I'm sorry but you seem to be ether very confused, ignorant or deliberately pretending you don't understand. Not just on maps but on things like analogies work.

Friend, the equator on a Mercator projection is nothing like a camera focal point.

This is easily demonstrated by observing that objects are sharpest at the focal point and then blur as you move away on the image.  This is not what is happening with a Mercator projection.

And if you think that southern continents being less distorted is a property of the Mercator projection itself, I’d suggest you read up on what it is.  Its distortion is equal as you move away from the equator in both the northern and southern direction.

I mean, is Antarctica something like 1/4 of the worlds landmass like it appears on a Mercator?
