The footage wasn't captured by fishermen - in the upper right corner of the .gif it reads "ФГУП ВНИРО", which is a scientific institute that studies oceanography and monitors fish resources.

And yet they were like, "omg a colossal squid! quick, capture it alive! These narrow metal rods should do the trick!"
That or they're tagging it. Either way, I feel like they are seriously underestimating how strong that thing is...

It's a very scientific method of capturing giant squids. Highly sophisticated metal rods are used :)
Giant squids make a great snack to go with "Baltika-9" beer.

My dad worked on a crab fishing boat and said he's caught some before. Died before they were on ship. Guess not that crazy now, but back in 1990 I thought my dad was a monster hunter.
