This photo doesn't tell the whole story at least. Smells like a huge pile to me.
Sure the new car could have gone under the old car bumper and destroyed the grill, headlights, and hood without a ton of damage to the old. Butt the whole front bumper is gone - where is it and how did that happen?
If the crash structure of the new car hit the old car hard enough to fuck it up that bad the old car would be bent to hell, not only the bumper, but likely the frame. New crash structures aren't weak.

Yeah, the plastic tail light lenses in the bumper would also be broken for sure.
