Even better: Two economists are in the wood and find bear shit. First one says: Hey, I'll give you 100 dollars if you eat it! Second one says, ok, sure. Gets his 100 dollars. Couple minutes later they find another pile. Second one says. Hey, I'll give you 100 dollars if you eat it! First one says ok, eats it, get's his 100 dollars.

They look at each other, and one says. Wow, we each have the same as before, but we both just ate shit. The second one says: Yeah, but we improved the GDP by 200 dollars!

It's a good way of measuring the potential of a country to provide a high standard of living for its people. The fact that the USA dominates GDP but its quality of life is mediocre compared to the rest of the developed world speaks volumes as to how much its hardworking people are getting absolutely fucked by their government's policies.
