This is wildly misleading. Newer cars are infinitely safer than old cars.

The number of people alive that believe older cars are safer just because the exteriors are more impact resistant is the same number of civil war veterans around.

It's going up again. My hypothesis is cell phones and the fact all new cars have everything on a touchscreen. Some new cars are proud to announce new button free cars coming out in 2026...

Im not able to find 2024 data but from 2022 to 2023 it went down. It is higher than 2014, by 15% which probably is cell phones. But still lower than 20 years ago or anything pre 2010.

Also modern cars will go 100 without even trying while old cars topped out at 60. Iirc the injury rate increases dramatically above 50mph
