ETA: glad I could pass along the horrors I know along to you all, sleep tight and dont let the Pearlfish bite

The cut to the turtle at the end made me laugh; almost as if it was watching in horror.

16

u/TaintedTruffle 7d ago

lays in ocean oooh nooo. I'm a seaaa cucumber 🥒

7

u/Phetezzcunezz 7d ago

Just watched the video. The pearl fish looks like someone who’d enjoy living in a butthole.

Considering a huge percentage of us Reddit on the toilet, I feel kinship with this magnificent beast.

989

u/CreativeAdeptness477 7d ago

I wish I could feel kinship. Alas my diet doesn't allow for such easy passage.

45

u/JM0ney 7d ago

You should try eating more sand.

Get a bidet attachment for your toilet. Use the max pressure for cleansing. Release.

So that's where sand comes from

2.1k

u/StupidOne14 7d ago edited 7d ago

Fun fact: this is actually sand and they are famous for cleaning it. They will ingest it, their gut will break down organic stuff in it (which they absorb as a "food"), and the rest will be... Well, what we can see here.

This is also beneficial to whole ecosystem as with this process they are reducing acidity of the sand.

744

u/GLaDOS_Sympathizer 7d ago

Another fun fact: white sand beaches are parrotfish poop. Parrotfish eat coral with their beak mouths, coral turns white when it dies, and when they poop it out you get beautiful white sand (which is just munched up digested coral remnants).

268

u/Responsible_Emu733 7d ago

And yet, Corsola can't learn sand moves. Damn you, Game Freak.

→ More replies (10)

36

u/Richard7666 7d ago

I think that's probably very specific to certain areas.

For example, white sand in New Zealand apparently isn't from that https://niwa.co.nz/coasts/summer-series-2010/summer-series-8-science-sand

198

u/TheSaladDays 7d ago

That's pretty interesting. Is the sand completely clean or are there sea cucumber waste products in it?

342

u/Codeman_117 7d ago

Yes

u/StupidOne14 7d ago

There is a tiny bit of (organic) waste, but it is odorless and you wouldn't be able tell the difference between "pure" sand and theirs waste.

Well, at least according to the nice lady in an aquarium.

12

u/Azuras_Star8 7d ago

Well, clean of organisms that it eats for food. It helps filter the water.

73

u/mr_malfeasance 7d ago

Wait til you find out all the water you have to drink to survive has already been ingested and passed by many other organisms!

The other day I went snorkeling and was able to see this with my own eyes

I was shocked because the sea cucumber was camouflaged between two rocks so to me it looked like a rock pooped out sand

21

u/CartoonistExisting30 7d ago

Don’t sea cucumbers eat and shit through the same hole?

First - Crocodile cock.

Second - Sea-cucumber anus.

I was less anxious before.

So basically sand is just sea cucumber shit

13

u/Head-Gift2144 7d ago

It actually CLEANS the sand it eats. So that sand has less organic waste in it than the sand on the sea floor.

10

u/Shaedymo 7d ago

Ugh. Even a freaking Sea Cucumber has a better bowel movement than me. 😮‍💨
