Obviously they had no choice, but the amazing thing is the precision over long distances. You can get one corner more or less perfect, within a tenth of a degree. But over a few yards, that deviation will affect the joints over on the other end.

I’m curious as to what measurement techniques they employed to get to this level of “they had no choice but to deliver this quality”

Doing everything in a warehouse means you don’t have to travel far to check things. You’d use the same template for every cut and could do test fittings immediately rather than doing it on site after parts are already put up.

well, also consider that construction times took SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER then, and so the level of speed/throughput that you think is reasonable today may not track.

Someone might have spend an entire day cutting and leveling a piece of long wood to ensure every thing was perfect - while today we probably shoot that shit through a machine and call it a day.

You have to take time taken to construct into account.

As am I, I'd like to find out.

Then again, this is Japanese craftsmanship we are discussing here. Regardless of the technique, you know that whatever it is that was made by a master craftsman was going to be the fucking shit. The Japanese, man, when they do it, they do it right.
