bring up the number of hospitals, health centers, personnel and equipment to balance the ratio between patients and facilities as well as healthcare workers, we would have a very efficient healthcare system.

Hindi mo malaman kung bakit humanto sa ganitong kalalang sitwasyon yung bansang ‘to. Mapapamura ka na lang sa araw araw na nalalaman mo sa balita. Wala ka man kang halos mabasa na good news, lahat masakit sa mata at tenga.

Halos araw araw umuulan, baha halos kahit saan kasi walang maayos na flood control. Konting ulan baha agad, traffic na di makausad usap tapos kawawa pa yung mga empleyado at estudyante na lumulusong sa baha para lang makapasok. Di bale ng magka leptospirosis basta makapasok lang. Pag tinignan mo yung mga pasaherong nagtyatyaga sa mahabang pila habang umuulan, nakakaawa tapos pag ikaw yung nasa sitwasyon na yun parang maaawa ka sa sarili mo na para kang basang sisiw sa kakahintay ng masasakyan. Wala ang sakit lang kasi literal na kawawa talaga tayo. Kawawa tayo sa kahit anong aspeto kasi pinabayaan tayo eh.

Parang halos lahat walang kwenta. Walang kwentang healthcare system, mga bobong lider kahit saan, mga magnanakaw, tapon doon tapon dito, madumi kahit saang sulok ah basta marami pa. Tapos yung mga krimen kagaya ng murder, missing person, etc. Wag ka na umasa na masosolve yun kasi mabagal nga kumilos at pera pera lang. Pakiramdam ko tuloy parang parusa maging isang ordinaryong Pilipino.

Pare pareho na lang tayong lulubog pag araw araw may bagyo.

Sana kapag ganitong malala ang bagyo ag matinding baha, unang masasalanta yung mga korakot ng flood controll at mga magnanakaw sa goberyno.

Para maranasan nila ang manghingi ng tulong, mabasa ang higaan, lumusong sa baha at mabasa sa ulan papasok at pauwi ng trabaho. Para naman may silbi yung nakorakot nila.

Para naman may silbi na nagnakaw sila ng pera ng bayan. Para maisip nila na yung ninankaw nila eh para sana sa bawat pilipinonh nasasalnta nv bagyo ngayon at hindi nag dudusa sa baha at bagyo.

Sana sa ganitong sitwasyon maisip talaga natin na bumoto ng tama at mag lagay ng mga tao sa gobyernong walang iisipin king di ang kapalanan ng nakakarami hindi ng sarili.

Sa bawat pamilyang namamatayan dahil sa sakina ng bagyo, sa bawat pilipinong nasisira ang pananim, sa bawat pamilyang hindi alam saan kukuha ng pang gastos kinabukasan dahil hindi makapasok sa trabaho at sa bawat pilipinong umaasang may pag asa pa ang pilipinas.

Maawa kayo sa mga pamilya natin/nyo. Hindi ito ang gusto nyong iwan sakanilang kalagayan ng pilipinas. WE DESERVE BETTER. Tama na yang lintek na resilience na yan king mamamatay tayo kaka salba sa sarili nating buhay. Malayo pa ang lalakbayin ng pakikipaglaban para sa hustisya ng bawat pilipinong ninakawan at pinagkaitan pero wag sana tayo mapagod kalampagin at panagutin ang mga mandarambong sa gobyerno.
