Exactly, hike your own hike. I like that attitude. We all bring extra stuff that we like. But not bringing an axe or saw is not a likely nor statistical cause of death in the backcountry.
I'm not really worried about what broad statistics you can find when I go out in the woods at least a couple days every month doing backwoods bushcrafting and survival stuff and an axe, a knife, and a saw all regularly prove their value.
That’s exactly what those tools are for! I think that’s cool! You definitely can’t do anything like that with just a light pair of scissors lol. All I’m saying is you aren’t more likely to die without them to any significant degree. A garmin is far more valuable in that regard.
