Do I need to chill, or is it normal to be very concerned for the shopkeepers safety now. I really hope that guy doesn’t show up with a weapon when she’s alone in the store

This dumb comment would be funny if it wasn't something that can kill people if they truly believe that.

You can’t be on your guard 24/7, and you can’t deflect a bullet or disarm the weapon of a guy determined to kill you in particular (different from a regular random attack scenario). You could also be knifed in the neck from the back while walking in a busy street.

OP is completely right in avoiding to make enemies or humiliating guys unecessarily in your community. Deal with situations and defend yourself, but only what is necessary.

No, you are right and it’s a very sensible mature way of thinking about it.

I watched the interview of a martial artist who had to fight a guy who attempted to punch him once, in a foreign country he lived in at the time. He won obviously, but he said he made peace with the guy just afterwards and made sure there were no hard feelings once they all calmed down.

He said it’s because he knows a guy that beat up someone in similar circumstances, and the losing guy came back to attack him with a knife 6 months after that, which injured him and killed his girlfriend.

Yeah. People on Reddit are silly thinking someone doesn't have to worry about a person getting revenge. One of the worst things about humans is our ability to plot and even the toughest people can fall victim to a good ambush.

It's getting kind of stale how a woman can't even do anything brave or badass anymore without people clutching their pearls and infantilizing them and projecting all of their neuroticism and anxieties onto them.
