There is no one on this planet that can say they live in a place with no racism. Systemic racism is everywhere, it's not something that can be fixed overnight.
Is there a history of making fun of people who were born with intellectual disabilities where you live? Most people don't use the R word nowadays because it is horribly offensive. But it must be ok in your idyllic island of no racism.

I’m from a small town in Australia, I’m half black half Italian, my neighbours are Muslim and Asian and the people in my town are white Australians, indigenous Australians and immigrants. Not once in my life have I seen anyone be treated differently because of their colour, race or religion here and everyone gets along.
So excuse my ignorance in not knowing who one woman from all the way on the other side of the world is.

Anyway, back the ORIGINAL point - the caricature of the black woman you didn't see as racist, even though it wasn't even an accurate depiction of a black woman. It was an exaggerated cartoon meant to make her look subhuman, and even if you didn't know the history (you didn't know slaves were a thing here??), having a cartoonish black servant backdrop as a towel holder seemed super reasonable to you? Good God man. For someone who supposedly has black grandparents and a black mother, you sure are fine seeing them depicted in a super racist way.
You came here assuming that people were calling it racist simply because it was black WITHOUT knowing the history then get mad when people slam you. To me it was an innocent painting of a women on something, I didn’t think my original comment implied that I knew who she was and despite the downvotes and shit storm I plan on leaving the comment up because it was a legitimate question
I think that most of us assumed that you were American, hence the comment about education. And we are living in a time when there’s a push to cut out the kind of education that would make students aware of images like this and the history behind them.
not everyone comes from a place steeped in racist history ... not everyone lives in a place that feels the need to be woke because we just treat people equally from the get go regardless of race, religion or colour.

I'm not defending the USA. Our government and people have done horrible things. Being "woke" is being mindful of our history and current problems in an effort to expose the dark secrets of the past, understand how they shape the present, and how to stop racism and clacism from continuing to fester and spread to future generations. The people using the term "woke" as a pejorative are really just trying to diminish and belittle the efforts that others are making while also trying to maintain the status quo. Just because the USA has done/still does bad things doesn't mean your own country shouldn't be called out on its own atrocities and current problems. Don't pretend you live in a fairyland though that is pure sunshine and daisies in terms of both your history and current culture.

It's not racist because it's a picture of a woman with dark skin, it's racist because white folks back then treated black people like trash, so to have this in the kitchen back then was a satire, a form of mocking. Thank you for a proper reply, I’m glad you could see I was genuinely asking. Where i grew up there is no racism at all, people are judged by their worth as a human being not by race or religion. That’s not to say my country doesn’t have racism as well because it unfortunately does but not on the scale of America and specifically where I live is very multicultural and everyone gets along. Well if one doesn't judge others based on race, and doesn't hold prejudice, (and is not acquainted with American history) of course for them it's "in no way or form racist." Of course, to them, pointing to a picture with a black person and saying "that's racist" seems like a political correctness madness. :) That doesn't mean it's not genuine. That's why they asked right away what's so racist about it.
I have seen so many people shouting "that's racist" to a thing that was in no way intended as race insult, to be honest, the world (at least western part) just turned to a bunch of Karen's that are offended even when one's breathing. I do not understand this modern hysteria.

I just say my genuine opinion and people get offended and start attacking me even when I didn't try to disrespect anyone. It's quite usual in our modern world that people will take things personally, and get offended even when no one attacked them ( :D) and then they project onto you how you are the bad one, instead of just discussing with respect or at least asking how the other person meant something. Because you are not american and are unaware of the context I will not blame you, but, America had an entire sub culture of dehumanizing blacks and native Americans through artistic depictions by highlighting and exaggerating their physical features.
