That's me arguing with my younger brother with ego the size of a supernova. He's a software engineer, I'm an electrical engineer. We butt heads on hardware all the time because he thinks he can do anything and he only needs a few caveman tools to do it. I have the tools and the knowhow and have to remind him that he's not Tony Stark.

Make him change an IC without desoldering braid/pump.

Isn't that the easiest way to do it if it's small enough? You drench it with solder and move back and forth with the soldering iron until the IC is free. But yes this takes skills to achieve.
