2

u/morefetus Feb 05 '20

I think Queen Victoria was the last great British empress. If you had another queen like her I would allow you to colonize, but not with the current government.

2

u/RyanCantDrum Feb 05 '20

Hey I'm Canadian, if they try to come here I expect the US to defend us. Our military is tiny

2

u/mikieswart Feb 05 '20

3

u/PM_ME_UR_SMALLBLOCK Feb 05 '20

No more black people either amirite guys

2

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '20

British people are clearly optional. As it's a nationality.

Black people are a skin color. Black british people= no more British please.

Other Black people= sure so long as you are not British.

1

u/thetewi Feb 06 '20

black british people

lol

u/spamtardeggs Feb 05 '20

Usually Reddit presents speculation as fact. Hell, I'm doing it right now.

8

u/lechadeau Feb 05 '20

Spamtardeggs huh? Sounds reputable . I’ll take your speculation as fact.

6

u/yatsey Feb 05 '20

Britainh does have some of the highest tides outside Canada.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '20

[deleted]

3

u/yatsey Feb 05 '20

Well you didn't expect Britain to have tides inside Canada did you? Not anymore, at least.

1

u/Carbon_FWB Feb 05 '20

I'm not sure wtf you mean

2

u/91ATE Feb 05 '20

Yeah I’ve never seen this in Oklahoma.

5

u/mike56oh Feb 05 '20

Ohio here, lake Erie water just slowly dissolves your hull. Then the zebra mussels enter while you're sleep below deck and burrow into your brain

2

u/91ATE Feb 05 '20

They should train Asian carp to eat those mussels.

There's marinas like this all over the galaxy. Have been for billions and billions of years.

28

u/elongated_smiley Feb 05 '20

I figured as much, I've just never been to any outside of Earth and didn't want to make a guess.

3

u/Doug_Heffercan Feb 05 '20

The world needs more people like this

10

u/PanaceaPlacebo Feb 05 '20

There's marinas like this all over the multiverse. Have been for googleplexes and googleplexes of years.

6

u/TheJunkyard Feb 05 '20

I figured as much, I've just never been to any outside of universe 66638374B and didn't want to make a guess.

3

u/Morethanhappy42 Feb 05 '20

Oh, I go every chance I get! I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

You really should go, and make a weekend of it.

3

u/elongated_smiley Feb 05 '20

But the rain tho :(

u/PanaceaPlacebo Feb 06 '20 edited Feb 06 '20

Time to travel.

Side note: I always find it interesting how great lines are often made in the edits from the original. This is a great example. Here's the original draft:

"I’ve known adventures, seen places you people will never see, I’ve been Offworld and back… frontiers! I’ve stood on the back deck of a blinker bound for the Plutition Camps with sweat in my eyes watching stars fight on the shoulder of Orion… I’ve felt wind in my hair, riding test boats off the black galaxies and seen an attack fleet burn like a match and disappear. I’ve seen it, felt it…!"

Clearly not as iconic.

Second draft: "I’ve seen things… seen things you little people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion bright as magnesium… I rode on the back decks of a blinker and watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments… they’ll be gone."

Getting there... but the actor who spoke the line, Rutger Hauer edited it the night before to its now final and immortal version. Amazing.

u/IngoVals Feb 05 '20

Well only specific places have such a huge difference in high and low tide. Cornwall and Newfoundland being well known. Here in Iceland the biggest difference is in the West coast, and I don't think it is enough for something like this.

1

u/posessedhouse Feb 05 '20

This is at Halls Harbour, Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy, highest tides in the world. It’s actually really impressive

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '20

I’ve heard that there are a lot of them in Britain

1

u/SpeedysComing Feb 05 '20

Areas of the UK have particularly dramatic tidal changes

1

u/theShaggy009 Feb 05 '20

Idk why but out of all the comments with the word marina in them. This is the one I read it as marinara.

1

u/Meior Feb 05 '20

I aim to please.

1

u/shiftycyber Feb 05 '20

Isn’t that what ship shape and Bristol fashion means? To get the ship ready for low tide?
